Quoting JCurie,

Disable HDR under display settings.

turning off hdr doesnt fix anything for me

Disabling hdr will indeed fix the issue with the background of windows turning black.  Personally I would recommend against enabling hdr anyway unless you have a proper hdr display as in one with a significant number of backlight zones as otherwise it gains you nothing of value.

Unfortunately the Windows HDR support is conflicting with a workaround for a different OS bug in Windows 11.  We will look into the possibility of a different workaround on hdr displays but it may come with some performance impacts.

To obtain the full look of a Windowblinds skin you need to purchase Start 10 and Windowblinds 10 if you use Windows 10, and Start 11 and Windowblinds 11 if you use Windows 11. This is due to Microsoft changing things.

Just to correct this.

Windowblinds 11 and Start11 both work on Windows 10 too.

There is no need or reason to use Start10 and WB10 on Windows 10, both of those are end of life products as newer versions now exist (well WB11 is in beta)

Other than with centred start menus, WB11 should be skinning the start button (NOT THE MENU) on Windows11 without start11.  Note this applies to a stock aka unmessed with version of Windows.  If you have applied some sort of hack to change the taskbar to a more Windows10 style one then it may not.

====================> bug report

I want to report 3 bugS, reprodusable to mysetup:

1) from time to time, the icons on the system tray of the skinned taskbar will vanish (only the icons. time/date, language and sound default         icons are still present) when I hoover my mouse over the empty area the icons redraw.....

2) opening the snip&cut windows tool, while windowblinds 11 settings are open, freezes the hell out of the system. Only way out is

   to hard reset or control-alt-delete and choose sign-out.

3) windows file browser have huge black areas after skinned (the title bar is indeed skinned) but with so much black is unusable....

these 3 bugs are 100% reprodusable in my setup. I don't really know if this is some incompatibility issue with some app I have installed

but they seem legit enough to report.

=====================> feature request

And one feature that I want you to implement:

1) Please give us the option to NOT have the taskbar skinned. we already have the option to choose the skin of the taskbar separate

     from the skin of the system BUT for some reason the default skin option is not there together with the skins we have installed...

     this would helo a lot and in my mind it seems an easy to implement feature

Thank you dear stardock for your great work....

=======================> my setup configuration

windows 11 22h2, localised greek, fully updated. gpu nvidia gtx 3050 latest drivers, cpu i5-11500K, asus motherboard, sata iii samsung 870 evo 512gb system ssd, 16gb ram , monitor 2k resolution with 150% magnification, NO HDR, windowsblinds latest beta (cannt post settings

because when i open the snip&cut tool with windowsblinds loaded my pc freezes...), malwarebyte premium protection,

CURSORFX latest loaded, and tool modernflyouts from microsoft store ver 0.9.30(latest) loaded

================

John Alexiou

Can you provide a screenshot of explorer showing this black please.

sorry, I have tried that several times and turning off HDR does NOT stop the background of windows turning black..

using win 11 21H2

I am a full blown object desktop customer, if that matters

Can you post a screen shot perhaps that might help Stardock diagnose your issue does it look like the Pic i posted? I'm using a nvidia gtx 970 card are you using ATI, Intel, built in graphics?

Reply #82 Top

Neil,, sorry i have no screenshot , it is very difficult to reproduce, it happenned between changing skins i remember (i don't remeber which skins) but it definetely happened and i have HDR OFF all the time... this probably means that the black glitch appears with certain skins...

"As far as I can tell" the WBConfig / Modify Skin / StartMenu "Force blur effect" tickbox doesn't seem to be applying blur to the Start Menu. I tried several skins including Corporate and Echo, toggling and applying a few times on each.

Also, that tickbox seems to keep its checked or unchecked state as you switch between skins, instead of saving the state with each skin. That behavior is a little inconsistent but rather frequent, see if you see it.

Thanks.

I'm not seeing blur in the Start Menu with Diamond either, and it's made with blur.

Had flickering and visible tearing on chrome (even though it was ignoring chrome) when using this so I'll be giving it a miss for now. Also seems to causemy mouse to lag, maybe it was just playing havock with my gfx driver?

I'm not being offered this new beta through Object Desktop Manager or through WB's own updater. I am a returning subscriber and have checked the Show beta downloads box in the settings. I am getting beta downloads for other apps e.g. WindowFX. Just wanted to make this known to those who need to know.

Reply #87 Top

Mine is in my downloads under view individual downloads.

When I load the windows 11 settings app the titlebar isn't skinned unless I minimize the window and then bring it up on the screen. I download skins via the windblind app and it says apply but the skin doesn't appear nor is it listed under the skins section and last but not least  when I double click a wba it won't install the theme nothing happens. uninstall/reinstall wb11? oh and I almost forgot revo uninstaller goes bats**t crazy unless added to the ignore list. oh one other thing how do I reinstall it? It keeps hanging at wbload2.dll I realize it's beta so no hard feelings? Gotta love C:\Windows\System32\sdclt.exe /BLBBACKUPWIZARD when testing betas:D

Thanks chaps but the more I read this thread the more I'm starting to think there's a reason this version is still in beta! I'll hold off on this one for a while yet and keep my eye on things here instead. Would love to contribute to testing too but can't afford to start breaking my setup right now.

TError in fitting the screen

There seems to be error in fitting info in windows blind 11. As you can see, there is not windows resize buttons in the upper right corner. But if you resize the window by stretching it from corner using mouse. The icons reappear.

After adjusting the size

And this is how it looks after resizing, so there seems to be a bug that opening windows, that it does not fit the windows right way, until you manually resize the window.

never happens here so I'm guessing it's the skin, I was wondering if anyone has issues with the skin if you sigh out and back in 2 or 3 times

Hello, I have a strange behavior with Winrar (6.11 DE version) when I use a skin in WB11 on my Win11 22H2 (22621.521) PC.

Namely when I try to unzip a file either via drag and drop or with the unzip dialog, Winrar hangs to the extent that I can no longer navigate the folder structure in Winrar and I can no longer close the Winrar window. It is only possible to move or minimize the window. I can only kill the process via Task Manager. As a workaround I switched to 7-zip, there the behavior does not happen.

A friend of mine has the same OS (22621.x) + Winrar 6.11 DE and does not have the problem with Winrar.

Furthermore, I have another phenomenon with the Task Manager if I kill a process, I can no longer close the Task Manager itself :D.

Besides that, the Task Manager reacts much slower when switching tabs or sorting columns when a theme is active.

Reply #97 Top

Yeap the winrar thing happened to me as well

Reply #98 Top

I have the same issue with Winrar too. Excluding Winrar from skinning in the "Per application" list solves the problem. My task manager seem to work as intended.

In response to others reporting this, I too see the disappearing SysTray icons constantly. I will just live with it for now. Every single skin (downloaded and built-in ones). Hovering over them makes them all come back for a while. I've found no consistent behavior that causes it. It just happens from time to time. It's hard to screencap as soon as you do something sometimes, they just poof back into existence.

Windows 11 (22H2 OS Build 22621.521) (Happened on the previous two builds as well.)
