Right now there are some useful controls over effective galaxy size. Of course, there is the size option itself. Then the user's ability to select relative frequencies of stars, planets, habitable planets, etc. allows the user to vary the effective size. So far so good. My suggestion... To complete this functionality allow the user to select the cost/time to develop range related techs such as "life support" without affecting the rest of the tech trees. With this addition, one

This has happened to me in v1.2 two or three times today -- not before. I have used only the v1.2 patch and have never had v1.3b anywhere near my machine. Sometimes I can use the "menu" button, and if I can, getting to "menu" and, then, just clicking "continue" seems to work becuase I continue back into the normal state. Sometimes "menu" freezes as well. All of this happens when I have started clicking "skip" rapidly to cycle through lots of fleets. Now I do that very very slowly. Fortu

I don't really agree that the sole purpose of a strategy game is to win. For me at least, it is to win with a certain personality in that game. In other words, for me there is a rpg element to the game. For me, without this rpg element, it would not matter whether a game was set in a galaxy like this one or in an unexplored world like the civ series. I like space strategy because it's strategy that permits a space "rpg" mind set.
