In a diplomatic victory you 'share' victory with others. It's not as 'complete' a victory as being the sole victor. Is this reflected in terms of end game score?
Kirill, I agree with you 100%. The races being alike is a key weakness in the game. Also, it makes some races overpowered - just look at how many abilities the Drath start with. See my post on the same topic: Link
As far as I can see, while the Civ AI is impressive, the different civs all use the same one. The only difference between the civs lies in the bonuses that they each recieve, which in turn influences how they play. No. The civ leaders have very different personalities. <TABLE cellpadding=8 width="95%" align=center bgColor=#FFF394 cla
I'm not talking about the main screen. I'm talking about the minimap. Surely you will then agree there is an issue?
They do that anyway, have you not realised? The advantage is them not invading your planet. Your enemy can do espionage, and often does, they know exactly what ships your using, they evaluate your strategy. By placing your armada in empty space the enemy can't see the ships themselves unless they have line of sight. actualy you also get a damage bonus. its about +1 damage for every weapon on it. Dont believe me? th
Do ships receive any benefits from being in orbit? I know they repair twice as fast - but is that all? Any combat bonuses? There really needs to be an advantage if there isn't already because there certainly is a huge disadvantage to having your ships in orbit: The enemy can check your ships out, deriving knowledge you don't want him to have such as what type of weapons you specialize in.
If your approval rating reaches 100%, your population growth is doubled. If your approval rate falls below 30%, your population growth will stop. Your population can decrease if your approval rating goes low enough. Your population will also decrease if you can’t provide 1 mt/wk of food for every mil
1. Do starbases generate influence themselves or only boost the influence of other things? 2. Influence starbases give percentage bonuses, say 7%. Seven percent to what? The influence of the planets' in the starbase's radius? 3. Where should I build influence starbases? Near my planets? Near the enemy? 4. If (?) influence starbases boost the influence of their surroundings... do they only affect the influence of what is

You do realize that you can change the starting bonus's to anything you want right? And those race specific bonus's are equaled out with less points to distribute. But if you do reset the point total it removes those 'big locked boni' and instead gives you the points. Nonsense. The Drath get bo
Nobody else thinks this is an issue?
The problem is with how they created the AI - it doesn't model human 'diplomacy' very well. Imagine you'd been playing a multiplayer game. One player is defeated. Would he surrender to the Yor just to spite somebody else? Probably - if he has a vengeful personality. Is it likely that three players would do this? Not really. The game needs to model this. The AI should reflect different human personalities. Here is how it should be: -So
He's possibly a troll, possibly someone from a company contracted to try and make people talk about Civ 4 and dis similar games, they exist everywhere ,and post similar things all the time. And since his post has very little mis-spellings and grammar snafu's, I am betting he's not just an ordinary troll. Ignore him, close the post. <im
Very intelligent post, Veblen. You obviously understand the evident 'AI tech trading issue'. I hope Stardock reads your post and decides to take action.
And each species does get a number of special bonuses. You may not think that the Terran diplomacy bonus is significant, but that's probably because you don't play a diplomatic game. They're all listed when you're selecting which species to play, so you should look at that before you start criticizing people. <br
I want to add that some of the races are also hugely unbalanced. The Yor, for example, are almost impossible to culturally subvert yet they have no weaknesses. The humans are very weak with few starting techs, low starting logistics and no boni whatsoever. The Drath are the strongest race with a ridiculous number of very powerful traits. Developers, what the *BEEP* were you thinking when designing this? Not thinking much at all, I suspect. <img src="ht
In Civilization 4, the factions are all very different from each other. For example, Gandhi is a peaceful builder whereas Genghis Khan is a militaristic conqueror. Hatshepsut is a gifted diplomat while Asoka is a technology expert. It is not just the AI's of the factions that are different - they also have different abilities. For example, to reinforce Gandhi's incitement to play as a builder rather than a conqueror he gets a discount on won
In Civilization 4, the cost of researching a technology - measured in beakers - is displayed. This is essential, because it allows you to compare techs: How much is 'mathematics' worth compared to 'horseback riding'? For example, the former might be worth 300 beakers and the later 500. In this game, the cost is not displayed. You are only told how many weeks a given tech will take to research. This lack of information is a huge problem becau
The high-diplomacy AI races kind of screw themselves, though, by not accepting trades. I'm sure we've all seen races like the Terrans turn down trades that would be vastly in their favour just because they have a much higher diplomacy rating than you do... I can't see how it helps them to turn down your offer of Plasma Weapons V
This is on Tough.
Attacker gets a 5 point advantage for air superiority. But that still pales in comparison to his 25 soldiering ability.
I just invaded the Drengin. I'm using traditional warfare. Me: 2000 soldiers. Advantage factor 0. Soldiering 0. Tech 4000. Drengin: 6000 soldiers. Advantage factor 2. Soldiering 25. Tech 4600. Now, to my surprise I have an advantage of 20 to 5! How in the wide world is that possible?!
Just like there is an 'ownership' viewing mode for viewing influence there needs to be a 'fog of war' viewing mode that displays what territory is currently in your line of sight and what isn't. Currently, it's rather difficult finding out what you can see and can't see. This would improve the game a lot.
Various things in the game - techs, diplomatic translator trade goods and so on - boost your diplomatic ability, giving you a better deal when trading with others. What I wonder is how this is handled in relation to the player. Unlike the AI, a player doesn't care what your bonus to diplomacy is: Just because the AI has the diplomatic translator trade goods you aren't going to cut it a better deal, correct? So, it would seem the player has an unfair a
