Well, to do that you would need a class 32 planet and several economic resources to mine, so as I've said before, doing well in this game relies too much on pure luck.

I'm also confused about where mp and tp fit into all of this. For example, on the homeworld screen, when I select "Civilization Capital", it says Industry: 24 mp, Research: 24 tp. But what does this mean and where do these values fit in with respect to the "Military", "Social", and "Research" values I mentioned above? Thanks for any help provided. Yeah, it's confusing to me as well, but I can explain in my own way how I think it works, but
If you want more resources in the galaxy go with abundant anomalies. I guess DA must have cut down on resources as well. I have to admit that everything that I've heard about DA doesn't make me want to be in any kind of rush to play it. I'll give it a try when I finish my current game, but at this point I may as well wait for v1.6. So far I only play on Huge maps with everything set to abundant, scattered stars, normal tech rate and random minor rac
Yeah, but that's assuming you get *any* economic resources. I usually end up with tech resources or military. Actually out of all my games so far (about 7), I've only seen one economic resource. It needs to be tweaked, just my opinion. Which carries next to no weight. Like the value of my life. I should just be killed.
This game is very very stingy economically, i have described before the economy in galciv as being tighter than microsofts copywright policy! As such by the end of most of my games, at least 80% of my worlds will be dedicated to economy only.... thats how insanely tight assed this game is economically!!!! You ain't kid'n. Even with Altarians, who have a 30% economic bonus, with another 30% economic bonus from customization, +10 from Planetary Impro
3) Remove the +300% food tiles (a sure way to tank your approval if you ever use them) or slightly change the morale curve on populations over 19 billion. As it is, under the current morale rules it is usually a detriment to try and use them for their intended purpose, so I ignore them. They are a trap for the inexperienced, however. I fell for this. It was like an April's Fool joke. Morale dropped down the toilet big time. <div class=
For those of you who are new to buying Stardock software, the product you purchase is just the beginning of what you get. Stardock updates it software based on customer feedback. In the case of Galactic Civilizations II: Dark Avatar we are lookoing for suggestions and feature requests that players would like to see in a free update. Mind you, these can't be massive new features (i.e. "Multiplayer" or "Fleet combat") but rather little
Trade doesn't bring in enough to warrant the effort. Sure, you can build starbases and upgrade it with a dozen constructors, but... bah! I think economic treaties are more valuable. I'm guessing you can't have treaties outside the UP? Or am I wrong...
Don't get me wrong, I love starbases. I just started playing as the Thalans, per some advice I got here, and I think they kick butt. Super Hive! What can I say, I no longer have to spend 1,000 turns for my planet to finish improving all its tiles. It's just that the United Planets tend to vote on limiting the modules on them... I freaking hate the United Planets. What, exactly, would happen if I left the UP? Would I be able to ignore all their laws then?
Maybe it has something to do with galaxy settings. I always set everything to abundant. I think this is bad, now, since the AI gets really overpowered in its influence, and it has no issues with patience and doesn't really feel annoying with micromanagement. I wish I were a computer sometimes.
I just double click the Galactic Civilizations II - Gold Edition icon on my desktop to play, but the Dark Avatar movie plays and the bottom left screen shows "Dark Avatar v1.50x3" (or whatever version it is, my memory stinks). Still not there. Maybe if you have good relations with the person you can't declare war... I'll try a new game and see if it comes up.
Well the Altarians start with basic factories, labs and economic builds, too. I only like playing them because the three (in my opinion) best traits--Morale, Research and Economy--are concentrated on by Altarians. On the downside, they get no social or military production bonuses and so you sit there waiting for hell to freeze over while your factories get built, your influence is actually a gas cloud brought on by excessive flatulence (a small cloud, but still), and everyone hates you because y
I have Gold Edition, which has the expansion, and that option isn't there, I say.
