Altarian Prophecy (Beta) Bug Reports

Altarian Prophecy (Beta) Bug Reports

Please specify which version of the beta you are using. You will probably be told to upgrade if you are using an older version.

Please install and run SmartException from the free stuff tab in Stardock Central so that if the beta crashes, it will generate a report that you can send to me with your debug.err files and save games.

Please update the non-expansion part of Gal Civ if you haven't, but please note that your save games will be messed up because of the additional improvements.

I will want any save games that reproduce bugs, particularly crashes.  Save games in Altarian prophecy are only one file, no folders.  Go ahead and e-mail them to me along with a description of how to reproduce the bug.  You can still report the bug here, but I always take save games that reproduce the bug.

Please report typos in the typo thread.  String Not Found bugs are not typos.  When you see a string not found, send me your debug.err file before starting a new game.

Please give as much detail as possible when reporting bugs so that I can reproduce it more easily.

I understand how the saved works now. I have to pick "reset" and campaign menu to see my saves.

Hello. This might be mentioned before but...

Latest version (SD shows 1.49J[b].005) ignores the "Disable Initial Minors" Button setting in set up for free games. Unless that's meant to be "Enable Inital Minors" text label and on/set means they are Enabled? So far on all resets, the Carinoids have been either in my home sector or adjacent in 3 random starts.

Thanks!

Vertical scroll bar appears in Morale Events screen (on right side of text and choices box). It is on top of choice boxes, even though no scrolling is needed. (Version: 1.49J.005)

CTD I got a few minutes ago in the middle of the AP campaign scenerio 'Of the Mithrilar.' Integer Divide by Zero error just after I hit the turn button.

I have a few mods with negative boni from the attempt to create improvements with mixed boni and penalties by someone back around GC 1.04, if that might have something to do with it.

For the map editor....those of us without mouse wheels are sorta at a disadvantage...we can't zoom out!

Actually, if we don't have a mouse wheel, any scrolling or incrementing for transports...becomes downright silly... 1...2...3...

Map Editor:

Suggestions:
* Verticle and Horizontal scroll bars.
* Zoom in/out on the View menu.
* Add View Menu. :)

Feature request: add wonders & trade goods built to "current events" on the diplo->report page - I'm finding it increasingly hard to remember who built what with so many players running around. Remembering that something was built so I don't rush-tech to it late game is key :-)

Feature request: add scroll bars to the tech screen, I borrowed a wheel mouse to scroll quickly and it's a world of difference :-P not everyone is using wheel mice (or support depressed 3rd button quick up/down scrolling ala firebird)

You can also create a quicksave by hitting ctrl-Q

Good news, having to Autosave every other turn slows the game down a lot. So I'll start a campaign game, go to the Menu there and turn Autosaving higher or off.

I'll check if it's only for Saintly. I was able to see my own Alignment (Neutral).

No reports for missing gfx. I also don't get why the Menu works when I call it from the campaign but denies to work when I call it from a normal game.

My last debug.err entry is from a CTD in 1.20 and sounds:
ASSERT ERROR in file C:\Projects\pear\SOURCE\MEMMAN.CPP at line 581.

PS: I noticed the same thing as Star Pilot. Either disable Minors does not work or the button does the opposite of what i think it does. I'll have a closer look at this now where I know, how to save without the menu.

Okay, I tested it and have seen: The Disable Minors in the Options does nothing.

However there's a workaround: Make a scenario where you disable the minors. This works as it should.

To the Alignments and the "String not found" bug.

It displays my own alignment for everything but Saintly.

But it only displays the aliens alignment when they are neutral! I tested it with the default alignments.

Nobody else playing the game and reporting bugs?

Here's another one.

It's not actually a new bug. I think it was around from 1.0 but now with the increased number of Pure Evil Civs (with the default settings i have to play to know who is what) this bug has become more meaningful.

I speak about the money bug. When you are in the reds then 2 things happen: Under Graphs the money graph shows a very high value instead of a negative one.

Well, can live with that but the other one's:
The AIs also seem to think you have a lot of money and ask for tributes of 1000 and more while you are broke.
When you are low on money but in the positives the AI will ask for Techs, Star Systems or declare war rightout. So it is ridiculous that they ask for 1000 BC when you already are in debt.
Note that you cannot ask the AI for money if it is in debt!

Disable minors does not work. With either on or off setting. This has caused me tons of aggravation while trying to play the smaller "balanced" maps. And here's why... I'm getting what seems to be all the starting minors in the game on my "share" of the colonizable worlds. So on the Medium map, where at a dead run you'd get 6 or 7, I'm getting 3... as all the others are minors.

