Quoting broskiier, reply 1 I'll add to this: I find it quite hard to get a holistic view of what my opponents are up to. If I want to sabotage one of my opponents, its hard for me to get a holistic view of where is operations are. If we had a color-coded minimap, even if its an overla

Yeah I tried my first quick game on a huge map with 7 A.I.'s. Things were going fine with the top stock prices for a few of us around 20. Next thing you know someone's stock was soaring to around 50 and he started purchasing stock like crazy. I looked and noticed he was the only one with a OW trade launcher. I had already bought 5 of my stocks early to try and protect myself a bit. But before I really had time to react, my last two un-bought stocks

I guess I fall in the very small minority as I think there is way to much production available as is. I get to the point so quick where I am 1 turning ships the game loses a lot in my mind. So I guess production overflow never bothered me. But I find it incredibly dull being able to 1 turn a large or bigger ship to begin with.
The thing that bugs me so much is reading about their original prototype, they basically kept the same mechanics of the original, albeit with improved UI and technology. They tested it with people in the studio and Xcom fans loved it, while people who had never played Xcom found it 'slow' and too hard. So they dumbed it down. I can see both sides of this coin and understand where the freedom and flexibility side are coming from. That being said I fall on the other side of the fence. I also think there at least should be either a penalty or complete lockout. My main reasons are two fold First is abuse of the system. The first few play trough's I have done have shown me that ideology really means nothing. All I see when they pop is oh goodie new bonus picking t

I think the problem really gets back to the fact weapons have no real size....I.E. the point Defense anti fighter batteries would never really be used at another capital ship. That was always something that bothered me about almost all space empire sims. They never build their capital ships correctly. Real capital ships have large scale weapons and small scale weapons. The large bore guns are for ship to ship fighting and the small scale stuff is for PD. And it is
Quoting Turkwise, reply 76 Starbases do literally nothing to ships. I've seen cases kill small fleets. That said, if there is something really wrong with starbases in combat, the battle viewer will make it obvious.
&nbs

Well considering they said in the last live cast you could get a star base to 100 attack and defense across the board with all the add-ons I am leaning towards not very strong. 100 across the board sounds decent until you realize that also during that live cast the two titan fleet had scores well over 200. So honestly, sadly, I don't see star bases being all that potent. That 100 probably won't be all that impressive by the time you have actually researched everything to get i

Have to agree here, kind of tired of size trumps all. It is especially noticeable in GC3. With everything from production to research to wealth to influence tied into pop size it really does feel like a rat race to colonize as much as possible. And if I end up with twice as many colonies you will lose. Twice as many colonies means twice as much pop more often than not, which leads to being able to equal your max research and still out produce you easily. This in turn leads

How do they prevent drilling past an age? While I haven't drilled a single tree yet in any of my games. I have come close to it. And I didn't notice anything that stopped me from picking a tech across the age of war line.

First off let me say my Nerd is not strong enough to run numbers against you all. That being said this is a game and some suspension of belief is required. While I don't want to see complete wackiness be the rule of the day, I also don't want a draconian vision of reality to rule. My take is Starbases should not be rickrolled by the first small or medium hull ship that rolls in, even bases like cultural or mining should at least take a squad of ships to take down. And

I had to actually redo my password just because I wanted to chime in on this one... I have to agree with the OP. The constructor spam in this game is just to much. I love most of the game mechanics so far even if I am trying to remember how everything works atm. but the two most aggravating things are... A. Taking two constructors to actually make a usable starbase. and B. Having to constantly spam constructors to all c

I have a silly question, but is there an ETA on MP. I know this is mostly a SP game and MP probably isn't a high priority. But with the AI needing some serious work I am thinking the MP could be a huge hold over till it gets it.
I find it weird that a famous gaming mag [PC GAMER] is publishing articles like this....and I am not talking about the bugs/CTDs reported by the author of the article...that is ok. No game is perfect @ release. However the author quoted some parts of one of Froggie's Q3t forum posts in a very pathetic way imo. That is not acceptable. *sigh* A few points if I may 1. Damn you froggy, I had made my peace with the standard edition. Now I am going to have to upgrade just for the book. As nice as they are I really don't put much stock in out of game goodies in CE's ... But a 150 page book [e digicons]:'([/e] . That just brings back memories of old games and reading the manuals. 2. I really need to get back to doing some Beta but.... Damn You Starcraft!!!! 3. As we close in on the end of beta I just

You know someone said "Save the world quests" and I was thinking (this is more a MP idea.) But what if you had quests like "A huge dragonflight is about to decimate the continent and every living thing on it." Now this opens up a world quest where it is in everybodies best interest to get this done before they all lose the game. But lets say I am already losing the game. I am in a bad way and it is just a matter of time before I am gone. All of a sudden saving the world

I have to say I agree with the OP here. There are basic resources and then there are special resources. Basic resources, Lumber, Food, Iron should be available to everyone Special Resources Clay, Gems, Marble, Prestige Tiles, These can be rare and if you get them great if not oh well. But the three basics, Food, Iron, and Lumber are kinda must haves and as such should be relatively freely available.
