Altarian Prophecy (Beta) Bug Reports

Please specify which version of the beta you are using. You will probably be told to upgrade if you are using an older version.

Please install and run SmartException from the free stuff tab in Stardock Central so that if the beta crashes, it will generate a report that you can send to me with your debug.err files and save games.

Please update the non-expansion part of Gal Civ if you haven't, but please note that your save games will be messed up because of the additional improvements.

I will want any save games that reproduce bugs, particularly crashes.  Save games in Altarian prophecy are only one file, no folders.  Go ahead and e-mail them to me along with a description of how to reproduce the bug.  You can still report the bug here, but I always take save games that reproduce the bug.

Please report typos in the typo thread.  String Not Found bugs are not typos.  When you see a string not found, send me your debug.err file before starting a new game.

Please give as much detail as possible when reporting bugs so that I can reproduce it more easily.

We changed the file extensions for campaigns, scenarios, and maps.  The new extensions are

.GCCampaign
.GCMaps
.GCScenario

You should be able to just rename files to use them in AP if you've downloaded any from the library or created your own.

I don't know if this is a bug exactly, but I just played the first mission in the beta, and I defeated the Korx, but nothing happened. I assumed there supposed to be a victory screen or something.

KEmperor: by "nothing happened" do you mean that there was no cutscene?  Because we don't have any cutscenes for AP.  We just display the victory text on the end game screen.   Were you able to continue to the next mission?
No, thats just it. There was no victory text, no advancement to the next mission. Nothing. The game just continued like I hadn't won yet.

I got that when I played out a previously saved game even in the new version. However, when I managed to force the game to start from scratch then the victory condition was recognised and allowed me to move on to the next campaign scenario.

on submitting a game to the metaverse I have to press the submit button twice to return to the main menu.. (IE: there is no indication screen that the game has been submitted, however the mouse press check seems to still be in there to continue..)

Arrggh stupid thing. I cannot save a game! When I click the space to save, it clears it out, I click "enter" and I click save game, but it never saves >:(

try typing in a name for your save game... then pressing enter
LOL

I don't know if this a bug or not, but I just finished a game in version 1.49 and submited and it doesnot show up in my record. :notsure: :notsure:

I have the screen shot saved if you want me to send you both images.
I've tried thaty. I enter "2" for my savegame name and hit enter, and nothing.

Well don worry about Carielf, I lost the game, I just submited a second one and this time went thru whitout a problem, I dunno if someone has reported this already or not, but the Hero vessel when is in auto exploration and gets to the edge of the map, just sits there until you move it to another area. Also the ship the Stalker.... doesnot show the image when you try to build it.

KEmperor, do you still have the save game that doesn't recognize the end of the scenario? If you do, can you send it to me?

Anyone else having the problem with having to click on the submit button twice?

Renegade: it wasn't in the database, so it must have been something like a duplicate game ID.

Jeff, from the other thread:

Left click once on the New save game entry.
Type the name you want in the entry field at the top
Hit enter.
The new name should now be in the New Save game entry.
Click Save.

Note that campaign saves will save in a subfolder of the campaign directory, named the same as the campaign.

To continue a campaign, click on the Campaign button.  It should automatically pick your last save game to continue with.  If you want to change the save game it is using or reset the campaign, click the reset button and it will bring up a list of the save games for that campaign.

End of quote

I've always had to do that in 1.20. I haven't won yet in the beta.

I was just playing with the map editor...I plopped down a bunch of stars, then went to the planets menu and clicked "Randomize." I saved the map and loaded it into a game. I found three or four yellow stars with planets of no more than 12PQ. Seems odd...

CarElf do you have a clean set of files for the Stalker ship??? I can't get the graphic to show when I go to the planet screen to build it.
Clearly the saved game mechanism needs to be easier to do.

The Stalker ship isn't one of our ships.  It must be a mod.

When I hit the Menu-Button the game stops.

No CTD, it just does not do anything anymore.

That is only in the Free game.

I can use the Menu in the campaign-Mode.

Smart exception does not create an error since the program does not crash but seems to hang in an endless loop.

The only savegame I have is an autosave because I cannot save without the menu.
I also don't think that a savegame can be helpful since that happened everytime I tried.

If I was you, I would:

- check the menubutton::clicked() function
- seek a loop that may have a break criteria that never becomes true
- seek in a part of the function that only is run for non-campaign games

Here's the next Bug for you to fix:

Under Races/Status there is an Info-Field called Alignment.

It tells me "String not found" for the Torians.

Bad thing about that is that I started with Random Alignments for the AI-Races and now I have no way to tell weather if they are good, evil or neutral.

I think it's the Saintly string.  That's the one that was in the debug.err file that someone sent me.  I have it in my English.str, since the alignment strings are the only ones being reported missing, and there would be a few more if yours wasn't updated.

You can also create a quicksave by hitting ctrl-Q.  I'm not sure what would cause an endless loop by going to the menu, since it's not doing it for me.  Do you have any reports of missing gfx for the options screen, AIL.ST?

Cari, It still won't save. I follow the steps exactly, and it just doesn't add it to the saved games list.
