Customer service just extended an olive branch for re-preordering, so I did. As for the beta/charge - I knew about the policy, but I guess I wasn't paying attention and didn't notice that the beta had started. Still, it would have been nice if CS had given me some options the first time around instead of the generic "too bad" reply that I wound up with. Heck, I'd have even understood if I had been told "unfortunately, our system doesn't have the ability to modify orders." In a

I preordered Elemental months ago, the moment it became available for preorder. I love StarDock. Even when I'm not totally gaga over their games (Sins of a Solar Empire), they're still the underdog making original, interesting, games that run great no matter if I'm playing on my dedicated gaming computer or my feeble Asus netbook. I love their stance on DRM and copy protection... I love being able to re-download my games without having to dig up old CDs and patch up the wazoo (although I like
octaviusviii , I've also had more problems with SecuROM in the last several months than StarForce by far. Bad problems too, where games simply dont function. In the two instances I ran into the problem, SecuROM had released a modified EXE that the publishers customer support reps didnt even know about (someone on a forum tipped me as a crack wasn't available yet for the new release). Copy protection really just hurts legitimate customers and
In addition to my last post, I'd like to thank you personally. I like to game on my desktop but I'm out and about a lot with only my laptop. So many great "portable" games these days are starting to use StarForce (*cough* trackmania *cough*) - and I simply can't afford to tote the CDs around with me. Heck, that's why I use my laptop for gaming and not a playstation. With GalCiv2 I can get my grand strategy to go... without being punished fo
So far I've talked to dozens of people about the game (who immediately or later purchased a copy) and 2/3 of those asked point blank "Does it use Starforce?" When I replied "The only copy protection is that registered users get free content updates and upgrades" - every one of them picked up a copy (several of whom may not have bought one otherwise, and one who bought one out of principal but expects to give it as a gift). <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Congrats.gif" border
So I havno earlier versions. I 't played the game since last weekend, but when I booted it up this afternoon I discovered that all of the planets, ships, anamolies, etc were totally gone. They've been replaced by icons as if you were zoomed way out, but no matter how close you zoom or what angle you are viewing the map at, they stay invisible. I did notice that while spinning and flicking the camera wildly, a planet or two would pop into

The one thing I really want right now (aside from randomized civilizations/personalities) is a galactic senate leader - you know, like the one in Alpha Centauri. What bugs me about the current system is that you have no say on what issues get voted on. Every so often a new leader should get elected and if that happens to be the player, the player should get maybe 4 random options to choose from. Failing that, it would be nice if I could cont
As a side note: I'd be neat if planetary improvements interracted in some way. Ie-districts of the same type built next to each other give a slight bonus.
I do wish there were some more terraforming/colonization options for otherwise dead planets (habitation spheres you can drop on the planets surface to open up buildable areas - genesis devices) - but that's about the only party I really agree with there.
Again, I dont think any substantial changes need to be made to the game for multiplayer. PBEM can work virtually unchanged from the single player, for regular multiplayer you just need to add an adjustable turn timer in case someone is taking too long. If you can work a deal out to include ventrillo or teamspeak (or some kind of in-game voice chat) then the live turn-based games tend to solve the turn-time problems automatically (you're gonna get yelle
I just ordered it directly from Stardock.
Ok, I'm retarded guys. Just saw this while browsing through the Wiki: Do I have to have pre-ordered Galactic Civilizations II to get the collector's edition? No. Direct CD orders will be fulfilled with the collector's edition until we run out of stock which should last for a couple of months. After that, you are likely to get the regular edition. I'm ordering it as soon as I get home from school tonight.
I'm desperate here - I don't think I've ever had to go through this for a game before and it sucks. Are there any websites selling the CE, any retail chains that might be getting in some CE boxes as regular stock? Someone has got to be able to help me out here.
I went in to pick up my preorder from Gamestop today only to discover, to my horror, they only got the regular edition - not the collectors. I've had it preordered for months and it just happens to show up on my birthday - and it's the vanilla procrastinators version. So I just finished calling 30-some-odd stores in my area and nobody has the CE. Thing is, I want the box and techtree and stuff too - I know Stardock is giving the CE game content but I r
I just totally got screwed. I preordered my copy months ago from Gamestop and today I got the call that it was in. I go to pick up totally jazzed that it actually came in on birthday (turned 24 today) - and it's the regular edition. I cancelled my order and I'm currently panicking and trying calling around to find a CE. For me it's not just content - I want the box and stuff too. This is turning out to be a really crappy birthday.
Well it seems like the word of mouth for GalCiv2 is going very, very, very strong. I've talked a dozen people into ordering it online even though Gamestop has yet to get me my copy. Not only does the game seem to be really impressing a lot of jaded gamers who have come to expect mediocrity, the fact that you aren't punishing your customers by using starforce actually appears to driving sales. There's also the fact that you guys really work hard to sati
I see where you're coming from, but I think far too many people put too much emphasis on multiplayer "balance." I generally play "cooperative" campaigns in games like CivIV, Diplomacy, Crusader Kings, etc - that is, me and one or two buddies versus the AI (usually with the difficulty jacked up). So long as we're using Teamspeak or Ventrilo, we're all perfectly happy to take our time and just enjoy the experience. Crusader Kings especially - it's VERY h
Checked my Gamestop today (Long Beach Town Center, Ca) and they still havn't recieved my preorder. It's bloody depressing.
I'd just settle for having a copy of the game in my hands. I've waited so long... so patiently...
I'm worried - I've been waiting for Gamestop to get my preorder since Tuesday (as of this evening, they still didn't have it) - and with my luck they'll end up getting the regular version. Well, I'm a freak when it comes to actually having the CE box. So, if I get screwed on this, will there be there any other way to get my hands on the CE?
I knew I should have supported Stardock and just ordered from the website. My Gamestop STILL hasn't recieved my copy. That's the last time I preorder anything at Gamestop.
My local Gamestop didn't get their shipment today either, I'm bloody heartbroken. I had a very long day at work and was looking forward to spending the evening with GalCiv2 like it was grandmas apple pie (god, grandma made a good apple pie). I should have known better - I should have just ordered straight from Stardock and I could be playing the game already. Serves me right. I should have known better.
I want the game so very much
Multiplayer, while nice, is not a given for me in a game like this. Because of how flexible the developers have the made the game as-is (playing any race, etc), I half expect a multiplayer add-on a year or so down the road. In the meantime, I'm sure I'll spend hundreds of hours conquering the galaxy again and again. Think of this period as time to get in some practice, so you don't humiliate yourself should a multiplayer expansion ever appear.
