Dear Friends. I need some help. I want to upgrade a business computer from windows 7 to windows 10. The current version of windows 7 is not a store bought edition. (got off ebay) I'm pretty sure I can re boot to original factory setting. I know I can transfer info from laptop to hard drive so as to not loose anything. What I don't know is if I can move all records, including saved files, from QuickBooks. (I have saved the backup QB file as .QWB but I still can't open it and can't seem to import it to Excel either). Before I do this I must be certain I don't loose the QB files. any suggestions?

Back everything up you don't want to lose to an external HD. When you upgrade to 10 you have and option to reformat your HD or keep all your files. If you keep all your files Windows will make a folder called windows.old on your C drive incase you want to go back. In that windows.old folder will be all the files you currently have on your computer like pictures folder, documents, music and videos. You would have to choose " Keep Your Files" option. Or reformat in which you would have to re-install all your programs and lose all your files.

If your Windows key is good you shouldn't have to do anything. It will automatically activate. If it doesn't try your key again. I bought a windows key off of SDKey for $12 and strangely enough I have an Windows 8 laptop that I'm using and I used that key to activate another desktop computer.

thanks AlMonty..I'm saving this reply..in fact this is what I want to do. My only concern is if my complete QuickBooks file moves over with everything else...too precious to loose. Had a conversation with QB cust serv, should be ok...should...fingers crossed.
