WinCustomize needs you!

LOTS of them

Early next year we are going to be creating multiple tiers of moderators.

For instance, we want to seperate forum moderators from skinning moderators.  The job of a particular forum moderator would be to keep their section (and sub-sections) reasonably on-topic as well as try to find interesting things to talk about.

These moderators would also be in charge of articles of the same category.  These are people who would write/post articles about OS Customization, Personal Computing, Tutorials, etc. that either they write or found on the net. These wouldn't necessarily be news posts but rather be article posts.  I posted a couple of articles tonight that show the kinds of articles we would be looking at.

So for starters we would want someone who would be in charge of OS Customization, someone in charge of General, and someone in charge of Personal Computing.  They would write articles and forum posts on these topics, make sure other topics were appropriate.  We generally shy away from being very strict on posting (i.e. we don't want to be riding people's every post, we just want to make sure the site remains a pleasant place to visit).

As these areas become mroe successful, we would then have sub-moderators who woudl be in charge of things like PersonalComputer->Hardware and PersonalComputer->Windows Software and so forth.

So who would be interested in this?

I'll recommend a couple of folks for the jobs, not sure if they would be interested or not....

Personal Computing or General... Hy_Rolr
He's the heart and soul of the news section over at Skinartistry. A sampling of his articles is here http://skinartistry.com/index.php?m=headlines He's written many more of the same caliber at the old SA site which are now lost I believe.

OS Customization... TasT
The articles he's written here are pretty impressive.

What type of hours are we talking about here? What days or nights? I'd try for the general forum to keep things from getting ..... to nasty. Maybe.

Being a mouse-potato, my availability is 24/7, with the exception of fridge breaks and random episodes of dozing on my keyboard. Let me know if ya need a hand.

..As far as moderation, I'd say I'd be beest suited for general moderation [eg: wallpapers, etc].

Great idea infact. I will help you whenver you people want.
Just one question: will the mods of sub-forum have autonomy or will they be reportable to the mod of main section?

I'll toss my hat into the ring here too..

Being in AU, I'd be able to assist when others perhaps could not. I'm nearly always here, (just ask anyone in irc #stardock, hopefully there's a few well-known's there who would vouch for me )

I'd perhaps be able to help out on the general forums (and some other area's) during the times when you folks in the U.S.A are asleep.

Cheers
WrecklessEric

I would love to help out. I would rather take on a role in the forums in any sections. Just let me know.

Unless I've misread Frogboy's article...he's looking for forum moderators who would also write articles in their particular forum....not skin moderators.

We're fine on skin moderators. What we're looking for are people to help get the forums and articles areas going.

Hmm...I'd like to be a skin moderator, but unfortunately I dont think I could contribute enough to be a decent board moderator. (at least not anymore with the spam-control code turned on...... )

The best place for anyone to start would be to write some articles or interesting forum posts. It is better to do, than say you can do - gets you more noticed

I want to help, where can I apply?

I'd love to help at Support, it would be an extension on my assistance over at #SDCentral on the Stardock IRC.

I think I would be really helpful in moderating WC News.

WOM, hmm is not one of the volenteer openings.
LOL

j/k

Back to me:
I would like to try that out. I am already pushing the Art and Skin Report, I have some articles in the works for specific skins that came out )Old School and New School) and I would like to start high lighting user pages (got the idea from Frogboy).

In fact I already have a few user pages I want to high light arleady
Essorant
Hippy
Fuzzy
gef
Xav73

Those are articles in the works. Plus there maybe a few interviews to go along with the user page high lights.

I would love to help out any way that I can, but I don't think this is the best way for me to help. I am not so much of an article poster, but a commenter. If there is anything I can do by commenting or offering some light support for OD+ (which is the only thing I really feel comfortable offering any support for whatsoever) just say the word .

Don't know about my ability, but am willing to help in any way for this site.

Okay so here is where we're at:

We need to implement more moderator functions into the site. Right now things are still quite primitive.

Moderators would be in charge of enforcing written rules.  Generally, we want to be very light handed. That is, unless someone is clearly over the line we wouldn't moderate or say anything negative. No one wants to feel like "big brother" is watching.

The other thing the moderator would do is help promote and get their particular channel or topic popular.

Channels that would be available:

1) General

2) OS Customization

3) Personal Computing

4) Internet

As those channels became popular, positions would open for moderators of topics within channels (OS Customization: WindowBlinds).  But for now we just need those 4.  So writing posts, responding to posts, would be part of what would be involved.  Finding News elsewhere and posting it in your channel (I've been doing that quite a bit this weekend) would be part of it.

The title would be Channel Wizop as it would entail both the Articles and Forums areas of the site. There is a fine line difference between the two with Forums being a bit more designed with the idea of other people responding whereas articles don't need anyone to comment on them for them to be useful.
