Win XP SP2 Incompatibilities

I have the entire Object Desktop Suite (including WB) and installed SP2 yesterday...NO PROBLEMS!
I did have to patch Nero, but that was it. Must be something else wrong...did you submit a bug report?

As far as Bootskin (on the microsoft list off offending apps), uninstall it...then edit the boot.ini file removing the /kernel section, reboot and the run the SP2 upgrade. After the install and reboots are complete reinstall bootskin and you are all set.

I haven't installed SP2 yet, but I'm thinking it might be helpful to just disable programs like WB, DX, etc that do things with the interface and reboot without them loading up. Install SP2 then reboot and turn all the programs back on to load on startup.

I don't know if it matters, but I will be doing it that way.

I've heard enough problems with this S(Serious)P(Problems)2 service pack that I won't be installing it any time soon.

No problems here. I installed SP2, Then I defragged and cleared out the Prefetch folder..everything is running Peachy

Webgizmos, it is not the SP that is problematic but rather the resident applications that are now incompatable. Remember when XP first came out? hundreds of applications had to be patched to work with XP...the SP is almost a complete rewrite of the XP code (just about 100M shy of the origional CD Size ) so one can expect the same.

Wait and watch Microsoft's application incomatability list grow on their web site...after a few weeks go for it.

Vetto, indeed, and even worst, some applications never worked on XP. Even some hardware.  I had a video capture card that refused to work after XP. No patch from the manufacturer, only a new XP-compatible new product that you had to buy.  Never did. I removed the card and said to myself: [beep] them!

Not going to risk having anything like that happen to me again. I'm gonna hold off as long as I can.  Especially so that I don't see the point of this SP. If I can hold off until the release of Longhorn, I'll be a happy camper.

Vetto...Thats what I intend on doing. And I'm sure on it's own the SP2 update is probably ok. But since it doesn't play well with the other children it won't be allowed in the house.

As it is now my PC works just fine without this unruly child messing things up. Until, or should I say, if/when they fix the bugs I might think about it. But until then I don't see any reason to install it. For one thing, I "pay" for WindowBlinds, as well as other stardock products...not to mention the ton of other apps I have installed on my PC, and I certainly don't want some free update thats going to render my paid for apps inoperable. I'm not quite the geek yet and I don't really feel like playing guessing games as to which app is screwed up and which ones aren't.

I also went over their "Top 10 reasons to install SP2" and didn't find anything that stood out or motivated me to install it. Some of the features they speak of sound ok, but the trade off isn't worth it. I guess we'll see over time.

Thinks Vetto & GhoS for the great feedback on SP2.I found An app. that will delay SP2 from downloading by it self if you have auto. update turned on and it is from Microsoft because they know theres problems . I installed the SP (but I am a "what the heck" kind of guy ) although I agree that the top 10 reasons are not very motivating.
I just want to let you guys know that with it installed all my Stardock Apps are running fine with one exception...DX. This isnt a SP2 problem though, it quit working before the upgrade.

Anyone else have SP2 installed and can verify the Object Desktop Suite still works? Didnt I read here on WC that they were testing the apps against the SP and were going to post a news article (on the main page) about the results? Admin?

I am sure after a while Microsoft will get all there little ducky`s in a row and I will try SP2 again. I thought it would take a freight train to stop my computer, I`m using a full gig of ram behind the AMD Athalon 3400+ processor, but that does`nt make much difference if there is another problem I might have in my setup

Vetto, I have SP2 installed as well as OD suite of apps. Appears all working. Did see a problem using Tiggz's Widget "K-Display" and Sysmetrix. When midnight comes, my Sysmetrix stopped and sent me a "runtime error 97, can't call object when object .......". Happened two days in a row, so stopped using Sysmetrix and sent email to Xymantix about it. I think it's a SP2 problem/caused error as it never happened in SP1. Secondly, used K-Display. At midnight tonight, the DAY OF THE WEEK display changed but the DATE did not and still hasn't (now 2:30 a.m.). Think that's also SP2 caused. Rainlendar is in use and the date changed normally with it but, I don't think it's a script based/ask Windows type program but, I ain't no programmer, so.......Just assuming SP2 is causing the incompatiblilities as it does with my Norton Anti-Virus Automatic Update (Symantec is supposed to be fixing that????).

I just got off tech support for sp2..All of my proggys and OD worked fine.. However my wireless laptop card would not connect to the internet...I actually had to uninstall it and the microsoft wireless utillity then use the instal new hardware manually to get it to work.. Now since my wireless card and basestation are microsoft I dont understand why it was not seemless integration...Sloppy enginering probably..

Yes the security center also messed with my Norton System works..I had to disable the firewall in microsoft to get it to play nice with norton...

i installed sp2 without a glitch... i did disable all od programs before installing though, if people are having problems i suggest that you do this too, then reload them up afterwards.

i don't see any real difference, although the new popup blocker works like a charm, and ie has now begun to block activex controls...

You know, with all this update talk, I thought they also updated the Luna style too. I don't see anyone putting up screenshots of the style. Does it include a 4th style?

I'll wait to install the Serious Problems 2 (SP2) update. Probably a really, really, long time.

I have the latest build of sysmetrix and no problem...and have watched it roll past midnight many nights

Me 2 although it's more like 6 seconds than a split second. I was wondering whether there's any solution to that?
