Start11 1.25 Changlog

  • New - Wheel mouse over page switch area causes it to switch to another page. Also does it on page if no scrollbars there.
  • New - Show path on search results via tooltip (files / docs)
  • Added support for the forthcoming WindowBlinds 11
  • Fixed an issue where pin attempts from searches would fail
  • Fixed issue with $$$USERMENU$$$ error prompt - Win10 menu
  • Fix for X Mouse causing start menu to lose focus sometimes. Note this does not fix the native Windows 11 menu which experiences a very similar issue when the mouse is near the menu but not over it...
  • Fixed if pages not named then no shortcut text for folders showing in Win11 mode
  • Fixed issues with mouse clicks when over page bar as this causes problems with editing titles of groups
  • Adjusted icon spacing when in small taskbar mode
  • Tweak to for shutdown option installing updates correctly
  • Fixed issue with reboot always installing updates
  • Fixed issue with explorerpatcher running on Win11 dev builds causing a taskbar paint issue
  • Fixed issue with explorerpatcher installed but set to run Win11 taskbar (unsure why you would be doing this)
  • Fixed issue with running apps in dark mode when in always combine mode did not indicate they had mouseover / focus well at all - alpha is too light on border
  • Fixed issue with up arrow when opening Win10 menu not always moving from Shutdown button to bottom of quick access links list
  • Fixed issue with taskbar on top and tooltips overlapping taskbar when in autohide mode when not using Start11 taskbar feature

Known issues

While we appreciate all feedback, please remember that we offer no official support for beta \ preview \ developer channel versions of Windows. If you report issues while in any of those early release channels, you should not expect them to be addressed unless it still exists in a retail version of Windows.

Right click menu for sound and network shows up on the right monitor now if you have dual screens and taskbar at the top, (YAY!) But I can't click on open volume mixer or sound and network settings at all.

When one icon in the lower right corner of the taskbar flashes, other icons and TIME&DATE will also refresh and flash every 2 seconds?...very annoying

Hello,

Yesterday I reinstalled Windows 11 and then Start 11 1.25.

Before reinstalling Windows I couldn't pin any universal app to the Start 11 menu, but the icons were fine. After installing, all universal app icons are small.

Like in v1.24, I've run into a couple minor issues in v1.25 when doing a search in the Start11 Windows 10 style or Windows 11 style start menu. These don't occur with the regular start menu (Start11's start menu turned off).
Here is a video that demonstrates both issues below in the Start11 Windows 10 style start menu on Windows 11.

1) On my Windows 11 laptop only, after clicking the Start button, and typing the characters of my search, the cursor doesn't catch up with the end of the text I'm typing. It lags further and further behind.

2) On both Win 10 and Win 11, searching for components of the Windows Security app doesn't find them. Try searching for "Reputation-based protection" or "Exploit protection". You can search on "security" to find the whole Windows Security app, though.

OS Build info:
1) Windows 11 Home
22H2 Build 22621.232

2) Windows 10 Home 21H2 Build 19044.1862

Issue:

The app icon disappears on every UWP app, when you open these app on the extended toolbar or from the start menu. When closing the app again, the icon reappears (see video).

The problem is only with UWP apps, with regular Win32/64 apps everything is ok and the icons remain in place even in the open state.

I suspect you can turn that flashing off with a setting, yes?  If you do, does the systray flashing stop as well?

If not, and you just close the app so it's not in the systray, does it then stop?

Issue:

If you don't use an individual Start button, the Start menu doesn't open every 5-10 click and gets stuck. If you then click again, it suddenly closes, although it was not visible at all, or nothing happens.

So the menu seams to be opened, but you don't see it.

The problem does not exist if you open the menu with the Windows key or use an individual Start button.

Hi Rainman,

I am unable to reproduce the issue on my end, but I want to confirm that I am using the same settings. When you say "extended toolbar" you are talking about having the taskbar button set to "Never"? Also do you have more than one monitor?

Yes, the problem occurs only when I do NOT select "always". I have set to "never" in my video.

Also do you have more than one monitor?

Yes, I have 2 monitors, but the 2nd one is just a headless HDMI adapter.

I use the current Windows 11 Preview Release Version 10.0.22621.290 (22H2) and the language German.

Zitat Rainman74,

Es ist also nicht die allgemeine Freigabe dann, richtig?

Yes, it is the version that will come officially in 2 months.

We tried this on the current release and the insider build, both worked fine.

If you have Win11 pro, and you enable Windows Sandbox:

https://www.thewindowsclub.com/windows-sandbox

Install Start11 1.25 on it, does it still happen?

Note: You have a single activation for your Start11 license so doing this will prompt you to deactivate.  Go ahead and do so as you can reactivate on your main once the test is complete, forcing a deactivation of this test Sandbox.

In Sandbox it works!

UPDATE: I found the problem! As soon as "Actual Window Guard" starts, the icon disappears! If I quit "Actual Window Guard", the icon comes back!

UPDATE II: I was able to solve it by disabling the "default settings". Nothing was activated there, but AWG then seems to change something in general anyway.

Installed Start11 1.25 yesterday.  My taskbar icons (aligned left as normal) are now squished really close together.  They didn't used to be.

Using Windows 11 Pro Build 22000.795.

I'd send a screen shot but I can't find how to add it to this post.

Any assistance appreciated (including how to revert to the previous version of Start 11).

Quoting sdRohan,

This problem is also due to Actual Window Guard. Is there a way to make the default Win11 button also on the same way as the other Start11 buttons. Because in the individual Start Menu Button it goes correctly and the menu opens on every click. But there is missing the correct Win11 button and appearance as well as border.

Issue:

I use different Brave Browser profiles and the icon is supposed to show the avatar of each profiles, but sometimes Start11 will do this:

Details:

  • Windows 11 version 21H2 build 22000.795
  • Start11 1.25
  • The issue appears at the taskbar when opening a different Brave Browser profile, as shown previously.
  • The issue disappears when I change the Taskbar size at Start11 configuration and restart Explorer, but returns when I close Brave Browser profile and open it again.

Info: I use these profile images also with MS Edge and there it works without problems.

I am glad you were able to solve this. I'll keep a note about it for others that might come across the same issue
