Altarian Prophecy (Beta) Bug Reports

Altarian Prophecy (Beta) Bug Reports

Please specify which version of the beta you are using. You will probably be told to upgrade if you are using an older version.

Please install and run SmartException from the free stuff tab in Stardock Central so that if the beta crashes, it will generate a report that you can send to me with your debug.err files and save games.

Please update the non-expansion part of Gal Civ if you haven't, but please note that your save games will be messed up because of the additional improvements.

I will want any save games that reproduce bugs, particularly crashes.  Save games in Altarian prophecy are only one file, no folders.  Go ahead and e-mail them to me along with a description of how to reproduce the bug.  You can still report the bug here, but I always take save games that reproduce the bug.

Please report typos in the typo thread.  String Not Found bugs are not typos.  When you see a string not found, send me your debug.err file before starting a new game.

Please give as much detail as possible when reporting bugs so that I can reproduce it more easily.

I am using 1.49N[rc].003

I was just playing and captured the star system in Mission 3. I think I should have ended there but the game carried on. So I destroyed the Korx completely. Still no end. So now I am playing culture wars witht the Alterians, which nice chaps though they are is boring (plus they have a head start on me because I was putting my energy into extinguishing the Korx).

Is this a bug, or am I doing something wrong?

What do you want me to do next ? I have saved the game.

Just had a strange problem, it occured twice, I'm not sure if I have it saved or not I will have to look.

The problem is, I have a system that is one system away from a system I was trying to convince to rebel and join me through influence. I decided to send some freighters their way but since (I think) there was only one space (diagonally) between them, the picture of the freighter would appear between the two worlds and flash and my turn would never end, perhaps because it was arriving and leaving and arriving in a loop? Not sure. I will look for a save in a little while.

The planets were like this, where each X is a empty space.

XXXXX
XXXOX
XXXXX
XOXXX

This is in the current version. Love the game by the way :)

Thanks,
-Jeff

In the game menu (reached by hitting ESCAPE while playing), I was unable to delete a campaigm save game. Deletes of non-campaign saves have always worked properly.

I just had the bug where nothing happens after capturing the planet in the 3rd campaign mission. I also went on and conquered everything...no dice. I saved the game and am sending it to you carielf as I speak.

Small bug in campaign: In the screen presenting themission where there is only Human vs. Torian, I see 'Team' with Altarians shown twice instead of nothing. How did altarians come to show here? Maybe a leftover from previous mission?

With the latest release candidate 2, I am still unable to see any text on the mission description/objectives/teams screen. The map does show up fine though.

Interestingly, I can go through the scenario editor, open the "unexpected coincidence" mission and the proper text is there but it still will not show up in game. This is also true if I create a scenario, the mission description I write does not show up on the screen with the map, mission description, objectives and teams.

I can't be the only one with this issue, can I? Could this just be a font color issue? My text box background on the mission description screen is black, could the text be black too and this is why I cannot see it? Any suggestions as to what could be going on here are appreciated.

I'm playing 1.49N[RC], and have come across a small graphical annoyance. In several of the Campaign missions I have turned Good and got the White interface. However there is a problem with the ship/group fleet/unfleet panel, although it displays its contents correctly, it has 2 top horizontal borders that cut into the panel. When this occurs the panel only displays either a Fleet or an Unfleet icon, not both.

Small bug, don't know if anyone else has mentioned this. After using my standard bribe to get the AIs up, I see in the Stats tab, Economy section, an amount of something like 4 Trillion drain on my economy per month, but it does not exist.

I am assuming that:

a) one of the starbases is NOT a resource starbase (and furthermore, I believe that only a resource starbase can be built next to a non-resource one and not the other way around), and that

b) the two (or more) starbases are in the same sector (the rule does not apply across sector boundries).

I haven't been paying attention. I'll let you know.

RE: a) none is a resource base
b) as far as it concerns my building: I'm mot allowed to build across sector boarders (within 3 parsec range)

Still not seeing text in Scenario description screen in either mission description, objectives or teams.

Also having problems with scenario editor and campaign editor. Unable to open existing campaigns or scenarios. Newly created scenarios do not show text in game either as mentioned above.

phephart, is this with existing maps or with ones that you created?

And this is with the latest version of the editors (that went up earlier this week)?

Hey, guys, sorry for being scarce.

Everyone here in the games division has been working on Political Machine because it's more time sensitive than AP.

The string not found for morality is because the strings it wants are supposed to be in Gal Civ's english.str, not AP's.  I could have put them in AP's english.str, but the .str files don't actually delete the old strings from memory, it just changes the reference to the newer one and I couldn't easily change this behaviour.   If we don't update Gal Civ before/when AP goes gold, I'll make sure that those strings go into AP's english.str.

