ya, thanks. In the end, it had nothing to do with the game and everything to do with some old registry keys on my computer that were screwing it up. It took a bit of a convoluted path to fix it, but the Microsoft support knowledgebase worked it out for me. Thanks. You can delete this thread or close it or whatever.
I just bought Elemental today, after following it for a while and finally deciding that its turining into the game I hope its going to be. So sweet, download it via Impulse, it does its install thing right up until it wants to configure the Microsoft C++ Redistributable thing. It gets to like 99.9% complete (the green bar is full, or close enough that I can't see any white), then it hits me with an error and essentially resets the C++ install, which now doesn't finish.
