Here goes... though undoubtedly you'll get plenty of advise from far more expert players. 1) I would advise to go for Torian (faster population growth which helps a lot early on) or Korath (military boost and those awesome spore ships) I usually spend some points on economy and research. 2) Homeworld building order: a simple plan is to rush-build 2 factories, then either: - go for all economy on your homeworld while using other planets for research - build some rese

Finally had time to check in and look at the scores, very nice (especially Team D of course, great to see the team tactics worked) :)
Very good review and all the praise is 100% justified! Can't wait to get my hands on that next build of TA... And it's indeed great that they manage to keep so unbiased (in the sense of not being influenced by advertising).
First of all I tend to put quite some focus on Technology + buy quite a few techs to keep up or stay ahead in the tech race. Secondly, once the game is settling a bit, it's time to stir up some wars while building influence starbases in order to flip planets of the warring AI's. I find the snowball effect of influence to be working quite efficiently compared to the usual invasion tactics.
Against the dread lords it's usually best to build all-offensive ships: your defenses won't help a lot anyway against their massive firepower + all-offense increases the chances of you destroying a DL ship. If you have a choice between different kinds of weapons, choose the one for which the DL ships don't have any defenses (though I seem to remember you had no choice in that campaign level)
Apart from trading or treaties (which by the way is excellent advise): 1) build a spin-control center: this boosts the military score of that planet by a factor 5. Very few civilizations will be willing to go to war with you if your total military score is much higher than theirs. 2) look for AI's that don't have a good relation with each other and pay one of them to attack the other. Usually when there are 2 or 3 AI's close to me in terms of military power, I get them to fight each othe

I think these mega events are a bit too much, for example it would be more reasonable to: - limit the number of planets the Jagged Knife takes from each race - limit the planet quality of the planets they take (to avoid them taking over some capitals) Same thing with the Vegans or some other minor AI popping up with a full tech tree...
You are right! In that case it's not only the display of the research tree that has the bug, but also the actual research path itself.

I have tested this on several planets, every time with the same result. Let me know if you need any savegames or screenshots; the error should be easy to recreate.

Another new joiner to the Kzinti empire, but then again you already knew that KzintiPatriarch I hope your storyline will urge people to frequent the forum often, it's nice to have some conversations or discussions going on between empire members rather than only posting Metaverse games. Though that's of course also important if we want to grab ourselves some orca steak any time soon
I may be a bit early but I want to be removed for the list for round 5, before I forget to mention it. A pity since the league seems to be rolling more smoothly every round... Reason: in December I'll be working like hell for half of the month at the other side of the globe (China) so I fear I wouldn't be able to participate. Already looking forward to Round 6 though Edit: just to avoid an

It's true that AI races trade a lot of techs early on, that's why they will often be ahead of you in the tech race early in the game. However like you said already you can use tech trading to your advantage as well - in fact selling less crucial techs will enable you to expand much faster while not giving too much away to AI's - and it can be used to improve relations with AI's. I nearly always play with tech trading on, all in all I like this more than disabling it.
you will logically try a harder one to boost your score? Actually playing at a higher level is a very small benefit to your score, not sure exactly what it is though. I think playing at a higher level is probably more of an ego thing...
Probably it just worked for me because it pushed me to do a bit better/faster than usual (moved up from Normal to Challenging and Painful difficulty, resulting in some 10-20% higher scores) as I don't ha
... I'd just as soon leave the level someone plays at up to the person. I think it would become noticable if someone were to intenionally play beneath their level and it could be dealt with at the time.
Seem to have overlooked this post for 2 days... I would agree to leave the difficulty level to everyone's discretion. After all when you notice you're wiping the galaxy with the AI on a certain level, you will logically try a harder one to boost your score?
Also, I NEVER use anything other than the 'mini soldiers' option when invading planets: 30-70% boost on advantage w/hardly any damage done to the planet and it's buildings/tiles. It seems like the best way to go, BUT I still have yet to try the other methods - seriously... I've ONLY used the 'mini soldiers' thus far... am I missing out on some serious arse kicking with the other invasion options???
Well, similarly to most posts above, I choose between mini soldiers a
Quick question with regards to the results: what is the difference between the Influence victory for some players and Cultural conquest (none I suppose)?

Yes, a tech victory in 2 years is fast indeed! Too bad the metaverse score doesn't reflect that...
... 2) the more rules we have, the more work there is for neilo and FireBender. ...
If that would be the only issue keeping you from adding some new bonuses, it's enough to build a simple excel sheet in half an hour where you can just paste the submissions and it does all the calculations? But I tend to agree that too many rules make the league too complicated, in particular for new joiners. And it gets harder for each team to maximize its performance under m
