Bug Reports for 1.13

Bug Reports for 1.13

Please post bug reports here for version 1.13.

If you are asked to send a save game, I will need both the .sav file and the folder with the same name.  Zipping them usually works best.

My e-mail is [email protected].

Please give detailed explanations on how to reproduce bugs.  More information is better than less.

If people start out reading this thread, there will be less repeat bug reports, and it will be easier for everyone to read this thread.

Thanks.

In my latest game, I have been trying to micromanage my research spending to minimize any waste. So I have been flipping between the economics page the research page to adjust my spending sliders. Unfortunately, the economic spending is not set correctly after moving the sliders, but only after refreshing the page. Thus I can decrease my research by one percent and check that I can still complete my research in one turn. It looks ok, but if I go to the economics page again and then back to the research page it will now take two turns to complete. When you watch the actual spending numbers, you can see them update after forcing a refresh on the economics page.

So to micromanage my research correctly I have to my spending change, switch off the economics page, switch back to the economics page, and then finally look at the research page to see the correct effect of my change.

maybe this has already been discussed, but in the Minor Races windows Scottlingas have one symbol, if I click on it to trade, the symbol is different, same thing with the I-League, I have a saved game on this one

first time I've seen the invisible ship, disappeared from the building list - time to go to sleep, I guess

2 bugs so far, sorry if they've already been posted, is that as soon as an alien race colonizes a new star this becomes their new capitol, I thought this was supposed to stay the same star each time.

Second one is that after I've traded something with another race to get a trade good such as aphrodisiac it does not show up in my list of goods to trade.

I've also noticed the AI doesn't need to set autopilot when they take a wormhole into space that's out of their range, but this could either be a game play feature or maybe they really were in their space and I didn't realize.

Aliens can change their capitols, humans can't.

You can't trade a trade good you got from someone else, the race that builds it has a monopoly. You get the benefit but can't trade it yourself.

I'm not really sure what you mean by this.  The AI ships will never be marked autopilot.  That's a human distinction.

I didn't see this in the thread anywhere but please excuse me if I missed it.
I am near the end of my first game and I have experienced the following throughout the game: if I attack another civ's ships or a space shark then all is well and works fine but if another civ or a space shark attacks one of my ships or stations then the game hangs as if it is having trouble with the animation.
Bringing up the task manager (shows game is running)and closing it again lets the game continue without a CTD and the game continues normally afterwards (until the next attack on one of my ships).

Just played a game where it let me build a starbase on top of two drengin battleships, got a saved game if you would like a copy :)

Hmm, interesting.  Generally when people have problems with the ship battles, it's because of the sound.  Try updating your sound drivers, and video too for good measure.  If you still have problems, run dxdiag and e-mail the report to me at [email protected].

There wasn't a battle, I was at peace with them but my constructors on autopilotmove into the same square as the battleships and it let me build my starbase.
Sound and Vid drivers are up to date......I think :D

Heh.  Do you have a save game right before it happened? If so, please send it to me at [email protected].  I'll need both the .sav file and the folder with the same name.

I don't remember if this was mentionned before. In my current game I'm having a CTD if I click in the altarians "total routes" button, in the stats page. I've never noticed this before, but I cannot be sure that I clicked in that button before :notsure: . It works fine for the other races.
By the way, I reloaded the autosave, tried again, and still had the CTD.

Maybe the altarians have some secret encryption protocols that disrupts other races sensors ;p

These are bugs which I discovered in my latest game which was submitted to the metaverse about an hour ago.

1. Torians colonized a class 14 planet. It had 15M people on it.

2. Influence seemed to stop working after a while. I think my influence was around +250% and a huge portion of the Torians and a few of the Dregnin flipped to me. After that, it just stopped. I could have easily flipped the entire galaxy (domino effect) but it simply stopped. It started again after I loaded my saved game, and attacked the Yor. Some of their planets started flipping. I just realized that perhaps there's a maximum number of planets that can be flipped among a single race?

3. On the trade screen, all of my trade partners were minor races. After reloading my game, I went back to the trade screen and all the planets belonging to minor races turned to blue (human color).

4. When conquering a planet that had an inhabited planet as the first planet (closest orbit to sun? first ring around the sun?), I would go to the Details tab on the planet screen and there would be no planetary improvements. They're called Projects in Galciv? It would only happen to the first system. I recall seeing this a lot or always among systems that were culturally flipped. I believe it happened with systems which were invaded as well.

5. Major races continuously build colony ships late in the game. I don't understand why, since no one ever destroys an enemy colony, they only conquer them.

6. When submitting to the metaverse, I get no indication that my submission was successful. It just hangs there doing nothing. After two minutes, I hit "No Thanks", then I check the metaverse, and my submission is there.

7. I got an event that the Altarian government is doing something. Change in values? I don't remember. The Altarians were extinct at that point.

