Yeah, I definitely enjoy Dom3. There is indeed a nice sized learning curve but to me, that's part of the fun. The pure depth and tactical strategy involved is amazing not to mention the many races, spells, items, etc. No two games are ever nearly the same. Once you think you've mastered the AI, which I still have not, the multiplayer fun begins and you'll see new strategies you had never even thought of through hosted games and PBEM. Not to mention I can play it on my laptop as there ar

Yep, it looks like I'll be sticking with my desktop, much to the wife's discontent. :d But hey, on the upside it looks much better on a 24" lcd in 1920x1200 rez! Thanks all, I'm sure you'll be seeing me around with questions on actual gameplay soon enough. Best regards, Drudge
[quote]Please open your debug.err file from your laptop in notepad, and copy/paste the contents into a post here. This will give us some technical information that can help troubleshoot your problem. The location you'll find the debug.err in varies depending on your game version: Dread Lords, all versions: C:\Program Files\Stardock\Totalgaming\GalCiv2 Dark Avatar 1.5-1.6 (non-Vista): C:\Program Files\Stardock\Totalgaming\GalCiv2\DarkAvatar Da
Vista will recognize the entire 4 gigs of RAM if you have the 64 bit version, which my desktop has. I do not believe laptops come with 64 bit versions but I could be wrong on that.
Yeah, I'm thinking it's probably Vista. I really wish they would release a service pack for that already. Absolutely horrendous memory management. For the heck of it I'm going to try and load it onto a second laptop I have but it's a good deal older. I think it only has 512 meg RAM but at least it's running XP. Who knows, maybe that would work better. And boy if that is indeed the case that speaks volumes about Vista's performance. If companies are going to preload Vista onto computers
I will most certainly post the debug.err file when I get home from work, thanks! Right now off the top of my head all I can say is it's an AMD 64 chip with 2 gigs of RAM on Vista Home but I will elaborate when I get home. It's much more convenient to play on the laptop for me since the wife will flip out on me if I dissappear upstairs with all 3 kids, ages 1,3,4 all up and about. I guess I can see her point. :D Hopefully with some help from you guys here I can get this workin
I was just curious. I've got the game installed and running great on my desktop, which I would expect it to because it is quite a beast of a system. However, I had just installed it on my laptop as well for when I can't get upstairs and lock myself into the computer room away from the kids. Sadly, the performance is quite terrible. The laptop appears to meet recommended specs but it just does not function very well. As soon as I start the game up and get to the title screen with the fe
Thanks for the replies. I think I'll run through the tutorials just to get accustomed to the interface and proceed to jump right in then. Just curious, do most people not play through the scenarios? If I'm not mistaken that's usually the best way to start off in learning a new game, no?
Hi all, I'll admit I have had this game for quite some time. I have the gold edition by the way. Anywho, I've never really given this game a shot but wish to change that now. As an absolute beginner, should I run through the included tutorials and then proceed through the scenarios? Or is it better to just jump into a campaign? If so, what settings would be best to get my feet wet and not be completely demoralized but still have a decent challenge? I'm looking forward to carvin
I would say to anyone waiting for this yet to be named title, go check out Dominions 3 to hold your fantasy fix for the time being. An extremely fun and addictive 4x fantasy TBS strategy game. Well supported and the community is really great. But be warned of 3 caveats. First, don't expect ground breaking graphics (which is actually a plus so one can play on a fairly old laptop even), secondly the game is quite deep. Perhaps too deep for the meek. Lastly, it will suck the bleeding life out of yo
Hi all, What determines the amount of colony maintenance? On my homeworld it's like a cost of 2 but on a colony a few parsecs away it's around 12 with no improvements. Where is this money going? I thought maintenance depended on upkeep cost of improvements. At least that's what this horrid instruction manual would have one believe. I do hesitate to call it an instruction manual. I find more info out on these message boards. Regards
Hi all, I'm finding that the included game manual is all but useless in explaining exactly how the economy in this game functions. Can someone please post a link or give me a run down on what the heck the numbers mean and how they are derived? I apologize because I simply cannot even ask a specific question relating to the economy. I don't even know where to begin. But let me try. Economy Screen: Tax rate- Suppose I set it to 50% at the start of the game. Ok
Check for what? If it wasn't enabled it wouldn't work right from the start. That would not be the cause of having a fully functional mouse hours into a game and then having it suddenly freeze up. But yeah, I did check.
I would imagine it would have to be as I will be playing for quite awhile before this happens. Actually I wasn't entirely accurate in my description. All of a sudden the mouse pointer freezes in one place and doesn't move anymore but I can still highlight and click menu buttons and whatnot with my "invisible" pointer. While the actual visible pointer is just stuck somewhere on the screen. This happens sometimes 5 minutes into a game and other times will happen hours into a game. Very weird.
Hi all, Anyone else have this very strange problem? During a game my mouse pointer will simply disappear. When I move my mouse around, the buttons get highlighted as if I was hovering my mouse pointer over them. I can still click and work the various buttons as long as the button is highlighted. I'm essentially playing with an invisible mouse pointer. When I'm able to close out the game my pointer is still invisible when I get back to the desktop. I have to physically restart my compute