The latest build should have fixed the problem where you couldn't get past mission 3, and the editors that went up shouldn't have problems saving on Windows 98/ME anymore.

I believe that colony ships ALWAYS get the bonuses - it's just that their bonus is very small (I believe that the bonuses are measured in percent, so 1% of essentially nothing is still next to nothing).
End of quote

Ability bonuses, yes. Starbases increase attack and defense in absolute numbers though. +1 is +1 is +1.

Certain defensive ships never recieve starbase attack boni (and all such ships have a base attack of 0), but every ship recieves the defense boni.

CariElf:

The missing text issue is with the existing campaign and all scenarios contained within and with any scenario I create with the scenario editor. It has nothing to do with the map editor as I have not tried to create any maps.

This is happening with the most current version of AP on stardock central. I have also tried deleting the entire GalCiv directory from my computer, clearing the SDC temporary file and then redownloading GalCiv and the latest AP (which btw is a pain in the butt when you only have a 56K modem :p ) and the lack of text on the scenario description screen is still there.

Morale is broken. I'm running campaign but have seen this in normal games as well.

I've searched the forums and noticed many posts of people complaining about morale. I firmly believe that morale is bugged in it's calculation. If I don't build any structures that increase morale for a while my morale slowly drops to 40-50. If I then build 1 15% structure my morale on that planet jumps to 100%. I don't think Morale is being calculated on save/load or end turn from scratch. Same thing happens if I build a galactic improvement that's +morale. It looks like it goes off morale from the previous and possibly incorrect cache'd copy. I can provide save game file that shows this. I've seen this happen in numerous games.

Another thing that doesn't work is trading trade goods. If I trade for "Ultra Spices" I should get a bonus to morale, I don't. There should also be a way to show what galactic trade goods and uniques that you've completed.

Actually, from what I can tell, the problem is this: morale as a racial ability doesn't work very well at a system until morale as a local ability exists. If you have a high racial Morale, it's entirely possible for a +1% local morale bonus to cause a net increase of +100% or more to morale.

See above. Trade goods do work, or at least most do.

I guess that it would be nice to have the detail about the eaxct formula for morale in the latest versions of Galciv. The sticky post in strategic forum is very instructive but correspond to version 1.00. So the exact value aren't the same:

From Frogboy post (4/10/2003):

If only 100 people lived on a class 15 planet, it would have 89% of them thinking you're doing okay.

Think of that as your base morale rating in GalCiv. Less than class 15 planets are just death traps anyway.

Class Bonus Morale
15 0 89%
16 7 96%
17 14 103%
18 21 110%
19 29 118%
20 36 125%
21 44 133%
22 51 140%
23 59 148%
24 67 156%
25 75 164%
26 84 173%

Getting people on the planet can tick them off.

Pop(b) Penalty
1 -32%
2 -63%
3 -95%
4 -126%
5 -158%
6 -190%
7 -221%
8 -253%
9 -285%
10 -316%

Then there's your tax rate penalty.
Tax Rate Penalty
10% -1%
20% -4%
30% -9%
40% -16%
50% -25%
60% -36%
70% -49%
80% -64%
90% -81%
100% -100%
End of quote

I can't make this thing work with the fact that at the beginning, a PQ 15 Earth, with 1 Billion people, taxes rate at 33%, has a morale of 100%.

Can't save maps. I have windows XP Pro Media Center. The save dialog comes up, type in a name and hit save. No file is created. In Recent Documents a .lnk shortcut is created, but the file never is.

Yes I am also getting this with some races. Drengin and the Altarians in my game.

One other small bug I find is when I click on the planet list. It seems to always start at the bottom of the list rather then the top. Not a real big issue. :)

I LOVE the beta so far great job at adding in all these excellent features. :D :CONGRAT: :HOT:

Tried creating a scenario file using the editor .. used "save as" and typed in a name, clicked "save" and it seemed to work .. but, the file is nowhere to be found. I used winXP search function to search all drives on my computer (in case it was saving it somewhere else)and the scenarios I create just vanish into thin air I guess because they dont save.

The issue isn't the bonuses themselves. Those work with a predictable pattern. It's that racial morale bonuses don't directly effect them, as I noted.

Local morale bonuses always work - racial morale only works if a local morale effect also exists.

My current theory, after some investigation: racial morale is actually a factor multiplied into local morale bonuses before they're applied. +50% racial morale means that that +20% morale improvement actually provides +30% morale.
