Missing DLC translations, maybe after latest 1.7 update
I'm not sure if the latest 1.7 update broke it, or the fact that I also bought and installed the DLC at the same time, but ever since I updated the game and had the DLC installed, I have many missing translations.
It seems all the old vanilla SCO translations work just fine but all the DLC translations fail. In the mission log and inventory and popups etc. instead of a human readable english message I only see something like: "Sub_Objective_HelpMukayFishColony".
The audio messages do work correctly.
I noticed a Game\Error_Thread00.txt file which is full of things like:
Warning:
D:\Perforce_Workspaces\BuildMP_SCOMain\Libs\UI\Src\UI_TranslationManager.cpp Line: 186
Missing translation table entry for key "Sub_Objective_HelpMukayFishColony"
There were also just a few errors in Game\SYSTEM_ASSERT_Thread00.txt, but that seemed unrelated:
drawGroupRecord FAILED at File: D:\Perforce_Workspaces\BuildMP_SCOMain\Apps\StarControl\Source\Planet\PlanetClutterManager.cpp, Line: 889
drawGroupRecord && drawGroupRecord->pDrawGroup FAILED at File: D:\Perforce_Workspaces\BuildMP_SCOMain\Apps\StarControl\Source\Planet\PlanetClutterManager.cpp, Line: 890
drawGroupRecord && drawGroupRecord->pDrawGroup && drawGroupRecord->pDrawGroup->GetLogicalData() FAILED at File: D:\Perforce_Workspaces\BuildMP_SCOMain\Apps\StarControl\Source\Planet\PlanetClutterManager.cpp, Line: 891
I play via GOG, in English.
I had originally installed the game way back in 2020 or so and it still worked just fine last week.
Then I bought the DLC, and tried to install it but that was also a funky process. I couldn't tell if it went ok. I think it also updated game (as the update game arrow in the gog game list is now grayed out), but not sure in what order it installed the update and the DLC.
I tried the GOG -> SCO -> Manage Installation -> Verify / Repair option, but not sure if it actually changed anything.
That took a while so I got some coffee, when I came back I think it was done.
I tried again just in case, for a long time it only shows Updating 0%, if I mouseover I get a tiny popup while it is processing, showing checking files, then downloading, then installing, and then just disappears without any feedback.
What can I do to fix it?
Would uninstalling and reinstalling help? I guess that would have the same result as the verify / repair, but maybe it helps?
I'm happy to supply any log files or dig into the filesystem if that helps.
I couldn't find any translation files anywhere, but SCO has 34063 files and 591 folders so I might have missed it.
