This is a great idea, imo.
Thanks, sakalava47. To be honest, I see this as a fan project, not a commercial enterprise; it would just be a quick fun thing to do, not something that I would expect would succeed in the current gaming market. (And in this vein, I'd like to try to come up with other FPS ideas as fan projects... sabotaging a Deep Child, maybe, with the amount of lava in the levels increasing as tim
I don't know if this should be a part of the main game, but I think it would be really cool to have a first person shooter with each race having unique abilities.
I've often thought that a survival horror game could be made in the Star Control universe. The player would be someone who had been kidnapped from an Earthling Cruiser that had been defeated in battle. She'd start in the sacrificial chamber on an Avenger-clas
So, is there any chance we'll get a September 2013 Star Control status report?
Dammit, that sounds amazing . Especially if some of those "features" include RPG elements. Because I've been hungry for some sci-fi RPG stuff, and that's much harder to come by than fantasy.
Or would Wallace Shawn make a better Druuge?
Imagine that some production company managed to make Star Control: The Movie , basing the plot on Star Control II (a.k.a. The Ur-Quan Masters ). What scenes do you think they should include, whether they were actually in the game or merely implied? (Or, if you have an idea for a scene that wasn't in the game at all, what would it be and why?) Whom do you think they should hire as voice actors for the various aliens or alien races? I'
You are definitely my type of people.
Thanks. :) And on further reflection, I kind of realized how grateful I would be for any new Star Control. I seriously wish you guys the best of everything. Judging by your Galactic Civilizations series, anyway, I don't think I'll have much to worry about. (Call it fan jitters or something.) I'm eager to hear what you guys come
Exception to my "prequels" rule above: Men In Black III . They offered, in that movie, a far better reason for the Men In Black to consider a candidate from the NYPD than anything I had ever come up with. It let me forgive them for Men In Black II . :) If you guys can do that with Star Control, it would be just as good (for my money) as a high-quality Star Control reboot.
Speaking as a fan and as an executive producer, the elephant in the room is Star Control 3. I don't want to treat it as canon. But at the same time, we can't just make a product called Star Control 3 anymore than someone could make a new Master of Orion 3.
Why not? I don't think I'm alone in fandom in pretending that sucky sequels simply don't exist . (I mean, it's wei
Hm. Supox_sandwich, do you think you'd enjoy playing melee in 3D with your monitor serving as the bridge viewscreen -- from a first-person point of view, in other words? This would require a bit of programming "cleverness" to remain true to Star Control , since there are certain advantages to being able to see the rest of the field with certain weapons. Those difficulties might be lessened or resolved with instrumentation, though.
Let me add Kerbal Space Program to the mix. If you don't knuckle down and learn some actual rocket science, you're not going to get very far. The plus side is that you get to see some hilarious explosions along the way. (Hilarious if you don't mind laughing at your own stupidity, that is.)
I think your insight is dead on -- strategy could be really interesting if done in a way that makes it feel like there are consequences for the player's decisions. Especially if there's a plot, and the direction it takes depends on the strategy you've chosen, either directly (the Umgah revolt after forty weeks of game time if you don't build a DNA lab in their space) or indirectly (if you haven't built enough starships in Sector Y by the time the Giflinnor invade, th
I'm unspeakably excited to see this happen! Star Control 2 came out shortly after as I entered college; it quickly became an obsession. I stil consider it the best PC game ever made. I've been hoping for a worthwhile sequel since then, and when Atari seemed to be doing nothing with the IP for years, I'd kind of lost hope. Thank you so much for picking up the ball and running with it! I'll be eagerly anticipating release, wishi
