What Customization stuff do you use that we don't have?

What Customization stuff do you use that we don't have?

Large expansion of galleries coming...

We've been thinking that we should just add a bunch of new sections. Let them see how they do and the ones that do well would continue to be highlighted in the default gallery list and the others would still exist but not show up by default.

So what sections do you think we shoudl have? I was thinking of small things even.  Misc. Icons.  Not everyone has full icon packages. What about adding a Misc. icons area for people who want to upload a few icons here and there.  The Misc. Icons could have sub-sections for Avatars and Buddy icons and OS X icons and the like.  We would need a volunteer who would be in charge of such a section to help go out and get authors (Mac icon artists, etc. to come out and submit their work).

But tell us, what do you customize on your computer that you find yourself having to go elsewhere for.  Don't feel the need to be gentle. Let's be open and honest here. Tough love. ;) !FROGCARE!

What I miss from the old days is Desktop Architect.

I still use it. I needed it really bad for after I upgraded to XP the icons were really far off.
Windows sounds

Yes, I really do agree. There's a reason why I got Plus!.

I misunderstand that statement I guess. I use iconpackager.

Download Accelerator, because the default skin was made using Skin Studio.

One program I use for customization that is not from Stardock is Holiday Lights by Tiger Tech. It is a great program, and the first customization program I ever bought.

I think together they make a great looking desktop. I think Stardock is great too, and I like being part of such a friendly and helpful community. I also have Style XP which I do not use much anymore since I got Object Desktop. The only thing I like better about Style XP is the majority of logon screens have the "Welcome" and "Shutting down" dialogue. When the logons do not have that they just look like wallpaper.

Custom sounds - definitely, with a couple of considerations... One you've already brought up - a good packaging system - perhaps available as a bundle with CursorXP or something.. The other - a very clear policy on copyright in regards to sampled sounds.. I can just imagine that people are going to be putting up all kinds of samples that they don't own the rights to - a lot like the wallpapers section, actually .. To get good original sounds, a bit of promotion might need to be done outside the normal skinning community, as good sound artists aren't necessarily hanging out at the graphic artist sites where you're more likely to find skinners.

Love the variety already available, but I've also been hoping to see a custom sounds section some time.

Regarding the above quote, the first thing I think of for custom computer sounds is "movie quotes". It was my understanding that if they're free, they aren't violating copyright laws. Is that wrong??

If movie quotes are a go, can you use the .wav format? Pre-made packages are awesome, but single .wav's are pretty simple to integrate...I don't have much room to talk considering I'm a total novice , but windows makes integrating sounds pretty straight forward I think.

Haven't totally read ever entry, so if this has been mentioned, sorry.

I know we have a Pocketblinds section (which doesn't play well with WM2003 - I know about the updated efforts) and a dashboard section, but I would love to see more general PocketPC stuff. Why not have a section for basic themes (.tsk files) and/or IcBar/Wisbar skins? I have made quite a few and would love to share them with PPC users here. Just a thought. Perhaps with Pocketblinds getting an update I can convert them to that.

I'm somewhat late here (nearly 6 months), but yeah, definitely Mozilla and Trillian skins, custom sounds and icons
I note Fuzzy Logic's reference to Desktop Architect and wonder if Windowblinds could be modified to support custom sounds as did D.A., which applies the entire desktop from a theme package: with included walls, sounds, cursors, icons, etc. It's just an idea, but maybe Stardock could play with it to test its feasability without making other components of O.D. obsolete. Icons with custom sounds would also brighten one's desktop experience, you know, sounds to compliment the icon appearance. A wider variety of wallpaper styles would be most welcome as well, particularly ones with surrealistic fantasy themes.
As for mobile phone ring tones-Nah!!!! Yeah, I know, Ive previously got up on my moral high horse about threads that unfairly discriminate or exclude (and I know I'll deservedly cop some flak here), but I don't own a mobile phone We don't need that section when other service providers have it. Yep, it's the pot calling kettles black, but I'm just feeling wikkid right now

Holiday Lights by Tiger Tech

Bah. I've tried that piece of crap, but it is just my own opinion....
