Known issues

While we appreciate all feedback, please remember that we offer no official support for beta \ preview \ developer channel versions of Windows. If you report issues while in any of those early release channels, you should not expect them to be addressed unless it still exists in a retail version of Windows.

  • A Steam version will be released after Groupy 2 has been released at Stardock.com proper (date tbd).

Groupy still has the issue where the blue translucent window is not dismissed properly. Also grouping windows via Shift+drag does not work at all while using WindowFX. Turning on WindowFX restores that functionality.

Also an extra .Lnk entry in the saved groups folder is created.

Extra menu item

I also can't get it to add new windows via shift+drag most times. It shows the drop target window but after release it does nothing. I'm going to try a clean to see if that is the issue.

EDIT:

No a clean install did not fix it. It appears that a new blank link is created when adding a new window and resaving the group. The blank .lnk file will open the correct group where as the original test group will open before it was resaved. it also appears to crash explorer occasionally.

EDIT:

It appears to create a new link each time you re-save a group.

Everything I was wishing for has been fixed or added to this version release.

Thank you!

Installing Groupy 2 over 1.5 is causing all sorts of problems for me...

-Settings in config not being saved / changing.

-Tabs beings applied to all applications on mouse hover.

-Delayed opening of tabs after opening explorer window.

-Settings in config not being saved / changing.

-Tabs beings applied to all applications on mouse hover.

-Delayed opening of tabs after opening explorer window.

Uninstall and reboot and then reinstall and see if that helps.

Tabs showing on mouse over on all apps is normal unless you disable the option for showing a bar on ungrouped apps on the first page in the configuration window.

Purged and reinstalled and things are back to normal.

Also noticed,

"Check for updates automatically" button keeps changing to "On" every time I open the config settings.

EDIT: Fixed by adding "AllowAutoUpdateCheck" string to registry.

I was able to repro this and have created an internal ticket for it.

Thanks for the report.

It's a pretty simple fix, Groupy isn't creating the "AllowAutoUpdateCheck" string in the registry.

Groupy could improve how it interacts with Windows's virtual desktop feature. I have a very large monitor and like to display a group of windows on all desktops.

In order to do that I have a groupy-ed group of applications with "Show this window on all desktops" activated in the virtual desktop screen. This ensures that the group (and all apps in it) are always visible on all virtual desktops.

If I add a new app to the group I'd love if groupy automatically set the "Show this window on all desktops" flag for that newly added window. I'd be fine if this flag was only activated for the new window if all windows in the group have their flag already set.

Alternatively: Maybe have an option in the personalize tab sub menu, where I can set a flag like "Show this group on all virtuals desktops"

Does this make sense?

So since the release of groupy 2 ive been trying to strike that balance between convenience while keeping it looking stock.

I requested an option to hide the groupy2 icon/button that was in the left of the titlebar as that deviated from that and I found redundant.

Hats off, you guys put that in lickity(sp?) split!

Apparently I wasnt getting update notifications and on a whim i manually checked.  Went from initial beta release to the current general release all in one go.

Apparently the following was added to the new tab button and im wondering if theres an option to remove it so only the + is visible, akin to stock?   If not, consider this another feature request from me lol.  The right click context menu generally affords the same utility.

If you add a string value called "G2_OldNewTabMode" with a value of "1" to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Stardock\Groupy\Groupy.ini\Groupy and then change any setting in Groupy config to make it reload settings it may work as you want.

thanks neil, I'll give that a go.  any chance we can get that exposed for the user under the advanced settings as well in a future release?

this way I dont need to bother making a reg file to keep handy for the future that ill undoubtedly forget about lol.

EDIT: also maybe an option to toggle the bolding of the font too.  doesnt look the greatest on my display and again with the desire to keep it looking as close to barebones as i can :P

someone once told me giving options to/empowering the user is quintessential dev ethos or.. something.  (telling myself this to try and assuage that pain in the ass feeling im getting)

Are you releasing Shift before the mouse button (depress mouse button first)? I am not having this issue

The bold font is what the OS uses.

No the problem was I was using compiz style wobbly windows in WindowFX. Turning that off fixed shift+drag.

OT: Latest Insider from today left my laptop unusable ('Inaccessable boot device'), took the chance to do a fresh install of the reelase version after several failed tries to rescue (restore from backup would have caused the same problem). I AM CURED. ;-) Note: All thumbs up I seperate the system- from the data-partition since the stone age.

Data separate was a wise choice.  Out of interest which insider channel was that?

ah go figure.  must be a win11 thing.  i checked my win10 box with groupy 1 installed and it did not.  (didnt have the resources available to open a win11 VM at the time)

well then, a win for adding that, user malleable or otherwise :P

I would love to use this feature:

I am finding only one issue with it, though. I can't minimize the group from clicking on the taskbar icon, only from the minimize button at the top.

What should be taken into consideration is that I have my Windows 11 taskbar set to use the old/classic one (with labels showing) so maybe that could be part of the problem. Can't tell.

Winver: Windows 11 22H2 22621.1702, Using latest Groupy 2.0 release

EDIT: oh yeah, as a bonus I wanted a bit of clarification on the options related to the "Ctrl+N" shortcut... in a thread I made before Groupy 2 even started beta testing I mentioned the possibility of using an app's own "create new window" functionality (USUALLY mapped to Ctrl+N, but not always) instead of creating a new instance of the .exe - I can't tell if that's the case now, and what is the effect of enabling the Ctrl+N shortcut option in Groupy 2 now. So in short:

• What does "Use Ctrl+N to open a new tab (when possible)" do? Does it override an application's own Ctrl+N shortcut, does it create another instance of the application?

• Similarly, is that not also what "Make the add new tab button left side try to open a new copy of the application you are working in on all windows"

Just a bit confused so It'd be nice to have some clarification :)
