Perhaps it is a little late in the day for such a question, seeing as this journal was originally posted over two months ago, but I was wondering whether this equipment model meets the implication that you ought to be able to loot the bodies of your fallen foes for any intact items which you could later use to equip your own units. For instance, if I route a regiment of the powerful Flugurlan Guard, do I get to swipe a couple of their coveted war spears, enchanted with potent fire magics?

Going back to Assumption #3... First of all, are there not ships in Sins that have more than one type of weapon? Ships don't have accuracy, weapons do (unless of course you are ramming, but that is a whole different ball game). How complex do you think you could make accuracy and still have it be easy to understand? Really, whether a weapon is going to hit or not has quite a few factors which can interact in different ways depending on the type of weapon and the type
A few quotes from Frogboy's " A Guided Tour of the Sins Beta! " " Sins of a Solar Empire is designed for the strategy gamer. It's not about who can click the fastest, it's about who can put together the most coherent strategy that requires the player to research new technologies, capture critical resources, and build the right mixture of ships that they can put at the right place at the right time. " " One of the mantras you'll hear us state over and over is that our goal is to
Yeah, macromanagement usually refers to people who excel in production and construction, while micromangement is the people who use more precise control over their units. From what I hear, the object that the developers are shooting for is actually micromanagement of fleet production and macromanagement of fleet deployment. Your work goes in to building a fleet, then you send it off to do its work, and the computer deals with the nitty gritty of actual fighting. I'm totally cool with t
OK... After re-examining Frogboy's original post, I will try and address the core issue of intuitiveness of fleet mechanics. Absolutely, it should be readily apparent how to put together an effective fighting force that can deal with a myriad of different situations. However, if you do not have a certain amount of nuance lying below the surface, then how do you seperate the great players from the merely good ones? In the same way a master chess player can manipulate a less ski
Don't get me wrong, I am not suggesting getting rid of focused fire, but I think you can get to a point where fire is too focused. For instance, say you had a capital ship battle with over a dozen ships on each side. Having both sides go at each other one ship at a time would seem kind of boring. If you could shift it so that it was more advantageous to have only three or four ships concentrate on one enemy rather than eight or nine, it would create more interesting looking battles.
A quick note here, for my first post on this particular forum: A ship taking damage from heavy weapons should have either a slower rate of fire or lower accuracy or both than it would normally have. This is to simulate the " thrown to the deck " affect so common in shows like Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica. A ship under a truly withering assault should have a very hard time using its weapons to good effect. So, the idea would be that in fleet to fleet combat, focusing all
I believe I would have to lean towards an RPG. Fantasy or science fiction, or even science fantasy, I'd be interested in giving any one a look. Certainly something to look at would be making an RPG with A.I. on par with Galactic Civilizations II, at least relatively speaking. As for my personal preference, while as a genre I prefer fantasy to science fiction, I would like to see an good, thoughtful sci-fi RPG. And it could even be turn-based (Fallout worked with it)! I could live without mul
I never owned GalCiv 1 and Altarian Prophecy, so I don't really know how important the events contained therein are to guessing who gets the axe, but personally, my strongest opinion (as there are arguments for others) is that the Altarians and the Yor are going to get wiped out. At least one of those two. The title of this thread may be, " Sometimes evil wins.. " but that doesn't necessarily mean a complete victory. As it is, both the Altarians and th
Actually, it would be nice to have a ship builder that just allowed me to delete designs without having to research the technologies to build them.
I remember seeing something about this on the boards before, but I can't find it now: Insane pirate ships. Not just pirate ships with the most advanced weapons, but pirates ships with more equipment than is possible, in fleets with more ships than is possible. I was playing in a gigantic galaxy on cakewalk with the Terrans (I wanted to actually try researching everything, and I did). I saw a fleet of pirate ships with overf 7000 hps, 36 ships (at least 12 of them were huge, probably m
That's great, Frogboy, but now its going to take me *another* three hours to download an update, and *this* time I can't play while I wait. *sigh* Don't get me wrong, I love the game and all, but some things are so much more frustrating when you have a download speed that settles into like 2.97 kb/sec.
That sure is a lot more manageable than what I was fearing. Thanks.
Could you tell me how big the download is for the Collector's Edition special content? I pre-ordered from local EB, and the guy there just told me today that they only have one SKU for Galactic Civilizations in their system, so things are looking grim. Could you tell me the size of the file or combined files for downloading the CE special content is? Someone mentioned I think 80 Mb for one piece of it... that's like 8 hours of downloading on this computer! I hope there isn't much -more- than t
Err, rather, is the defensive value of a mismatched defense type always rounded down to the nearest whole number? So, for instance, the value of 5 shields vs. missiles would be rounded down to 2, and the value of 12 armour vs. lasers would be 3, or does the system also round up, or take fractional values?
At one of my local EB stores, yesterday they said today, today they said tomorrow. I fear a pattern. I know it's not the fault of the people at the store, and I don't blame them or anything, but it really sucks... . Anyway, as long as the warehouse got hold of the Collector's Edition for the pre-orders, I can forgive. I just hope they get it tomorrow, the earlier the better, 'cause I'm going to be in
Aha! A suitable emblem for my Empires worlds!
