Ongoing Windowblind Problems

Problems with More Programs Menu

I've actually posted this before but have as of yet found a fix. Since around version 4.2 (i think) I've been having graphical errors with the more programs menu mouseovers. Link If you check the photo you'll see what I mean. At first it was only showing up in a few blinds but now almost every new blind I download has this problem with the exception of Essorants blinds and a few others. I assume I'm the only one seeing this but I've unistalled-reinstalled multiple times and it still shows up. I've let it go because there are good blinds I can use, but I'd like to find a solution. I'm not sure if it's related, but I also have problems with the new alpha transparent start menus.

I'm using a Sony PCG-K23 laptop w/ 2.8Mhz Pent IV, 1 GB ram, onboard 64mb ATI Radeon IGP 345M
I run Windowblinds 4.50.044, Object Dock 1.11.009, IconX 1.00a.001, RightClick 1.00.001, Enhanced Dialog 0.81[b].002, Iconpackager 2.50h.087, DesktopX 3.00.040, & Sysmetrix 3.3.1

Can you name a couple of other skins that have the problem and a couple that don't cause the problem. I can do some investigating this evening and try to find any problems. I can't promise anything but I can try. Nothing comes to mind right now. I mean nothing comes to mind because I just woke up.

Nearly all of Mike Bryant's skins show this problem, Skinplant and Gizmo are still on my HD even tho I can't use them. Also the Project Onyx Jade from the Skinartistry site displays much like the Elsdee menu in the link in #1. There are very many that do, although most of the older skins don't.
Of the newer skins GT3 does not, Kuantum by Kol, my Decaf skin, none of Essorant's skins.
The strange part is that it's only the More Programs menu, although when I change skins the tabs in the Display Properties window usually show some artifacts or do not fully skin. If I come back to it later it looks fine.

This looks like a video driver bug.  I would upgrade your drivers if possible.  If not, try dropping hardware acceleration (display properties->appearance->advanced) one notch and rebooting.

I did look into it but found nothing of any significance. I was trying to post the other day to tell you but the site was not cooperating. My only suggestion would be to roll back to pre 4.2 (try 4.0) if you have the builds archived. See if it still has the problem.
Neil's suggestion sounds more like the culprit. Hope it works.

~This was the message I got after d/loading someones port( screen went white - then error message saying graphics driver needed updating - yet, after doing a driver update search, results stated that the driver was fine and was the most current match ) ..since then , I've reinstalled WB 5 or 6 times. Still having problems. (con't)

~I can only change blinds once or twice (when making changes in Skin studio, i need to change often) Now, after only 2 changes, blind reloads incorrectly..will look like the blind but reverts to old Xp style. When I try to reload through the display, error message that windows explorer needs to shut down...this prob is worse since reinstalling newest version a few days ago.

~The window blind update 4.51 build 201 seems to have fixed a few problems. The most I have to do now when I change blinds is go back to the WB config and click on " reload current skin " and all is well again.

Where did you get this version 4.51 build 201 of WB? I just downloaded the latest update available online and it is 4.5 build 1.85??

Is latest registered version, if yours is registered and you have StardockCentral it will give you this version.

Thanks for the help. I agree.....it looks like a driver bug. I have an onboard ATI card on a Sony Laptop and the ATI site says I have to use the Sony driver with it. I'm pretty sure it's the Sony driver so I dumped it for a bigger and badder Sony Laptop (17" screen 1920x1200) that has an actual video card. PROBLEM SOLVED.
