Yes. It's useless, but it's a hitchiker reference.

I got it too. I bet it's a tabbed browsing/multiple windows issue. I reckon the site's saving our current thread to session or cookie whenever we load a thread, so if you refresh a page before you post to it that should solve things until it's fixed.
I get this. I can concur with socially hazardous that it's triggered whenever certain popups appear. I'm not sure about the trade route closed notification, but it definitely happens whenever a planet rebels due to influence. The notification popup appears, but the camera is still moving between autopiloted events etc. To fix it I would quicksave and load. Alt+Tab didn't work for me. I've played in windowed mode 1024*768, fullscreen 1024*768 and fullscreen 1280*800. It nev
What would be handy would be a slider that allowed you to set the deviation or distribution.
Well I never use them to fight proper combat ships, there's no chance of victory. And because an armed cargo hull can have speed and sensors at 7 when the AI doesn't go over 3, you can pick the fights they go into. I just like to use smaller fleets with more specialised roles in the ships, IMO it's more economical both financially and logistically. So since when was destroying an enemy's trade income and starbases not a viable strategy? Maybe it's just me <img src="http://ima
If you need ideas for names and you play in windowed mode, have a look at this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_navies Most of the links on that page link to lists of ship names for each navy. Alternatively, have a thesaurus nearby. Then once you think up a ship name you instantly have eight more!
A lot of AI learning techniques can be CPU intensive, but it's worth it if you want the Ai to be more humanlike and less algorithmic. I'm really impressed by the AI in this game, so if the AI devs want to use more of my CPU they can have it! CraigHB, don't let the difficulty level put you off giving the AI more CPU. Turning the option on and turn the difficulty down and you'll probably get a better experience. I'd only recommend turning it off if you've got some heavy duty programs r
Would be handy if one could change a race's colour mid game. Not just the player's mind, but all races - so if say Torians get eliminated you could use that distinguished green colour if Drengin and Drath or Korax and Iconia happen to be neighbours! Also it doesn't help a beginner that Drengin and Drath are both red, begin with 'Dr' and are both nasty looking! Besmirches the Drath's docile reputation.<
In the early game, when logistics, miniaturization and weaponry are in the early stages one of the things I like to do is have a ship design that basically takes advantage of the space on a cargo hull to have very fast (by early standards) ships with a single weapon. Working with sensor ships to get information on enemy whereabouts, I can avoid enemy fleets and destroy freighters, unarmed starbases, colony ships and transports. I like to call them 'wolfpacks' after the WW2 u-boats.
I'm going to get back to my game tonight and confirm that I have the Mind Control Center just to make sure I'm not speaking out of turn. In any case, I'm bathing this planet in influence from two almost adjacent influence starbases with over 100% bonuses each. The planet is also in the AI's periferary and not in their core area of influence. At last check, my influence was
If you play your economics well the 1000bc or so to set up a starbase is nothing. Alternatively you can switch from a militant to a trade/culture economy practically overnight if you have a strong enough ally - just sell them your ships and your expenses drop like a rock. Starbases in empty space get you tourism income, and if you're evil you get 1bc/turn for every foreign trader in your influence. It adds up. However don't upgrade influence starbases in these situations, as the base
Hey, if you're planning on modding GalCiv to an Andromeda universe, have a look at what Robert Hewitt Wolfe (the series creator) had in plan for the show before the producers 'did their own thing': http://www.rhwolfe.com/Insider%20Info.htm It's in the Andromeda Coda link at the bottom. Basically Rev Bem unites the Wayists into a superstate and allies with the Commonwealth against the Nietzscheans on one side and the Magog on the other. Meanwhile the Pyrrians fight the spir
I use a pennant number system (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pennant_number). If the ship distinguishes itself (or is already valuable enough for distinction) then I append a name to it. So for example: PD 122 Prometheus Plasma Destroyer, 'Destroyer' denoting high attack and speed /no defense. LRSS 3 Hawkeye Long Range Sensor ship. HGD 94 Sparta Home Gunner Deflector, 'Home' denotes short-range. This system comes in handy as the game's default
Yes, it does. Humans have to perfect Xeno Research before they can research Stellar Cartography. In the handful of turns it takes to obtain it, the aliens can get a jump on you, especially when you have a big fat high PQ planet right next door you can't see. Those turns are much better spent on engines to beat those aliens to the planets *you can see* <br/
