Joeuser Blacklist ratings.

Joeuser Blacklist ratings.

My opinion

If you have 0 to 2 people on your blacklist you are at least open to dissenting views.

3 to 5 you are starting to exhibit "liberal closed mind" a dread disease that allows no opinion but your own or your clones to count.

6 to 8 you should be writing for yourself because you have not a clue how to play in the sandbox with others.

9 and 10 Go to the shrink and find out why you are such an ass.

11 or more. Why are you here idiot child?

Reply By: Gideon MacLeishPosted: Sunday, August 21, 2005Actually, I have three on my current blacklist. In my defense, however, one is permanent simply as a defense against their possible recurrence under the same ISP...and it's nothing about intolerance, but about deliberate deception.Otherwise, my blacklist is far from permanent, and never about intolerance but rather various other reasons. I'm neither fair nor balanced, and I sometimes have to put duct tape over the mouths of a few who haven't figured that out, among other reasons

awww gid yer a sweety pie man,, fair and balanced? uh oh fox news strikes again. heh heh.

It doesn't have to have anything to do with opinions, mm. There are some people who wander on and off the site that never really state their real opinion much. They are just here to troll and insult and play. You don't blacklist someone like JFJ because you don't like their opinions.

I only started blacklisting people permanently a couple of weeks ago, and after a lot of thought. Before I would just allow a day or two and take them back off, but like Brad said, after you have been here a while you see patterns.

I came to the conclusion that a permanent blacklisting is better than deleting people's posts. I won't mention names, but some people are simply not here to talk about things. I have 4 right now, at least half of which I believe to be alter-egos.

IMHO, the admins have the right to say who can and can't post. If they want to exile someone, it is their site. Well, since they give us the button, it is our blogs. If the admins exile someone and let them back, we aren't under any obligation to agree.

It's a power they give us, and I don't think there is anything wrong with using it. Some people are here to just to act up, and it is better than deleting their posts.

I had one, but he has been exiled.  It had nothing to do with dissenting opinions as I always welcome those (and even concede points at times).  This one just could not post on topic, but managed or tried to turn every discussion into a hate fest of racism and facism.

same with me lil bro....

I never blacklisted anyone just because of disagreements... you have to be a racist or attack me personally to get on my list.

I also approve of dissenting opinions, it's when I get called names while they are dissenting that gets to me.

I might in a moment of confusion stick a small splinter into you, but attack? never.

Sometimes it is ok for me to remove dated or less appropriate comments when updating or revising articles, in fact that even happened automatically in some cases when rechanneling a certain way. Still unblacklisted people whose one or 2 things do not even apply anymore because the article was updated (contents or pics) do have constant new chances of commenting, which is not bad in general. And I still need their "negative" feedback for improvements.

The individual I BLed is still commenting anonymously, I think. He is not endangering my thread, just making other peoples a bit longer. But he is less active and may have had to change hashes. BLing and viewing audience changing will never be perfect in my system, because I do want unregistered people in some sites. You could BL their hash even when they are anonymous. Sometimes that helps. Even some rather good people I know of have to cheat on hashes for monetary reasons. When they are grown up, you could treat em a bit differently. Yet when do grownups earn enough money? Some earn enough when minors, not all are rich when turning 18. For normal blacklisting decisions not related to software registration cheating but negative comment input, you do not have to mind about age anyway.

I will not be worried about a virtual train wreck as long as I am almost positive they are still active anonymously. Temporary BL seems best in general. But for me, that could take much longer than a couple of months in some cases. The damage some caused is my now always checking how long a site exists around here before making many comments or ratings. And my own sites are not old at all. Crazy.

But in big site complexes, I am willing to pay a price for the valuable experiences and more you get, at least here. There are so many good people specialized in so many good things (cars, religions, software, politics, cooking, humor, skinning...). And the viewpoints are coming from various parties in Australia, the U. K., Norway, the U. S., Israel, Germany, Canada just mentioning what I found in two months.

The longer I am into these things, the faster I know when I can afford to blacklist. If you can afford to run and think about one site only, your blacklist decision is harder, but you have more time for it. Stardock rejected my skins. No problem. They download fine elsewhere. Not all of them, but this was important and no subscrip was paid for, either. BLAM! Another site. The more sites I have to run at once (currently 4 in the very beginning, plus external posts), the less time I have to think twice about how to keep things running (again/temporarily, at least). Luckily the types we have in my mind are still exceptions around here (20 bls would not be much, 1000 private subdomains are in the first list I checked here, so that is a 1 : 50 ratio. Sounds bad in a small surrounding. Here that means you have 980 left over. Good enough for many, many purposes or just fun and relaxation, distraction.
