Yea, I'm going to miss this site too.

But I'm not going to miss its slowness. Or it's excessive complexity.  We've all gotten used to it but the current site is a nightmware for new users. Links everywhere for things that most users don't know or care about.

And sure, the top authors and top downloads show on the main page here, but on the new site skinners get much more celebration. The top authors on a per section basis show up when you go to the library.

Go to the Litestep section here and the to authors ar ethe same as every page.

Go to th elitestep section on the new site http://www2.wincustomize.com/Skins.aspx?LibID=6 and you see the top authors of just the litestep section (Jafo #2

The current site doesn't have any concept of tutorials.  New site will have tutorials on a per section basis.

Old site had no concept of letting non-skinners participate. If you were't a skinner, you had very limited means to contributing. Now, we have top article writers, top tutorial writers, top website advocates, etc.

And for those who just want to visit skins and theme,s the site is much simpler, much cleaner.

Let's say you just want WindowBlinds skins. Which is simpler? (check the library views)

or

The holiday themes and universal metal themes and such will come in time. We had to coe up with a new look first and then look ta adding different themes that would change the site during the course of the year.

When is it going to be faster? The two sites are equally slow now.
The holiday themes and universal metal themes and such will come in time.

Yay!

The new site will have themes that only the admins can change. Like a Christmas theme or some other holiday. However, we do not have those themes created at this time. So you probably will not see them for awhile.

I too will miss the site themes. Maybe one day we will get them to return when we figure out a better way to implement them.

T-Man basically we will be limited to the color schemes the admins choose?... ...***uses his mind melding powers to get the admins to pick a darker color scheme**(but actually just gives him self a headache)... ....ok ok ok i will recolor it my self...**starts coloring screen with crayons**if these things melt im guna be maaaaddd...grr....

i think that the old wincustomize skin section is simpler and easier on the eyes... but then again, thats my preference.

So far I would have to decscribe it as "generically bulky".

I understand keeping it simple for new users, but would it be possible sometime in the future to create an option for some of us to use sort of an "advanced" version of the site? Maybe a combination of this one and the new?

So, what about those of us who want to keep the same theme all the time instead of having someone else decide what we'll use each day? Not that you guys would be chagning that often, but, you get the point right? (I just have to be a pain in the butt). Although, for a while here it seemed a different theme every couple of days back when I was using the default theme.

The new WinCustomize will be like 99.9999% of other sites where the people who run the site decide how it looks.

This is being done for performance reasons. The more people who use it, the more it can be cached.

Someday we hope to add per user themes for subscribers but that's not on the horizon at this time.

For me, as long as it is on the horizon that the site themes will be added then I am cool.

I got the christmas theme working for me!!!

Ok, I know by that you simply mean that the admins will be running it, and not the users. Really, quite understandable.

Unfortunatley, it reads like you mean that this site will be just like 99.9999% of the other sites on the web. period.

/me runs away now

It read that way to me too.. but I know that is not what he is saying

Nice couch Sylva
Hey, I just thought of an idea!
Let wincustomize have a sub domain with different website styles. that way an admin controls it while we still get to choose what we like!

so it could be christmas.wincustomize.com
or
universalmetal.wincustomize.com

I think that would get confused with the personal pages.
no confusion!!!! I demand it!

besides, who here is called christmas or universal?
Well, maybe it would get a little mixed up I guess...

No I mean we'll be like 99.999% of sites in the sense that we are going to switch to a PHP based site in which the template is randomly taken from various sites. One day it'll look like google, the next Hotmail.

Generic is the goal!

Hmmm...so we'll rename it 'Pot-Luck Central.com'....or  www.incognito.com ....
Or maybe not....that one's taken....
so basically .. every time i log in, il think i went to the wrong site? great .. im confused enough as it is..now this .. ...

we could rename it "Guess the site . org"

well, we will see. I am already getting used to the new site colors. it is pretty bright but its still cool.

Although I am looking forward to using the new site exclusively, I'll miss this old layout. Goodbye old wincustomize. Hello new and improved wincustomize!
I will miss the way the forums work here at the old site

My short term memory is questionable and I like that I don't have to go through a whole thread again to figure out what I already read and didn't read. The old site takes care of that for me

not to knock the artist who did the default graphics but i expect more from a site that deals with skins. I love minimalist UIs but i just dont think the new graphics live up to expectations. It could still have been super clean but have some style.

I’m on the same boat as those with the site's template. The brighter the better.... NOT!
One of my favorite and unique features of the old site was the cool way each user could 'customize' the site's template.
A few other things are:
The old site will open a new window with the comment history of a skin when click on the skin's link. This new site opens a window with the shot of the skin and description and then you have to click on comments to view them (not too friendly for those with slow connections)
The old site will display the entire list of skins by category when click 'My Skins'. This new site displays only a partial list of the user skins. You have to click on 'next' to continue viewing the list.(another hang time problem for slow connection) The list doesn’t display the total over all counts as on the old site. I have to pull my calculator to add them up (bummer)
The message board on the old site had a 'return to message board' and 'go to top' link. This new site you have to scroll all the way up to the top if you want to view another thread.
Also, we were able to look up a topic/thread on the message board by typing on the search box. This new site doesn’t have that.
The old site had the feature where you could choose what libraries were showed and the 'view skins with a (X) rating and above' option.
The over all Top Author list on the old site (as unessential as it looks) it came handy at times. I liked the way every time I saw a new author I was able to view his/her entire library by clicking on the name.

You people have done a good job with the new site, but in my opinion, there were things taken off that made the site a little better to use.

I want my MTV...... err, I mean, my old WC

DITTO.... with #47.... too much clicking....my finger's sore
Reply #49 Top
I just had to say...GEEZzzz with the bright colors!
I say the darker the better...my eyes can't take this for too long. I spend way too much time online, looking over the site to put up with bright colors to long...
Please, who ever handles the site colors, tone it down, way down!
Thanks

DITTO with post 47. I agree completely. Also I would like to add that when you post you have to scroll all the way to the bottom to see your post. Most annoying. Also the "edit" function seems to work but when used you have to put up with a bunch of site code.
