The AI's are quite reluctant to trade with the player. Do they trade equally little in-between?` I've heard the AI's don't discern between the player and other AI's. Is this true, and does it go for trading as well?

I'd really like somebody to throw up some numbers they're positive are correct. It's really quite essential knowing whether it's important to keep happiness above a certain level. Are there no break points between 30 and 75%?

Once I start hitting medium or larger hulls do small/tiny become obsolete or are they still a viable choice? What is your general experience? I don't have enough experience with the game to tell but I imagine small/tiny hulls pretty much become redundant.

If I have specialized in beam weapons and am rather far into this tech branch (let's say to phasor weapons) does it pay off switching to a different weapon type if my opponent starts using shields? I would have to go all the way back to missile/gun theory and work my way up from there, meaning I would have to use the inefficient initial weapons such as miniballs. If you are rather far into the game is it viable to start over specializing in

The disadvantage of small hulls is the lack of hitpoints. Ships will go down faster and when they do they'll no longer be adding firepower. After just a few turns those small ships will be doing 28 rather than 32 damage.

The AI detects you constructing starbases close to it's territory and reacts to it so I doubt it would be very difficult to program the AI not to build bases close to you unless it's to provoke you to initiate war.

Here's an idea: Make the AI prioritize other types of victory over diplomatic victory. Make the AI reject alliances if it believes it has a good chance to become the sole victor through for example a technological victory In other words, make the AI more 'human'. I'm sure most of us would prefer being the lone victor rather than share victory with half the galaxy. Like Fluke says: <TABLE cellpadding=8 width="95%" align=center bgCo

I'm afraid I have to report the AI is still not protecting transports. The Yor just declared war on me and sent three troop transports at me. It was only 4-5 parsecs behind them that the fighters came. Sorry, Stardock, but this is just not good enough.

Developers: Why are the races so different in terms of starting abilities? Do 'weak' races like humans get some kind of advantage we can't see? Are there any plans to rebalance the races?

I'm curious about this statement. What AI level you playing Civ 4 in? You do know that any level above Noble the AI is getting significant bonuses right? I'm not quite as good as the experts so I play on prince. Yes, I am well aware the AI gets bonuses. I just downloaded the new

The AI is so bad at combat - even with all AI algorithms (tough difficulty setting) enabled, version 1.1 beta 4 - that it effectively ruins in the game. How can you take the game seriously when the AI -sends troop transports to your well defended planets unprotected -sends single fighters against your fleets -declares war on you while having defenseless freighters/constructors near your forces -builds weapon

The Humans do get a 25% Diplomacy bonus for free. 25% is not one of the choices in the race picks so they get it at no cost. Other races get simmilar things. Try this, go to the human screen and click reset. now look at what has stayed behind. When a race is assigned a % to an ability that is not an option to be picked then it ge

What none of you seem to understand is that what I have listed are the FREE abilities. Sure, the humans get more than 6% logistics - but all except this bonus COSTS them some of the 10 distribution points. The Drath, on the other hand, get all those massive bonuses for FREE - in addition to the 10 points. Insanely unbalanced.

If I have a ship with 1 beam attack and attack an enemy ship with 1 beam defense, is it then impossible for me to damage it? I mean, I will 'roll' an attack of 1 while they will 'roll' a defense of 1, cancelling my attack out, correct? Another case. My ship has 1 beam attack. I'm attacking a ship with 1 gun defense (armor). According to the manual, "non-optimal defenses are also added at a rate of the square root of their value." Is it impossible for me to destroy this ship? <

Some races start out with a lot more bonuses and more techs as well than others. Here is an example of a weak and an overpowered race: Human (weak): Abilities: Logistics +6% Techs: Hyperdrive, xeno communications, xeno engineering Drath (overpowered): Abilities: Defense +50%, military production +25%, diplomacy +25%, espionage +50%, logistics +6% Techs: Hyperdrive, ion drive, galactic warfare, xeno industrial theory, xeno engineerin
