GC2 Beta: Controls and Hotkeys

A Mini-Instruction Manual for your Beta Experience

I know most of your are GC1 players, so most of this is already known...but I'll post it just in case.  Actually, alot of the 3d stuff is new, so hopefully my terminology isn't...well, wrong.  ;)

**Main Map Controls**

-When any Map Object is Selected (Planets, Stars, Ships, Anomalies)

  • Left Mouse Button: Select another object.  Click and Drag to move pan.
  • Hold Middle Mouse Button: Rotate around the current View.
  • Scroll Middle Mouse Button: Zoom In and Out of the Map. Hold Shift for Slower, more Precise Zooming.

-When a Players' Ship Is Selected

  • Right Mouse Button: Set Ship Destination.  Attack by setting another Race's ship as your destination.  Set a Colony Ship to Colonize A Planet By Right Clicking on the Planet.  Set a Transport to Invade by Right Clicking on an enemy planet.

**Mini Map Controls**

  • Left Click: Move Current Viewing Area of Main Map.
  • Right Click: Set Destination of Currently Selected Ship.
  • Scroll Middle Mouse Btn: Zoom in and Out.

** HotKeys **

  • F1-F3: Snap to three different Angular views of the main Map
  • F4: Snap to a present Overhead view of the main map (Most like GC1)

-When a Players' Ship Is Selected

  • D - Decommission Ship
  • T - Auto-Attack
  • S - Sector Sweep
  • TAB - Go To Next Available Ship with Moves.

This should be a good start for everyone.  If there are any control questions, just post here and I'll get you an answer ASAP (or a fellow player may be able to provide the answer).

Have fun!  ;)

How to do that if someone hasn't a middle mouse button?

Could you add the following map movement controls?
-Directional keys move view (i.e. hitting the up key should scroll the screen up relative to my view angle and such)
-Pushing my mouse to the edges of the screen should move my view in that direction (i.e. moving my mouse to the far right should move my view of the map right relative to my viewing angle)

The mouse one is the big one for me... it's just something I've grown so used to doing that not having it here was confusing at first.

Thanks,
-Z

Is it planned to have an option screen to customize what are doing keys and mouse?

Zoomba: Having the "mouse on edge of screen" scroll the map will definatly go in, but right now the arrow keys are used for controling the selected ships movement.

I'm not against this idea though, in fact I often times want to use the keyboard to scroll around the map.

Perhaps 'ASDW' for screen scrolling?

P.Phoenix: Not at the moment, but get enough demand for something like that and I'm sure it will make it in

Oh, and whatever you do, don't hit Ctrl-N to see if that GC1 key still works. CDT.
