I'm pretty damned sensitive to bright colors on monitor, and the new scheme keeps giving me headaches when I browse wincustomize. I can't wait for theme support, then I can switch to darker theme.

- On the old site the most recent comment on a skin was on top. This new site puts the recent comments on the bottom and only shows a certain number of comments per page, so again you have to click on a next page to view/read the last comment given.

WOM agrees with Apoc.

Also it seems that the MSGBD doesn't seem to advance without refreshing.

Once the kinks are ironed out, I think you'll like the new site much better.

I also think the personal site themes will return in time. But it's a matter of priority, the basic site functionality has to get nailed down first. The performance improved, etc.

The Old WinCustomize.com, the one you liked so much, didn't have most of what you liked about it when it first went up. And the features that got added were taped on and taped on to the point where it couldn't be scaled any more.

There's some conveniences missing that will surely be back shortly. But there's also a lot more good stuff in that amke the site much more enjoyable for most people, especially new people.

This site really NEEDS new and darker theme. It's pretty hard for me to browse this site with bright blue and white contrasts. I keep getting those headaches.

I seem to find myself coming to this site about once a week now as opposed to two or three times a day. I think it's hideous and I miss the third column.

The over all Top Author list on the old site (as unessential as it looks) it came handy at times. I liked the way every time I saw a new author I was able to view his/her entire library by clicking on the name.

Isn't that what the user sites are for? I think it should have 2 links. One to your user site and another to your gallery.

Yeah, but why go thru all the extra clicking? Isn’t the purpose of the new site to be easier to navigate and more user friendly? I thought the general idea of the new site was to have everything the old site had, plus all the new features and sections. If a new author who lets say works only with icons uploads to the site, his/her name will only appear on the icons section, which means a user will have to check the icon library, then click on his name to go to his page, and then click again on his gallery to view all his work. The old site you had to click once to do this.

But Apoc, he will also be able to click to see his comprehensive stats, click his about page and sign his guestbook, click his articles page and see all the articles. And that's just on the user pages! There are a lot of features above clicking once to see his gallery, you seem like you're forgetting about all that. The sight does have a bit of extra clicks here and there, but it's obviously necessary with all the new features that are here, that werent on the old site. If the idea is bigger and better, then this site is definately both. Just try giving it some time to grow on you, while Stardock gets the kinks worked out.

Humans by nature are always opposed to change. Get over it. WinCustomize has always been about change, or did you like the original windows XP. I thought a site that caters to the innovative spirit wouldn't have such a big bunch of whiners dedicated to the old.

Everyone here had better get used to the new site cause it obviously aint goin nowhere.

Heres one tear for all you people who aren't willing to get on with the new

AllmightyPete ....people are entitled to lament the passing of the old....particularly those who have spent so much of their time with the old WC. [ignore formatting....using Firefox] ...It's the comments regarding what will be most vehemently missed that prompts additions/improvements with the new. Between what we have now and what is yet to come...Wincustomize.com will be definitely better than the old. Just accept the pains of re-birth, that's all... [still hate these smilies]

That is true Hus, but that will be on his options and choices. What I'm referring to is any other users that want to have access to that particular author's gallery. Don’t forget that if that author's name appears only on the icon section, then his name will be invisible to anyone that doesn’t directly visit that particular section. The old site had that list on all pages and it was visible at all times.

Not me, I change my clothes every day (some times twice a day)

There's nothing to get over as WC is indeed about new innovations and YES I like the original XP. As a matter of fact, I still use it from time to time)

Well that is a matter of opinion and I will keep mine about you to my self.

Yeah, we are all aware of that Sherlock but as users and contributors of this site we are entitled to express our point of view and give our suggestions and feedback.

I just realized that Paul. You was faster than me on the submit button. (Yeah, I cant get use to this smilies) I also noticed that the comments dont have a time stamp as the other MB

Just remember, the old WinCustomize lacked most of the features you guys are missing for most of its history.

The features you desire are on the schedule. This new site is only 5 days old, the conveniences and little touches will come in time.

BTW, I did want to respond to some of AP's comments:

1) In most places we will be changing it so that it will show the comments when you click on the skin. The reason it's off now is a performance issue.

2) We wont' be going back to showing all the skins an author made in a single swoop. It was a database nightmare.  Some skin authors, particularly the more popular ones, have hundreds of skins. That's simply too hard on the server.  Right now it displays 25 skins at a time which seems pretty reasonable to us.

3) Has already been addressed in Friday's update. (the nav bar is now at the bottom as well)

4) We agree this is a good feature (which sections are displayed). Right now we don't have this because we are concentrating on site performance.

The same is true about personal themes. Getting the site to be very fast in its performance is our top priority.  Once we are satisified that the site is running very VERY fast we can then look at adding more per user customization options (such features toss out all the caching).  But these things will be back.

You want dark themes, We'll have dark themes. You want to pick which sections you see, you'll have that too. But right now we just can't do it. We're focused on making the site fast and stable.

5) Search already works. Just use articles. it's the same thing under the covers. We'll add a "Forums" category but it's cosmetic as it will do the same thing as the articles.

6) We will be making it so that if you click on a given other's profiles you will be able to view authors skins. It will look the same as the My Skins tab but for that author.

Thanks Frogboy for clearing some of my comments. I realize that for the site to perform better you need to sacrifice some feautures. I was just hoping they could be added in some sort of way. But I'm glad to know that you are working on adding some of the other feautures.

2) Since not all skins will be displayed on an author's list. Is there any way to dispaly the total counts as on the old site?

Someone STILL needs to add the feature about the threads going to the end or the last post made or where you left off - It's a pain to scroll everytime I want to read a thread - especially a BIG one.

Yes, Kona. We know.  But we only have so many people to work on this.  The new site was launched last Tuesday. The first few days it was basically a race just to keep the site up.

There are people who can't download skins. People who can't upload skins. There are many basic features that are still being worked through. Those are going to take precedence.

Frogboy, just another issue to add to the check list;

- When clicking on a link provided by an author to view another skin (e.g. wallpaper, bootskin, etc) it links to the entire section and not the specific skin.

- When updating a skin/theme, it throws it back to moderation. It used to update immediately unless the 'reset date' box was checked.

I,too, liked the way we could customize the old site with a choice of themes. I like the new site's theme though and the new site's layout - seems cleaner and not as "cluttered" as the old site. Even though the new site's skin is not a "stark" white, it is a little too bright for me.