Wish list:

1. Some way to bombard a system without invading it. This would allow for the destruction of colonies.

What I meant was when one of my survey ships enters a wormhole and comes out into space someplace out of its range it has to put the crew into hibernation and set autopilot for my nearest sector. Once I had an Arcean survey ship make contact with me in my backyard, and their single planet was on the other side of the map. So I would think that it was out of range, the only way I could think of it getting there that early in the game would be through a wormhole. But it didn't to go into hibernation and go back to its territory but instead it started going after my anomylies and changing course to do so. But maybe I'm mistaken, after all my other 2 bug reports weren't bugs.

happens all the time. it is a strategic decision for them.

they are building resistance inprovements, like propoganda center
When conquering a planet . . . no planetary improvements

we call this scortched earth, and are pretty sure it is an AI strategy as well. It seems to happen in circumstances where there is a lot of influence pressure, perhaps they have lost planets to influence already, and they are behind in influence in that sector.
Major races continuously build colony ships late in the game
End of quote

so do some players, in case they want to colonize low PQ planets for strategic reasons. In fact there was a recent thread on this issue.

Some of what you reported are bugs, and have been reported before. Most of what you are seeing is an AI that is surprisingly sophisticated.

I know for sure that under domestic policy---stats---misc the filters icons here will be greyed out but the information is present. Click on the filter icon the information goes away and the filter icon will remain greyed out, click again and the filter icon will be on and the data will re-appear. I have a save game that does this. I think I have seen it on other races screens also when I go to check espionage information. I have latest video drivers.

Missing "Technology Summary" for Xeno Propaganda:

When the droid comes up to show the new tech Xeno Propaganda has no text beyond the tirle in the box to the right on the screen. This is also missing on the tech screen.

Didn't see it mentioned before so here goes:

Result : Crash
Cause : click on planet screen when button says next and should say done
When: Odd times but quite often
Fix : use F1 instead
Note: save prior and reload after and then repeat brings you to planet screen with done not next and click completes correctly.

Cari, *is* this an AI strategy? I remember someone from Stardock (don't remember who) said a while back that they weren't sure if it was a bug or a strategy and that they would ask around.

Sirian reported a game where the Altarians systematically destroyed improvements, one by one, for no reason he could see (no cultural pressure or anything). Planets with no improvements had low morale and flipped to the I-League. The Altarians completely self-destructed this way, giving up all their worlds. So whether or not it's a strategy, it is bugged (though Sirian's experience is obviously a rare one, otherwise you'd have heard more about it).

Typo: when allocating bonus points during setup, text for trade routes says "trade rout" (darn those cowardly merchants, anyway!)

Bug: on the minimap toward the end of a gigantic map game, the Terran systems disappeared. All the alien systems (major and minor) remained. I believe this was true with both pop and mfg buttons selected. (I have saved games that I can check for the problem.)

Nastavnik, please send me the save game. I'll need both the .sav file and the corresponding folder.

Aviator99 UK, do you know how you're getting it so that it has the next button when it should say done?

Vincible: Yes.

Hermann the Lombard: if you have a save game that reproduces it, please send it to me so that I can look into it.

I don't know if this has been talked about somewhere and I missed it but my terror stars had 9/1 moves after I loaded a saved game. Restarting it didn't fix the problem, and as these stars were grouped with dreadnaughts the bug would let me move the star 9 spaces, and THEN the dreadnaughts would shoot off in the direction of the autopilot (at full moves). Next turn the dreds would be back WITH the terror star.

I had 2 stars and both had the 9/1 moves. I built 2 more and they were 1/1.

Since it was the end of the game it came in handy to finish off those last hold out planets in the corners, but definately a bug.

I've got 1.13 ... The the United Planets met, and voted to trade 5 techs among all races. The game crashed out at this point.

Upon reloadng from the last autosave, I found that I still did not have control of the senate (had lost it two months previously... Dammit, I'm a war-monger, and wars cost money! Get over), but I found that my ships max hit points had all been given my War-Party Control of Senate bonus. If I click on "senate bonuses" in the Domestic Policy window, I get the message: "Because your political party does not control the senate, we will receive the following penalties: Hit Points +50" ... Also, my *normal* hit points for a frigate are 43-49 (depending on where the ship was built) and even with my war party bonus, it seems that they max out at 72 no matter what types of bonuses and tech I've researched.

As a side comment -- It's really not easy to keep citizens happy during wartime. Yeah, I know, they're not SUPPOSED to be happy, but we're good guys vanquishing evil here! Come on, band together and send your sons off for the good of te Terran Alliance!

SerialPeacemaker, please see the thread Tech Sharing UP Issues in 1.13 for instructions on how to fix the crash with the UP until we can get another build up.

Also, if you have a save game demonstrating the bonus bugs, please send it to me at [email protected].  I'll need both the .sav file and the folder with the same name as the .sav file.

Okay, if scorched earth is a strategy it's definitely bugged in that only the innermost inhabited planet in any star system is ever scorched. It's been like this for as long as I can remember.

If I may make a comment, this is a remarkably passive response to cultural pressure. Why did you choose to have the AI respond this way, as opposed to, say, declaring war and blowing up every culture starbase they could find?
