Installed the latest ver 1.4.0.2 and with the enhanced taskbar turned on the start menu is slow to open for several seconds and the new search feature on the taskbar is delayed also. When I turn off the enhanced taskbar the above features work as they should.   Win 11 pro 22H2  Build 22621.1344  I am also running WBlinds 11.

Same, system tray is now absurdly slow.

You can't change the Taskbar to pure black since the latest Windows update, even version 1.4 doesn't fix this.

Also right clicking on the start button while in 'centered' mode results in the sub menu being aligned far left instead of on the start button.

I uninstalled v1.39, rebooted, installed v1.40, rebooted, both issues still broken.

Small taskbar works fine in 1.4 beta after install KB5022913, cosmetic bug is start button icon doesn't shrink with small taskbar

As thats a Microsoft button it will not shrink.

If you use a custom start button it will do.

Sorry, what's and where's that "enhanced taskbar" (turned on) which is mentioned here? Thanks.

On another hand I'm pleased to report that this last beta release everything it's ok. I.e after KB5022913 update issue. Thank you!

I don't believe issue 2 is new.  The experimental centred mode has always had that menu on the left when you right click.  This is one of the reasons that is labelled as experimental.

We shall look into the black taskbar issue as it should be allowing black unless the OS has been changed to actively block that colour.

Quick update on this, the next build should allow black as long as you have blur disabled.  The act of blurring alters the colour slightly and so true black would be impossible.

Great to hear, thanks for the update! Yeah blur is always off.

I'm on Windows 11 Enterprise, and have never had an issue before the latest Windows update.

I installed the KB5022913 on 1.39.1. There were no system tray icons or clock visible. Also there was a light line across the top of the taskbar, and where the search icon is (even when removed!).

Went back via a disk image to before KB5022913 was installed.

I then installed the beta 1.4 279 and then installed KB5022913. The problems I had (described above) returned, so it seems to me that the 1.4 beta does not solve the problems with this Windows 11 update.

I have now returned via a disk image to before KB5022913 and using 1.39.1.

I installed the latest ver 1.4.0.2, then KB5022913 and all my problems (detailed above) were gone.

Thank you for your efforts with this.

And how do I get the beta version when I bought the app from Steam?

And why is the Steam version still 1.36 when the normal version seems to be 1.39 or 1.40 beta?

@Neil Banfield

In the previous version of the program 1.39, the Start button icon has been reduced in the event of a change to a small taskbar :)

Same here with me on Windows 11 22H2 22621.1344 with Start11 1.4.0.2 installed. Disabling the enhanced taskbar and everything is fine again.

Did the Moment 2 update with some trepidation. The systray disappeared. Uninstalled Start11 1.39.1 and installed the beta. Engaged the enhanced taskbar and *poof* the systray reappeared. Great work Neil and SD devs. 5*

Just now I updated my win 11 and start 11 1.39 didn't work. After I installed the beta everything went back to normal but now the system tray icons seems wider than before, I guess that is because of the windows update. Also there is between 1 to 2 sec lag on system tray icons before I can click them. For example if I put the mouse over any tray icon and press it there is delay...

Your OS has changed due to the optional patch you installed.

Unfortunately thats the new min size for the default start button in that OS.  Nothing to do with Start11 changes.

Sean, does this (1.4.0.3) supercede the beta?

Sean, does this (1.4.0.3) supercede the beta?

It is also a beta just a newer one.

Upgrading is recommended.

Something I noticed today, that I'm honestly not sure whether it was a problem in previous versions, is that drag-and-drop to the taskbar is problematic with Start11 and auto-hide taskbar enabled, because the taskbar doesn't pop up. Currently running Windows 11 22621.1344, and Start11 beta version 1.4.0.3.

Steps to reproduce:

  • Enable Start11 enhanced taskbar. Disable Windows autohide taskbar. The taskbar is visible, so I can drag-drop files to apps in the taskbar.
  • Enable Windows autohide taskbar. Disable Start11 enhanced taskbar. The taskbar pops up, so I can drag-drop files to apps in the taskbar.
  • Enable both Windows autohide taskbar and Start11 enhanced taskbar. The taskbar doesn't pop up when dragging files down. So you only have the option to pin to taskbar, and cannot drop the files.

Not a major issue, but definitely something I've first noticed in testing this beta. Otherwise, it works swimmingly to fix all my previous issues with the latest windows update.

Seems like the slowdown in the system tray is gone now.

Looks good here, too. Thanks guys. 👍

  • "Forces autohide taskbars to medium bar size as the new Windows 11 taskbar only supports that"

Is that a forever thing?  Will we be able to do Large and Hidden in the future?
