I can't see any change in Tek since it's inception. I just checked the first issue, and it is almost exactly as it is now - it contains interviews with four skinners, and 3 other articles It keeps coming back to the gui olympics.... /me thinks that is the real issue here...

Hrm...I wouldn't call it a day just yet, there are far more positive opinions than negative, and the negative ones aren't exactly scathing, just people pointing out their opinions, which they are entitled to do. Take a look at the articles in this edition. Of the 7 articles, 1 is an interview with a current skin site owner, and there are 4 interviews with currently active skinners. Perhaps the impression that it's old guard related is because its created by some of the "old guard"? I mea
Indeed, kudos to the tek crew for contributing their spare-time to bring us an interesting read, for free...
http://www.skinnables.org/forum.php?post_id=357 Seems like Nullsoft and Stardock have something in common
ooh - I'm interested Skinnables.org is in no way hardcore - we aim to help budding developers in any small way we can, please feel free to drop by.
A wise man once said (not too long ago) "There are as many truths in this world as there are people..." I'd like to append this with "but sometimes there are MORE truths than people, dependant on who's garden you are in" What price good old honesty - from all gardens?.....
21) If someone disagrees with you, they should be pigeon-holed into a specific "group". This "group" should then be given a condascending name. You are then free to insult all members of this "group" - without giving relevance to any facts. If other members of this "group" react, all members of opposing "groups" are then obliged to ridicule said "group" - preferably with sarcasm. This whole process should be repeated until the whole "scene" is split into opposing "groups" who will eventually get
Im not going to get dragged into a debate with you about each individaul point Firestorm, I was simply answering a request, I mentioned several times that this was simply my point of view, and expect you to have yours. Nice to meet you too
Ugh - that was badly written......I really should have proof-read it.....
OK - it seems I'm damned if I do, damned if I don't. Here's my take on it (and remember - thats exactly what it is - MY take on it) Stardock used to monitor the internet, don't know if they still do, but they did. I don't just mean check out a few pages here and there, I mean _monitor_. Everywhere that Stardock is mentioned, someone will turn up, gauranteed - why? Is it really so important? There seems to be an obsession with statistics, facts, figures - the need to know everything. It'
Jafo - you seem to be misinterpreting what I am saying. "mysterious references", "often proffered as a secret justification" - wrong. I know of practices that I find distasteful, but this is not top secret, it's freely available to all - and I have only mentioned this once in a heated debate back at DA, not "often" as you claim. I did not "raise it again" - all I said in the above post was that I have an issue with Stardock's methods of selling/promoting their software, I did not claim to have c
I think the issue with Stardock isn't whether or not they sell their software, but how. Well, mine is anyhow - but I'm not getting into that here
I suppose it also comes down to what kind of app we're talking about. By definition, we are "tinkerers" - we like to change things, take them apart, see how they work, change them and rebuild them. This takes time, but it's our hobby - we make the time because we enjoy it. Our age doesn't come into it, people always make time for their hobby. The free vs not free (software) argument seems (to me) to be in peoples heads - there is no such argument, or at least, I haven't seen it. There's been
I appreciate your support Brad, but I'd like to say that calling me a "leading Hoverdesk themer" is doing an injustice to the real HvD themers. I have only ever created 2 HvD themes I also appreciate you apology JayG, but regarding the rest of your post, I'd be more than willing to compare my skins/wallpapers/themes/contributions to the "community", with your own...
I'd have to disagree (again). You're implying that anyone who appreciates freeware, is a teen - Im a 31 yr old, with a good job that allows me a few of life's luxuries. My time is precious, but so are my principles
Thanks - though I won't take all the credit, theres a few other cry babies involved too
"I don't see that happening all I see is a buncha cry babies trying to change something that will never change unless they use "their energies" to change it instead of crying about it!" I agree entirely Doreen, which is why I am doing something about it. For the last month or so, I have been "using my energies", (and spending my money), doing something about it. You will see the results very soon. I look forward to your participation <img src="http://images.stardock.com/images/smiles/sm
Hehe - thats a fine example of how things can be perceived according to your point of veiw If that's a subtle dig at me Paxx, I have nothing against commercial software, or people selling their skins on their private site, and have never said otherwise. I do, however, think that Joe Coder, sitting at home producing apps for the hell of it, is getting less and less credit/recognition, and hence, inc
The first man disembarks the train at the next stop and castegates everyone in Scotland for having black sheep. He then gets on the next return train home and tells everyone from his homeland that (gasp )Scotland have black sheep, which prompts them all to take a train to Scotland to tell the Scots that they shouldn't have black sheep, because they are different to their own. All hell breaks loose......First man returns home and tells all his friends how nasty and bad the Scots are. Civil War br

I'm not saying you're wrong Jafo, just that it could be interpreted in other ways, with a different bias. Anyone could have summarised these events with a favourable slant in their own direction. Anyhow, the matter seems to have been dropped, except here..... Re. neutral, Damn, I noticed that was wrong as soon as I posted - stupid me for thinking it might go un-noticed
Theres 3 possible versions of Jafo's "summary" - this version, the "free beer" version, and the nuetral version. I have yet to see the "free beer" or the nuetral version, but I have seen two instances of this version. Doesn't that tell you something? As has been said about Shoggot - I want the old Jafo back..... In fact, for Jafo, read "all the old skinz members who I hold in high esteem"....
Seems I may as well leave too, as "Sir" JayG doesn't seem to have any facts to backup his discrimination accusation.
OK JayG - would you like to point out where I've discriminated against an app that isn't free, simply because of the fact that it's not free? I'll be waiting....
OMG - you people calling shoggot self-righteous?! I think i've seen it all now - take a look around at yourselves. Just because we don't agree with your ideals, doesn't make us knuckle-dragging neanderthals. Im outta here now, I probably should'nt have ventured back anyhow, i should have learnt my lesson the first time. I'll leave you wholesome people in your sterile bubble of purity and goodness, and scuttle back to the seedy underbelly of the web with my misplaced, unorthodox ideals - and
