Bug Reports for 1.13

Bug Reports for 1.13

Please post bug reports here for version 1.13.

If you are asked to send a save game, I will need both the .sav file and the folder with the same name.  Zipping them usually works best.

My e-mail is [email protected].

Please give detailed explanations on how to reproduce bugs.  More information is better than less.

If people start out reading this thread, there will be less repeat bug reports, and it will be easier for everyone to read this thread.

Thanks.

The invisible ship bug probably won't be fixed CariElf said they would probably have to spend a few weeks working on nothing but that bug to fix it and because of that it's not worth it and since it can be fixed by saving and reloading I would agree, they should work on other things if it would take that long. The expansion for example would probably be delayed by working on that bug.

So go for it, since only about 20 people preordered and 3/4 of the rest will not be admitted to buy it. So who cares about the expansion if you can get rid of the invisible ship bug?

I opened GCTech.TECH in Galciv/Data and edited the Tech_Requirement for Large Scale Building and Xeno Intimidation from "HyperWarp" to "_1DPhasing". Works properly now.

Why not just updating the 1.13 patch?

Do you still have the saving game bug? This gives, after reloading a savegame again the movementpoints and checks the culture bombing and the attitude of other races towards you. Very nasty bonus for those who cheat by reloading to get a wonder first.

Obviously I would prefer that too but not sure when Stardock can fix it.

It's a quick fix for those who want it.

Reloading a game returns you movement points? Just tried it. It doesn't. Or did I misread you.

Yes, reloading to rush-beat another AI to a wonder/TG is an exploit but I don't see how that can be fixed, even if we wanted to.

Yes, the teleanth crystal is supposed to be for the weakest race.  I'll have to check into that.

As far as a design to let people see what is necessary to gain a trade...you want something other than the text turning green when the AI will accept it?

1D Phasing should be the tech requirement for Large Scale Building and Xeno Intimidation, according to my older versions of GCTech.TECH.  We're working on making the input files not dependent on ID numbers, so the find and replace for those two techs must have screwed up.  I fixed my copy here.

Hurley is the only person who has reported it crashing following the bug. Hurley, I'm sorry that I missed your e-mail. I didn't intentionally ignore it.  I do get a lot of e-mail, but I don't know what happened with this one.  One of the major problems with fixing this bug is just reproducing it.  So far, it takes someone actually sitting at a machine playing the game straight for at least an hour.  If I can figure out how to make Gal Civ reproduce it on its own without needing any user input, I could have it running on my laptop while working on other stuff on my desktop pc.

I'll see if I can reproduce the tech revolution bug.  Seems to me that I've heard that reported before.  I remember looking into it.

I don't have Cari's version, but I've made a zipped version of the repaired file available from my website.

http://sirian.warpcore.org/galciv/gc113-fix.zip

Back up your current version before installing that one, just to be safe.

The file belongs in:

.\Galactic Civilizations\Data\

Anyone is welcome to grab the file. Or you can make the change yourself, too, only takes a few moments.

I had a Battleship and a Combat Transport in a fleet. I tried to move it into the next sector and it said it was out of range. But when I broke up the fleet I could move both ships into that sector. I had just researched Gravity Mastering that turn, so it was out of range last turn but shouldn't have been this turn.

Combat Transport has a larger range then the Battleship.

But when I un-fleeted them they both could go into the sector.

Interestingly, the races in my game seem to have no trouble with Large Scale Building even though Hyper Warp does has not been researched by anybody.

I would guess that this is because the tech tree is hard-coded into the AI?

I often see a major AI with Basic Environment while still lacking Medical Theory. The AI seems to not care too much about the tech tree :)

If I try an build a starbase on a resource but with another, non-resource starbase within 3 parsecs I am refused.

That would be possible through trade, JaxomCA. I've often skip the rather useless starting theory techs myself.

In one specific case, I very much doubt it was a traded tech. The offending major was stuck in the NE corner of the map and had to go through my territory to reach anybody else. Although I am not sure where is survey ship was, maybe it got teleported and allowed them to make contact with somebody else.

Issue - CTD
as well as TechRevolution 02.UPISSUE causing a CTD TechRevolution01.UPISSUE is as well. it too is causing a CTD. deleted all up issues except 01 and it crashes on every try. best guess the tech type "Trade Sharing" does not work in this version.

mods site has zip file containing instructions to sort both issues out.

use this link to get there ->http://files.galciv.org

or for the zip only use this->http://files.galciv.org/v1.13.zip

this zip will sort out the Tech Tree problem and stop a major CTD

I'm having mid-turn CTD about 30 turns into a new game.

Every time.

Once just found the Torians, twice still alone.

Game unplayable at current patch level.

Oh, did I mention a total reinstall didn't fix the problem? (to a new directory, no less)

Thanks Ray. Fixed it.

Thanks CariElf (for confirming that the tree wasn't restructured in this release).

You still haven't fixed the "ships stop 1 square short of a rally point" bug. If you have a bunch of ships going to the same rally point, with the "auto-fleet" order, and the rally point destination is not visible onscreen when the ship arrives, the ship will sometimes stop one square short. When the rally point is visible onscreen when the ship arrives, it always seems to work properly. I usually have ships waiting in "guard" mode at the rally point, but I don't think that matters.

Multiple culture starbases in the same sector still have a multiplicative effect, rather than an additive effect.

Can a minor race get the telenanth event? Is this a bug or a feature? I just had the Alexians get this event.

Bill, you are only partly correct. I had private correspondence with Stardock that did include some of those messages. To be more exact, it didn't include the "waste your own time" but it certainly did include the "must be a problem with your machine". In addition another CTD that I had was never fixed and no explanation other than 'must be something on your machine" avoidance was offerred. My polite email asking the latest status of second bug last month to cari was very much ignored. I don't have to "save/reload" I have to save/shutdown machine/restart/reload about every 2-3 hours when playing on gigantic to not have the bug & subsequent CTD.If you check my profile you will note a move to tiny that is very much driven by the bug.So I would ask you be a touch more sensitive in your posts. Sorry about that, but I've had a relationship with StarDock all the way back to GalCiv version 1.0 on OS/2 and have always participated in their discussions both in forums and one on one with Brad, and NOT ONCE have I ever gotten the impression that they were other than completely customer oriented and giving a 200% effort.

I apologize for jumping down your throat like that. And thanks for being so diplomatic in your reply.

Yes, like "what would you offer for this?" or "what can I give you for that" It would be nice to choose whether you want to make them happy or skin them for every possible BC

Leonards_Papa -- the scripting for the page requires a reasonably current version of IE, not netscape. to quote, try left-square-bracket "quote" right-square-bracket, then left-square-bracket slash "quote" right-square-bracket (I think)

Peter Weisberg -- fleeting and un-fleeting has many more problems than that. You can actually get a terror star to move 25 and an excalibut to move 50 in a kind of sling-shot, with a little practice. I basically don't use mixed fleets for that reason.

JaxomCA -- they often trade or spy for techs
