I've been playing this game and its predecessors forever, and have debated features with Brad on usenet since time immemorial. My take is simple. I don't play the game much now because my wife and I can't play it together. Multiplayer gaming is to single player gaming as poker is to solitaire. I have no strong interest in sitting alone in front of a monitor. I want to interact with other *people* and play the games that I love with the people that I love. Please give me multiplayer.<b

Oh yeah, one more thing. I will gladly pay an extra $20 for a multiplayer option, and then STILL buy multiple copies of the game.
I've read all the opinions for and against multiplayer and I believe I understand the arguments. Brad makes a compelling case. That said, I consider it a huge disappointment that GalCiv lacks multiplayer. For me, that makes it a 2nd class game, an anachronism with a shorter shelf life and far more value in our household. Old time GalCiv player, been buried in MMO-world for a long time but jonesing again for that TBS fix. Been having a great time with Civ IV, but I see that GalCiv II is out now and I was a big fan of 1 so I'm considering buying this.
