Necros threados resurrectus! I've just started playing again (after over a year away) and, whilst I understand the game a lot more now I still have a few questions regarding starbase effects and ranges. Firstly, does an influence starbase affect the influence produced by your planets within the circle of effect, or the influence felt by enemy planets within the circle of effect? I has always assumed the former, but the latter would also make some sense... <br/

Zippyriver, are you talking about 'Class' or 'Planet Quality'? I thought these were twocompletely different things - class relates to the number of tiles available for building on, whilst PQ relates to maximum population and possibly approval rating. That said, I've never seen this mystical planet quality indicated anywhere in a planet... so is it possibly derived from the class?

Bump? I need to be bumping these? I'm used to being told off for that kind of thing I did check the approval tooltip in one of my planets - it said my civ bonus for that was "+ " I've also been experiencing more crashes in this version, but by and large I've just been going straight back into the g

Two new bugs I've found in the Beta today: 1: Suddenly, without any warning, my entire race went from at least 45% approval to 1%. When I tried setting the tax rate to the minimum, everybody was still at 1%. This happened just after the *ahem* Pokemon event on one of my planets. (I presume this to be a bug, anyway!) 2: On the treaty screen, my race was shifted to just beyond the top left of the screen, and all the treaty lines wen

I've only ever played Tiny gals (played a small one on the third(?) campaign mission, but other than that all tiny maps!) Last night, I figured I'd set it on Gigantic, just for a laugh... My god, forget everything else - the sheer site of that minimap had me wetting myself in both joy and anticiaption! Then I saw a funny line cetnred around my planet... Took me a while to realise it was my flagship's range - I'd never s

Okay, this may well be where things fall into the 'user error' category, then! I don't actually know where the Planet Quality is displayed, let alone how it impacts on the planet... I was under the impression it just added to the planet's approval rating, but I'm beginning to think I may be wrong... The military slider would indeed have been set to 0%. Does that mean that if it was at 1%, all the unused social would be put into military (as

(Cross-posted, so sorry for the double-post). All the music files should be in the game's directory, as MP3s I believe. So just copy them to new names, then put your Mozart in the directory renamed to whichever piece of music you want it to play over. Haven't tried it, but that should work, I think...

Game crashes when trying to attack a race that was previously 'warm' - I tried getting an armed fighter to attack an unarmed ship orbitting the a Terran planet (I am a custom race), it gave me a warning that the Terrans would declare war, then the game crashed. Debug.err attached, save file available if need be.

Bug, Feature or User Error? I'm presuming the latter, so I'm posting to learn how to play the game right... (I wonder if we should have a dedicated thread for this, so that people can post their own Bugs / Features / User Errors without clotting up bug report threads!) (V1.10b2) 1: Population Sticking - Occasionally, some planets' populations stop increasing, even if they have suffiicient food (e.g 2.5billion pop, 5bil

Would it be possible to make it so that troop ships (and I think colonisers, too) do not automatically disembark their population when moved into orbit of a friendly planet? I can see times when people might want to keep a loaded troop-ship in orbit, where that planet's fleets can protect it from enemy attacks. That said, I realise this is also open to abuse - for example, people could just stack a load of fully-laden troop ships in orbit of

The AI cheating can put the advantage too far in the AI's favour. This doesn't worry me in the level of challenge, but it would very much frustrate me if, say, the AI built something in the space of one turn that would normally have taken two. When the rules go out of the window, the player has to learn not only how to play as a human, but how the computer can play as well, in order to make informed choices during the game. Personally, this does not st

Game crashes almost immediately (once when setting up a new game, once when trying to skip over the intro video) V1.0X was by and large working fine on my computer, though there is a chance that something else is the cause here, not the v1.1 Beta. Do Civ Capitals on captured planets downgrade to Civ capitals or stay as they are, then? (I don't know... last few games I played were early campaign games, so once I'd taken over the Drengin's homeworlds and pressed the 'Turn' button, the game ended...) Mooncusser, in your case, did you have any race bonuses? (These aren't added to the detail page for the colony, I think...) I must say that, now that I understand the economic mec

Whilst this all sounds good, there is still one vital point: The version 1.0X is now NOT available in the downloads sections where it is supposed to be (apparently it can still be found somewhere, though I've not seen this for certain myself). V1.0X is now marked as obsolete, even though there is no V1.1 available to replace it. Even after V1.1 beta is released on SDC, the old V1.0X will, it seems, NOT be available to people who don't want t

It's something that is becoming more and more common in the gaming industry in particular - publishers put huge pressure on developers to deliver by a certain date, so the developers deliver a game that is buggy as hell. This is the curse of the internet for we gamers (and also a curse for we developers...) But it's a double-edged sword - or, at least, it is in some cases. Whilst gamers now expect games to require patching (we shouldn't have