On Tiny and Small, there isn't a colonizable world near me when I start, but the AI still gets its share.

I know that this is just luck of the draw... but the Minors are disrupting the "balance" greatly on smaller "balanced" maps. Please, either fix it so minors are assigned starting worlds (so they will always be there) in the map editor allowing for the creation of real "balanced" or fix the disable minor race. Either would allow for players to then play real balanced maps.

Thanks for all the hard work! And the improvements! So far, other then the Minors messing up the designed balanced maps, I'm a happy camper. I've had a few other issues, but they weren't reproducable.

Keep up the great work! I'm off to *not* conquer the universe a few more times today. ;)

Odd behavior ??? And new suggestion on specific game behavior ---

I just tried to "Purchase" Diplomatic Translators (speed buy production). And I was able to do so. For some reason, I had it in my head that the player could not speed rush/purchase wonders or trade goods. Of course, I could be very wrong and just having one of those days.

Anyways, it put me in about 200 turns of debt doing so (even though I could have made it in 5 turns from the start), so I do think that if you are allowed to speed buy, you should get a confirmation if the balance after purchase is going to put you under the -500 BC line.

Thanks for the game!

As far as I know you've always been able too, I've done it before anyways.

I have a problem whit the Map Editor, when we dont have a Mouse wheel... The map editor work realy bad... how can you make a map when you see 2 squares... could you add a Keyboard command to fix this problem.

Thanks

UI Bug:

Ships entering same square as a stacked/fleeted group on autopilot with move left asks/allows User to give direction.

Problem: Ship does not appear in the stacked list (for grouping, for instance). Little display at bottom of screen does not show the ship travelling into the same space as the fleet. As moving ship, the ship should not only retain input focus, but display/control focus.

Starpilot.. I suppose that you'll also call this a cheesy tactic.... LOL ... I've already pointed out about pourchacing things and going into debit... the AI players start demanding growing amounts of tribute from you as they smell your blood and that you are going under... This isn't a bug... as you've always been able to put yourself into debit be it for anything except tech research as that is the only thing that you can't speed up by purchacing.. This is simply a fact of the game and a way in which the AI's can reap their revenge on us human players..

so in short .. the answer is no.. this is not a bug.. its a death trap for the non informed

UI Gripe: the drath are too close in colour to the drengin, I can't tell them apart on the rankings graphs - this makes it tough when you're trying to bribe wars... maybe make the drath colour a lighter orange or a brown?
The AI continues to put funds into research when it got all techs. I made a screenshot of that:

http://civ2-forum.gamigo.de/attachment.php?s=&postid=286049

He had researched Final-Frontier some time ago. As you can see he is still spending 1830 bc/turn into tech. The field where normally stands what tech he is researching is empty.

You can also see the "String not found"-Bug on the Screenshot.

Another thing:
You see my treasury on the Screenshot? I disabled the starting-minors by making a scenario without them (that works @Star Pilot). But still, the later spawned Minors make so ridiculously much money and when you declare war on them, destroy their fleet and then make peace they give you like 5000bc for 50 turns.

Hitting the leave button on the diplomacy screen doesn't close any child windows that you have open, so if you're in the middle of fomenting war and you close the window you get interesting results.

I thought I posted this yesterday, anyway, is there an autosave in the AP Campaign? I finished the first scenario but there was no autosave.

@Robert: Click on Campaign, then Restore. The Saves (inculding autosaves) for the campaign do not save in the normal Savegame folder...

By the way: I think it would be helpful if the Map/Scenario/Campaign-Programes would not start in the "My Files" directory but there where I need to save the files to be able to open them in Galciv.
The campaign Editor looks for *.gcs-Files but the extension is *.gcscenario
However, that's not as important as the gameplay-bugs I reported.

Ok,
I've now played the entire campaign over the weekend (all 9 scenarios) and here are my comments.

NO crashes!!!! Not a single one with nearly 20 hours of playing!

Save game: This definitely needs work. When I try to save a game nothing happens. My save game does not appear in the list of saved games and I cannot use load game from within a scenario to load a game.

Intro text. For each scenario you get the "8 years since" story plot. Can this be changed within the campaign as it is a bit silly every scenario?

Home Planets in scenarios 6,7,8 and 9 are on the wrong planets in the system! You start on the first planet in the list as oppossed to the habitable planet. Needs to be corrected.

Team window box: On the start-up wondow of each scenario the team window display looks wrong. The first column shows your team but the second column is misplaced.

Victory window: I suggest adding some text explaining that the next scenario is now available. Click on the continue campaign to access it. Took me a while to figure this out initially.

That's about it. Very good. Leaves a few questions unanswered at the end, but I assume this is as planned.

Paul.
