Sins multiplayer heavy lag

Hi there,

just wanted to report rather unpleasant levels of lag and stuttering, while playing Sins multiplayer today with my friend over ICO. The issue seems to be not strictly multiplayer related though.

This was for the first time i played the multi after quite some time, maybe five years or so. I used to play it with 2 other guys, not just one, playing bigger maps, playing more AIs and while it used to get somewhat laggy near the end of the games, i dont recall to be ever this bad.

Today, we just played small map, 13 planets, against single AI, latest version, no mods. Everything started fine, but after a while, maybe 10 minutes or even less, it started to get laggy for me (was the host) and my cursor started blink (vanish as i moved it) and move in very stutter-y manner.

At first i thought it may be cause we played with Skype call in the background, so i tried turn that off. No change. I closed Opera i had opened in the background. Nothing. I turned off Steam Overlay. Did not help either. So i tried to change the setting from Borderless to Fullscreen.

This crashed the game, forcing Minidump error. Might look into that as well. Anyway, i started the game again, and it was still stuttering, with cursor on and off even in fecking menu!

It only got fixed after i rebooted my computer. So we restarted the game from autosave, it was nice and fluid again. For maybe 5 or 10 minutes. Then it broke once again and we played it till the end, till we beaten the AI, but it was horrible experience.

Just now, i tried to run the game again, just on my own, and its still f-ed up, even on menu, or if i start single player game. I tried to run a mod, i was using before (theRemastered one with better graphics), and that doesnt affect it, still bad. Last time i ran the game, with that mod, maybe a year ago? - it ran flawlessly.

So its either something you have done with one of your latest updates, or something wrong with my computer. Which otherwise works mostly fine. Can play latest Call of Duty just fine, played AoE II DE today just fine, played AoE4 beta 3 weeks ago no issue...

You would want to try without any MODs at all for any tests - is that what you were doing at any point?

Hello, thanks for your response.

Yup, my entire gameplay session was without any mods. I only mentioned it, because last time i ran Sins, i dont know, about year ago, i used the Remastered mod, and it did run without any issues. And after the session, i re-enabled it, out of curiosity, whether it will it stutter with it as well, and surely did. Bottom line, its clearly not mod related.

I intend to give the game a go again at some point soon enough to see, whether it will persist. God knows, maybe it was just random, one-off thing, not holding my breath though. If it happens again, i will try to update Nvidia drivers, currently running 462.59 version...and see what happens.

Absolutely the same story.

Not so long ago I bought a game on STEAM, and have already played 120 hours.

Everything was amazing. But at some point, problems began, identical to the author of the post. It became impossible to play. Maybe the latest patch is to blame for this.

I solved the problem with a performance drawdown.

The mouse cursor was to blame. When the system cursor was turned on, the lags were gone, and the FPS returned to normal. Maybe someone will help.