(2) Start of new turn. Have observed an old DL bug where ship creation reports are not shown. Irritating when playing on a gigantic galaxy with large numbers of ship produing planets. End up with transports not being launched etc. Perhaps an auto-launch all built ships feature? This happens to me too. The launch all ships thingy in the bottom right corner doesn't show up, either. It seems to happen when I build core ships instead of building ones I
That option isn't there, only other races pop up. I guess I should mention that I had good relations with this race, maybe that's why? A lot of races kept appealing to me for help against them (they were too influential), but all I said was "Blah blah, but they're our friend, etc."...
I pretty much do all of that. This is how I usually play now... Altarian Race (Not going to stop picking them until I win my first game, then I'll move on to something else)... Spend my 10 points like this: 4 in Economy, 3 in Morale, 3 in Tech + Tech Pol. Party. I end up with +60 Economics, +40 Morale, +60 Technology. First turn, set taxes to 49%. I start researching Advanced Prop. Tech. Set Production to 100%, Research to 100%, set flagship to auto-survey and my mining ship to
Wow, this is messed up. I'm still playing the same game three days in a row, and it's not as though I only play a few hours a night. I'm talking playing long enough to get yelled at and denied any sort of physical contact for hours on end, that's how bad it is. I'm actually considering quitting for good just to keep the peace... but, nah. Anyway... hm. So the game has the Altarians (me), Torians, Arceans, Yor, Iconians and Korx. I am way ahead of everyone, especially in Technology. I have about
I'm sure this has been brought up before since I did a search on how to declare war, and I'm just wondering... why is there no option to declare war in the foreign relations panel?
I have about 15 planets in my current game, and only one planet I colonized had any bonus tiles to speak of. It's an aquatic world, too. A +100% research tile and a +100% production tile. Not really worth waiting to find a planet with bonus tiles to make it into a capital, really. So far my best luck came with a PQ 26 planet with a ring around it. A choice came up and I chose "Dump the underwater pukes into the ocean, I need room for my chemistry set!" and got +56% research. Needless to say this
It doesn't happen to me all the time, but it does happen every now and again. There are also times when a ship will land on a planet on the way to its destination, and you are never told, but you're relying on the auto-pilot to go where you said. Instead, it just orbits the planet and you never know until you pull up the ship list and find it there, or see a shield on one of your planets (unless that planet usually has ships on it, and then you're clueless). When I command a ship to go somewhere
Build an economy starbase near a cluster of planets and begin reducing the cost of your buildings, research, and military. Everytime you upgrade the starbase, you decreese the money spent on running your empire. I have read up on starbase modules and have yet to find any that reduce the cost of anything. They just give a production bonus in %, or to your trade income. What am I missing here? And for the record, I colonized over 15 planets
Well, I never said I was building capitals, just specialized planets. A good ecomonic planet with nothing but economy buildings helps a lot, though not as much as I wish it did. I build this to support my specialized manufacturing and technology planets, which I build next. Technology first, to get a boost. I don't think a specialized planet has to be a capital, it just does what it does. I make planets with rings around them into tech planets and ones with moons into factory planets. It all dep
How do I raise my influence? I'm Altarian with +60 Economics, +40 Technology and +40 Morale (+20 Technology from Technologists party)... I see on some of my colonies a decimal in parenthesis (0.56, for instance). How big does that # have to be before my planet rebels? In this game the Korath are just coming into my influence and claiming planets, and it's cutting down my influence ring big time.
Everyone seems to hate the Torians! What's up with that? I feel sorry for 'em, specially after that intro movie.
I am not giving up. I keep coming here and picking up more advise, and trying it out in the game, and I just want to say that I appreciate all the responses. Sorry if I moan too much, but I am still "newbie-ish" to these 4x games. The only other one I've played is Civilizations IV (no expansion pack--Warlords?). And then I only won on a Continents map, and in a Space Race victory. So you see, even in that game, my first 4x game, I didn't really master it. I actually prefer the space version of t
