I've got the same opinion about tactical combat : it's fun until it gets boring, then the full game is boring. My personal preference would be for a pseudo-tactical combat where everything is automatised once the battle start (maybe with some initial orders).

While it is clear that defences don't stand up as well against multiple attackers, one on one with larger ships they are much *more* effective than before. Well, all combat rolls are a lot less luck dependant than before (exception made if you only have 1 weapon) because of the law of great numbers. As for defense on big ships again

Well, I've already did #3 a few times... And worst of all, sometime it wasn't even AIs that I coded myself or anything like that. 1. What should I be doing with my spies? Protect my worlds or send them out? If so, which worlds should they go to? 2. If I'm sending a spy to a given world, which planet improvements should I take out that will do the mo

I just ran this battle in Kryo simulator. The result is that the defender should win in around ~0.1% of the time. (Had to ran it many time because of the abysmal probabilities.) So you had 1 chance in a thousand to lose and you got it. It's a really bad luck, but it is bound to happens to someone with so much players and so much games played.

This luck ability seems a bit strange. It kindof makes attack abilities obselete since it would always be more of an advantage to choose luck. Well, luck is exactly worth as much as attack. And they stack. But I would say that for a 1pt ability 25% luck is way better than 10% attack (what you get for 1pt). Luck should at least be increased to 2pt

I see that the AI loves those Superior Duranthium defenses... One data which could be interesting in those report is if the winner of each game was the one with the best research after the colonisation phase. As far as I see it, maybe the Drengin won only through superior research. Thinking about it, almost all of those AI ships have better tech than your.

I certainly don't plan to stop coding on the game just because it's "shipped". But at the same time, if someone has selected "shake the snow globe up" and then says "Hey, the snow globe got shook up" I'm not inclined to spend time trying to make the snow globe shaking more gentle. Well, the problem is not that the snow globe has been shaken, but

Another suggestion : each trade route you have going to another civilisation counts as a spy. It would reflect the fact that if you are trading with another race, you should have a lot more facility planting spies. Well, sort of.

3) Attacker seems to get a too great an advantage when conquering planets. In traditional warfare, you usually are said to need 3:1 advantage when attacking. Now, I understand that's not what we want, and taking planets shouldn't be made impossible for the AI. Still, consider the following example where I let a single Thalan troop transport to hit my planet. T

The formula for attack is definatly 1-max. Against defenceless ennemies, I've never seen a damage of 0. If it was 0-max, then half of the time a ship with only an attack rating of 1 would do zero damage, which is not the case in game. What I would like to see addressed, is that right now in DA, the damage is (number of weapons)-(total attack rating). So, in effet, you get an inflation of the average damage done by weak weapons (like lasers). Right now, the average damage from a l

I feel there should be more significant limiting factors for luck in defence and attack. I don't like the idea of the posibility that luck can seriously affect a combat outcome. You know, otherwise we may as well just forget about all this weapons and defence technology, infact just forget about playing Galciv at all and lets all run down to the casino!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mystikmind : It is already possible in Dread Lord. (If I understand correctly) Your battleship with lots of weapons with an attack rating of 100 have a 5% chance of not killing in one blow the 6hp ship (but still damaging it). Right now in DA, if you have 6 lasers, you will always kill the 6hp ship. (With my proposed change, it your odds would be 1/32 or 1/64, depending on the implementation.)

This is something that I realized about the last beta (2b) : Since each weapon damage is computed independantly, and damage is rolled with a minimum of one (damage = 1 to attack), then ships armed only with lasers (or one of the others 1-attack weapons) will always does their maximum damage against non-defended ships. With the previous system (DL), it would inflict a random damage from 1 to its total attack. Am I the only one bothered by this? This problem remove chance from the equ

Have you checked your miniaturisation ability? It is put equal to 0% when you have the disease event (well it was in beta2 when I had the event). So, if you used any of this extra space, you won't be able to use your present designs.

Is it me or this system discourage using fleets with more than one weapon type? Since for each different weapon type you will have to go through the full defense, it would be weaker than having only one type and using the defense degradation to its full potential. As an aside, I'm quite happy to see a very clear benefit from the luck ability. We should start to fear Universalist Altarians from now on...

Is it me or the starship bonus only affect Attack, and not Defense? I've got planets with a bonus higher than 40% where I built ships with more than 3 defense and I've never seen any difference. I'm even feeling slightly guilty to build ships with defense on those planets (and benefit less from the bonus).

Ok, since I have the beta, I should as well participate in the forum, isn't it? So far, I'm in my third beta 2 game (no crash or big bug so far), and here are some "oddities" I found while playing (I hope none of them have already been report) : - I got the Disease mega-event, which reduced all stats to 0% (If I remember well, it didn't include trade routes). So, everyone had 0 logistic. But my friendly neighbours the Koraths kept their fleets. It didn't mattered anyway since n
