cant update Start 11 to latest version

Hi, I have tried updating Start 11 to it's latest version from within Object Desktop but I get the error code 103.

I have also tried the update from within Start 11 via it's about menu but it just hangs after the download and then I have to cancel it.

Has anyone seen this?

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. What version of Windows you on. Please post a full version numbers. You can use Winver.exe to get those.

Thanks

I got exactly the same thing (103 error from Object Desktop client, and stuck installer via Start11 directly), and when I click on the downloaded binary directly it comes up that the exe is incomplete or corrupted.

I am on latest and greatest Windows 10 pro with all Microsoft updates applied so Version 10.0.19044 Build 19044, Windows 10 Pro on Dell XPS 15 and 64bit.

Trying to install Start11 v1.22 production (I currently have 1.22 beta if that makes any difference) and the downloaded file size is 42,114,729 bytes according to the exe properties).  I have tried downloading multiple times, with same outcome and filesize - I only use Windows Defender as AV (latest patches).

Error

Check the file it downloaded to see if its saying that its corrupt like me, and you may want to think about blanking out your email from images (especially your MS account linked to windows) for security reasons.

Hello,

What you did? Download direct from your account page and error 103 came up?

Thank you,

I am also having this problem on two different machines running Windows 11 with recently purchased licenses for Start11. The current build seems unstable, sometimes requiring I log out and log back in for the taskbar to load properly and even then features that are turned off like resizing decide to activate on their own. Despite a fast connection the download is extremely slow, appears to show a larger download than the application states and just hangs without ever installing.

What is worse is that I also cannot directly download and manually install the updates. When logged into my account at Stardock.com I get an error page on Order History and when clicking on My Downloads.

My guess is that there was a problem in today's update. Hopefully it gets resolved tomorrow

I downloaded a file Start11_Setup_sd.exe (showing as v1.22) from the store Object Desktop individual downloads section, which installed just fine, just the one downloaded from Object Desktop App or from Start11 itself had issues (but that had the name Start11_1.22_production.exe).

So this solved it for me.  So it looks like just that one installer is corrupt.

Object Desktop… I can’t seem to find it in my download page.

Do you have ObjectDesktop listed on your download page? Or do you have ObjectDesktop under different email account?

Thank you,

This! My Start11 is set to auto update, so presumably it's going to the correct download source and getting the correct package to update to 1.22.  It stops at this exact same point. Downloads "40.20 MB of 40.16 MB," rather implausibly, and then just sits there. Twice now. Not gonna stress since it's not a big deal for me but yeah it's happening.

Since I'm here, another question. Object desktop and its components update fairly often, and all the old versions accumulate to occupy a fair bit of drive space after a while. Any reason why I shouldn't delete them, leaving just the latest versions? I don't now recall what folders they occupy. Is there an easy way to find and delete them? I guess I'm asking what default folders it installs updates to. And suggesting an option (perhaps a default option) whereby apps would delete their old versions upon updating.

Thanks very much.

Hey thanks tonydean for your reply #10. I'll follow your lead if I just can't bear to wait for a working updater.

Update:  I was able to find the app in my download products page...  manually downloaded and it installed without issue.

Thank you.

FYI - this issue still occurs.  I discovered today that I'm actually 2 releases behind -- apparently the auto-updating has been failing for a while now and I only discoverd the download stalling mentioned above after clicking the "Check now..." button.  I was able to download from my account area though.

I was actually just having this issue myself, in your downloads folder, delete the Stardock folder. Going forward, ODM should pull the correct update.

Thanks for the Reply.  I didn't/don't have a Stardock folder in my Downloads folder.  But I wonder if there's a similar thing going on in the ProgramData folder or something.

Unfortunately, I already updated manually, so I cannot check until the next update to see if I have the same issue.  Will circle back next time if it happens again.
