Also Emperor of the Fading Suns, if you install one of the two mods that make it worth playing. Oh, my god, I thought I was the only person to play that game. I couldn't get too far into it, but what I saw was so amazing...

Note to self: I have no idea how to format posts on this forum.
I dunno. Playing the game, it feels like one of the top priorities should be UI fixes. The Elemental UI is very clunky and hard to use in a lot of ways... For example, cities. I find the UI for cities to be extremely clunky. THE WISHLIST: Give me a single screen that, without needing to click anything or mouse over anything, gives me a list of what I can build, what the city is producing, and if there's room on the screen, what is already built in the city. Give me an indicator for
The conversation about the gameplay difference between a dumb/cheating AI and a smart/noncheating one is kind of interesting, and it's the reason I liked the GalCiv 2 AI difficulty model, where the AI difficulty up to a certain point was determined entirely by the AI's intelligence, and past that point, it would play with the same level of intelligence but would also "cheat" in the form of bonuses the player didn't get. Intelligent AI isn't bad in GalCiv, but some people still need more chall
I don't think he's talking about the AI cheating, as in building pikemen to counter a player building horsemen (when the AI shouldn't know that the player is building horsemen). It sounds like the GalCiv AI, at least, is programmed to recognize some common behavioral patterns based on how players often play the game, and to use that data to predict the player's actions. From what I know, the AI in these games (Stardock's GalCiv, Elemental) doesn't seem programmed to act on information it shou
I don't remember having this problem on this machine with Dread Lords, but I recently upgraded to the Ultimate Edition, and now all of the Timeline graph, on both the Civilization reports and the endgame roundup, are graphically glitchy. Is this a known issue? It is likely as not to have something to do with my video card-integrated graphics chip-but it's strange I never had this problem prior to buying ultimate.
Wait... if you lose a mission, it doesn't make you lose the campaign and redo the mission?
It's Kohr-ah. In the Star Control universe, the race known as the Ur-Quan are split down a racial/cultural divide. Kind of odd since they work together as well, but basically the Kzer-za (Green) ur-quan believe all non-Ur-Quan races must either be enslaved by the Ur-Quan or made fallow (imprisoned beneath impenetrable slave shields.) Whereas the Kohr-Ah, or Black Ur-Quan, believe that all possible threats to Ur-Quan supremacy must be eliminated... and that all non-Ur-Quan sentients are threats t
It strikes me as the best (only?) effective strategy against the Dread Lords at this point in the campaign (they just appeared) is not large dreadnought ships, but large fleets of midgetty flea ships. The dreadnoughts die in one round and never do anything. The fleas die instantly too, but one dead flea leaves two or three other fleas to shoot their crappy plasma beams at the DL ship.
As I understand it, the size of each part scales up based on hull space or something. So basically, as miniaturization increases hull space, the size of the parts increases slightly as well. I hear it's fixed now though. As I understand the defense workings, it rolls on your defense from 1 to your defense number in each category? So against a laser attack, it'll roll the square root of PD+square root of armor+full shields? Say you've got 1/1/1 defense, then. Does this
Well, in a lot of other strategy games I've played you get some diplomatic repercussions from declaring war by actually attacking. Usually the game wants you to diplomatically notify them of their impending doom rather than supplying the notification aboard the impending doom, y'know?
Welp, I normally start with a factory or three, just to ensure that the rest of the improvements don't take forever. That strategy sounds about right, though for the really really big planets (I got a PQ-26 the other day) I like to balance it out. This one planet was both my tech AND my manufacturing capital. Probably not the best way to do it, but meh. Economic planets want lots of people. Ergo, lots of space, and higher PQ planets... I guess. Manufacturing planets want to be ab
