Is anybody else getting tired of the glossy glass aqua look?

Ever since Mac OS X it hasn't let up. It is so over done.

Yes....these 'fads' happen....

I've managed to mostly avoid using the look, but shiny stuff is just too good looking to fade away...at least the globe icons are dying off.

try some of essorant's skins. I think they buck the trend you are refering to

, yep, around 2000 when the whole aqua thing started to begin with.

I do like Mac OS X 10.3 type glassy plastic style, not overly done like previous versions.

It will always be the same, when something new comes on the scene and many people will like it.... it will get milked to death.

Look at Hooge fonts, only several people used it, now its everywhere.

Quite surprised you started this thread, being a Aqua fan jarget.

I agree to a point, although the Aqua look to the eyes has so much depth to it and makes objects look realistic. I remember a year and a half ago or so folks were saying the same thing, but here we are today using the Aqua look still.
Until the "next" style I guess we'll have to tolerate it, but I think we'll always have it around.

The effects are not so much a bother as much as the same constant theme over and over again.

For instance, I do like graphite themes, and I also really like Alluminum Alloy which VDF is porting (faster, FASTER! ), and ITunes is nice now and then. But over all, there must be Ten or so different Aqua skins that are the same dang thing over and over again...

Mixing it up would be nice, of course a really good Graphite Aqua which was WB-XP complete would be a great addition...

anyway...

I like some of them but there's still enough variety around from which to choose so one isn't saturated.

VooDooFreak is porting Aluminum Alloy? Oh that is cool news!! (Three cheers for VDF!!)

Yup but if you are refering to my screenshot on my profile, well that's old and it's been there for months. I'm just burnt out on the look. I can't say I hate it because I don't. It just seems alot of skins are coming out with some type of glossy glass effect a la Aqua OS X. I'm talking mostly Windowblinds skins. The icons I've seen the late do have glossy effects but they don't remind me of OS X like the Windowblinds skins.

Just my Quarterly Rant.

It's like any other effect, really. As people say regarding special effects in movies, if you go "Wow, cool effect!!" then it was a failure. I don't doubt people could use glassy textures to great success, but glassy textures do not a decent item make.

Nor does ripping out a few hundred commercial icons and glass-ifying them. Now, as always, people are way more concerned with jazzing up something old than coming up with something new.

I dunno, I like glassy blobby stuff
I'd take that over the "LongHorn" look anyday!
Yeah.... We get to look forward to that one for awhile

guess it's just a matter of personal preference. I like the glossy shiny look because it adds to the three dimensional effect of the skin. But then, I'm a child of the lucite generation. shiny is new, new is good see thru shiny is even better.

Hmm not really tired of it, but I'm using a wood theme now.

The color masking support is so rare.

id like to see more stuff like TSF's executive suite. a real world look with the gloss used to add depth, but not so glossy it overpowers the skin..give the skins shape not just square and glossy all over ...ive seen many winamp skins but the ones that impress me the most are the odd shaped ones that look like sum futuristic toy i must have ...*gimme* gimme*

I like a glossy and glass look for windowblinds. Only problem with the mac look for me is when the start button is a mac logo.

Wat ees thees glossy look you all speek ov?
I yam not fameeleear weeth eet......

It really depends on how the glossy look was done, really..
The white-to-transparent gradient on top style IS getting rather old, but I really don't mind the shiny look if it was done well, like in the crystal icons.

heh that is another one that is getting milked to much, and the OS ain't even out yet! It was nice for its time when not many seen Plex or Slate but now everybody and their granny has it, get's rather sickening for me now.

Now iTunes skins, seems like everyone has made one based on it. Don't get me wrong iTunes looks really nice, but not when you have 100 variants of it :o

I'm going to scream if one more "new" Aqua Office X pack hit the dock icons. https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?searchtext=office&sort=updatedate&order=Descending&library=29

I still like the look ok and use it sometimes but blah. There was an Aqua-ish WB I really liked, Cryogenic, but I guess it's gone from the library.

Cryogenic

thats Alluminum Alloy, which VDF is doing a port of with full permission, btw

AH I guess that would explain why it's "missing"

Well I'm really batting 1000 today now aren't I?!
