Fences 4.10.06 Release Feedback Thread

With the Fences 4.10.06 release, we are creating this thread so that users can report any observed issues.  

Obtaining the product

Object Desktop members can get the release from within Object Desktop Manager

Reporting an issue

Please include the following for anything found:

  • Exact Windows version \ build (winver.exe)

  • Detailed steps to recreate the issue seen

  • Screenshots and videos are very helpful.  Videos can be uploaded to a cloud drive service (GoogleDrive, DropBox, OneDrive, YouTube), with a shared link included in your post.  Images can be copied and pasted directly into a post.

  • If there are specific apps that the app does not work (well) with, please note what apps and their exact versions.  If any app is not common, a link to a trial version would be appreciated.

Fences 4.10.06 Changelog (Released 03/09/2023)

4.10.06 (03/3/2023)

  • Version updated to 4.10.06 (File version 4.1.0.6)

  • Fix for folder portal deleted files not going away

  • Fixed "WinKey+[key]" Fences hotkey could get stuck, after logging out from an admin app using WinKey+L and logging back in immediately. (Did not occur if not in admin app or if waited more than 60 seconds before logging back in)

  • Meaningful improvements to config-app startup time. (Down from avg 5-7 sec to 1.5-3)

  • Logging of app startup time to C# debug log

4.10.02 (02/21/2023)

  • Fixes Win10 desktop right click menu issues from prior beta build

  • Fixes "When German language is used, settings UI does not remember it's position"

  • Update version to 4.10.02 (will prompt in ODM now if ‘Show Betas’ is enabled)

  • Fixed issue where folder portals with extra long paths could fail to load

  • Improved debug logging for multi-monitor layout issues

  • Fixed issue where "Show Fences on top" hotkey could stick

Known issues

While we appreciate all feedback, please remember that we offer no official support for beta \ preview \ developer channel versions of Windows. If you report issues while in any of those early release channels, you should not expect them to be addressed unless it still exists in a retail version of Windows.

  • For very few (2 from the beta), there is an inability to open the Fences UI after installation. We are still looking into that.  For any that do see this issue, please state as much in a post in this thread.

    Update: We believe we have found the cause of the issue.  Please install this build and report if it resolves it for you:

  • For anyone that has issues with Fences not appearing on the correct monitor post-reboot,  please click here.

Right-click [Configure Desktop Partition] to open Fences.

Similarly, clicking on Fences' icon does not open Fences.

Fences cannot be opened by right-clicking on [Configure Desktop Partition] on the desktop.

Likewise, clicking on the Fences icon does not open Fences.

Hi

Another problem from my destop:

 

My mouse display shortcut view without to be in folder "test"...

 

Last point for me is:

I have black screen in parameter view (windows 11)

Normaly, this is the view of desktop.

Sorry to hear you are having issues. Please include full Windows version number please. Use Winver. For example: "Windows 10 22H2 (OS Build 19045.XXXX)". Also, check and make sure this: https://forums.stardock.com/486084/fences-support-faq#FencesStartUP. Check that, reboot, retest and report back.

Exact same issue as before, with configuration not opening in Windows 11. It opens in Windows 10 fine.

Interestingly, Fences configuration DOES load when I click on Stardock/Fences in the Start11 (Windows 10 style) menu. In fact, it loads rather zippily.

It just doesn't load in the contextual sense I was accustomed to (Right-click on Desktop/View/Configure Fences). I sincerely apologize if I didn't make this clear before.

I have the same problem after the new Fences update, no matter what I do I can't call the configuration dialog. I'm on Windows 11 22H2 22621.1344.

Can you test the other methods as well?  If you are trying via right-click on the desktop can you also try from the desktop icon (if there is one) and from the Start Menu?

Thanks for the reply, I did that now but sadly no method of opening Fences has any effect on my system. In fact there isn't even a fences.exe in my Task Manager anymore even though Fences itself still works.

Same problem here, first configuration starts, but not localized and crashing if clicking top option ("home")  After setting it from german to english in about section it didn't start again. Troubleshooting log said:

Same question, without backing up settings i won't uninstall it, doing a new setup may be somewhat annoying thing....

Or would settings stay even if uninstalled?
