SoaSE: R doesn't launch anymore, after

Hello everyone, :)

I got the game on steam. I played only three hours, not making a big game, and now, the game doesn't launch anymore. (I did play a few years ago on a less powerfull PC than now)

When I lauch it, from Steam, or the desktop, I get the stardock launcher, then several error messages (with the dev .exe; with the regular .exe, it just tells me that it doesn't work and create a .dmp)

Those error messages are:

- Assert @ d:\dev\projects\perforce\ec2\sins1\dlc4\codesource\engine\file\filesystem.cpp(408)

!FAILED(hr)

- Assert @ d:\dev\projects\perforce\ec2\sins1\dlc4\codesource\engine\file\filesystem.cpp(438)

br == TRUE

- Failed to Open File: '翸ೠ\My Games\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion\Setting\rebellion.user.dev.setting'

After some research on internet, I tried:

using the dev.exe

putting windowed: TRUE in setting file

uninstall / reinstall (many times)

installing in a different folder

exe as an administrator

change resolution from 1920/1080 to 1600/900 in the settings file

I now have a large collection of Sin Dump .dmp files, and start running out of idea. I want to play this great game again, so if anyone has an idea or a solution, it would be great.

Thank you :)

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

It is important that you try everything relevant here:

https://forums.stardock.net/486601/sins-of-a-solar-empire-rebellion-support-faq

Another thing to try is to turn off 'Windows Control Folder Access"

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4046851/windows-10-allow-blocked-app-windows-security

As your issues sounds a lot like this one:

Hello,

Thanks for your fast answer. I'll start to test all the solutions in the first link in a few hours and will tell you if it works.

(I'm on Windows 8.1, but thanks for the other links aswell !)

So I tried everything relevant, and nothing worked.
There's a thing I couldn't try, the "missing settings" section:

%userprofile%\Documents\My Games\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion\Setting dosen't exist in my computer, as the game doesn't launch at all.
If I create this folder, and extract the zip file given in your forum, all I can find inside are diplomacy settings file and not SoaSE Rebellion files. Is this  a mistake or are the files compatible ?

What was all that you tried?  Did you try controlled folder access as that directly relates to apps not being able to write to certain locations?

In order, I tried:

- clean install of my graphic driver (NVidia)

- I don't have any save game, so I couldn't convert the data for 1.86

- I couldn't re-install redistribuable Files, as I do not have any _CommonRedist folder in my game folder

- the Sins_remove_bin.bat says "the Rebellion license file was not found"

- there is NO \Ironclad Games folder in my %userprofile%\Documents\My Games\; when I create the folder, and extract what the zip given on your forum into it, I find:  achievementd.achievements, diplomacy.camera.setting; diplomacy.uimappings.setting, and diplomacy.user.setting. Is it normal as I (try to) play Rebellion ?

- delete %userprofile%\Documents\My Games\Ironclad Games can't work as I don't have this folder

- mods: I don't use any mods

- reverting current patch: I tried three other betas, none made the game work

- I tried to launch the strdocklauncher, the Rebellion.exe, and the RebellionDev.exe as an administrator (even Steams runs as administrator), didn't work

- couldn't put the C:\Users\{USERNAME}\Documents\My Games\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion\Setting in VideoIsWindowed TRUE cause I do not have this folder. (I tried with the Diplomacy setting files when I unzipped them, didn't work)

- Running the Dev.exe don't work, sometimes it even says "couldn't launch steam" or something like that.

- I tried desabling my antivirus (not McAfee), didn't work

- I tried "the Purge" several times, didn't work

Thanks for your help !

This is important to do...  Look here for them:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Steamworks Shared\_CommonRedist

Or whatever drive you have Steam installed on.

My bad I was following C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion\_CommonRedist as indicated on your site, but it was in Steamworks Shared just like you said !

Okay when I open DirectX\Jun2010 and launch DXSETUP.exe, I have those error messages:

- Assert @ d:\dev\projects\perforce\ec2\sins1\dlc4\codesource\engine\file\filesystem.cpp(408)

!FAILED(hr)

- Assert @ d:\dev\projects\perforce\ec2\sins1\dlc4\codesource\engine\file\filesystem.cpp(438)

br == TRUE

- Failed to Open File: 'ޗ\My Games\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion\Setting\rebellion.user.dev.setting'

This one pops three times.
But DirectX does setup.

Visual 2005 and 2010 doesn't had any trouble reparing the soft.

After all this + a reboot, the problem is still here tho :/

Well that is a problem then...

About the last thing I can recommend try creating a new Windows Administrator (<--important) account and trying under it.
