More view options for fenced icons, eg. list view.

Improved touch screen support. eg improved scrolling

Please don't forget to allow use of alternative File Managers for navigation in folder portals.

Example: when is XYplorer set as default file manager, when I try to go to subfolder in folder portal it always displays XYplorer window instead moving into subfolder in folder portal.
This is very important feature - I think many of us are not satisfied with Windows Explorer.

Just downloaded the Alpha - new software always makes my computer feel fresh.

Please could you add the ability to set parent folder settings, such as view in portals, with the windows then applying them universally to the subfolders. I've used the Windows options settings to try and adjust this but it never seems to apply to Fences. Hoping for this update in F4 <3

Thanks - :cylon:

  1. +1 to apply View to all folders/subfolders in a Folder Portal (like this post).
  2. On roll-out, have a click outside of the fence cause the roll-up rather than just leaving the fence.

I have been using my fences as "menus" of apps and of my programming repos, with the portal feature.  Sometimes my fence rolls up when I'm not ready for it to just because I strayed a little too far off of the fence.

I just downloaded the beta 1 version and can see this has been a busy thread and I apologize if I am requesting something that has already been asked for.

I do like the roll up feature of fences, however, to make the workflow easier it would be nice if the rollout tab could be smaller. About the size of a tab in a taskbar, but still allow the fence to be larger and take up as much of the screen as desired.

This way I could have several tab rollouts laid across the top or bottom of the screen straight across. But when the tab opens it could take up the whole screen if I needed it to, or I could move the mouse to the next tab sitting right next to it and open that one instead.

This would help my work flow as it is easier to go across then it is from top to bottom.

So far, a good product.

Free upgrade from Fences 3 to 4  instead of a really small ammount of discount. Sad :( and I am feeling that I might leave. Increase the speed of Fences. It happened that after having a bunch of icons Fences became unusable/really slow. At times fences are covering my icons on desktop. Fix this. Android style app folders with name under fences. Tabbed fences with app cattegories. Round edges.

I've just installed the trial version of Fences 4.  The first thing I tried was to place an icon anywhere within the Fence.  It moved itself back to the others!  Where is v4 different to v3?  I will not be upgrading!

I would appreciate it if you built in this color selector

for the "background style and color" in Fences instead of this color selector:

Or you let the users choose which color picker they want to use.

Then you could match the color exactly with the color of start 11. That would be great!

Realtime Translucent Fence backgound pls, it will support who is using "Wallpaper Engine" like me

and more customable for Fences backgound (ex: more or less rounded corners or blur strong), and Roll up animations

This please the Rounded corners in Windows 11 do not match the OS corner rounds.

This OS Corner round has pretty defined rounded corner.

This is the fence rounded corner not as defined. It like it chopped off 3 pixels.

In addition, if z-order is an issue can we get an icon added to the status area of the taskbar that has a choice to manifest fences as fixed border (with title) explorer like windows set to focus and rolled out. Bind this to a key so it can be toggled with mouse or key.  Think show desktop without hiding the windows.

Love your work,

Gary

If you check out the already-released Alpha of Fences 4 you'll find the z-order issue has been overcome...;)

Not sure if this has already been requested or mentioned, but using the new beta here, and it'd be great to have "Precision Touchpad" scrolling within the fences again. I made this request last time for Fences 3 and you all nailed it before!

As an added bonus, I'm still going to request touchpad two/three-finger swipe on the desktop to change desktop pages. ;)

As others have said, better support for multiple monitors(i.e. Fences pages move/change independently on different monitors), and same for virtual desktops. It would also be nice if two issues that I have had for years now, across numerous computers and multiple versions of Windows, and multiple versions of Fences.

1. I routinely get a situation where new desktop icons(which are automatically sorted into a default Fence) can not be dragged into another Fence. There refuse to go and are essentially locked where they are. I have to drag and drop them onto the actual desktop(meaning outside of the Fences system) and only THEN can they then be grabbed again and dragged into a Fence.

2. On nearly every reboot of the computer, all of my Fences will resize themselves so they are all overlapping eachother and the icons are half hidden, and they're just generally all screwed. I either have to restore the most recent snapshot, or otherwise manually resize everything, and it's absolutely infuriating.

Persist folder explorer views when navigating within the Fence. i.e. If Fence set to 'Details' view and double click a folder, the folder then opens in 'Large Icon' view.

I apologize if these have already been mentioned, but not about to read 21 pages of ideas to see!

  • Add a "pin open" icon for roll-up fences. This would allow you to keep it open for a short period without needing to keep the pointer over the fence.
  • Add a "return to top" button or option for folder fences. Sometimes I navigate many levels deep. I have to re-navigate back to the top in order to restore the fence to where I want to leave it after working on a lower level.
  • Add a folder format section to global settings so all folders have that same setup. Currently it defaults to icons, which I can't stand. I have to change it to details. But it makes me do this for every level I navigate to!
  • Have an autosize option. I would like to keep the rolled-up fences small. But when I expand them, I want them to expand in the x-direction to fit all the information for a details folder setup without needing to have the roll-up icon that wide.

I have 2 suggestions, a fences option for vertical Alignment and a fences option to temporarily redirect downloaded files to another location. I work on a lot of projects and manually creating redirects for files is kinda tedious. If I had a "timed fence" option  or icon where I could click a timer and then move downloaded files to a specified location temporarily that would save me a ton of time for the organization on specific projects

I'd have to agree with the above comment. Verticaly aligned fences are something I've wanted for along time now. I want to dock it to the side of my desktop and have it scroll out sidways to view the fence, would love to see this implemented.

Over the last year, Fences went from sort of interesting to "can't live without it" for me.

I'm an independent business owner and I have many hats.  I use Fences to organize a desktop for everything I'm doing.

  • basic email
  • product development
  • video production
  • photo editing

I have two features that I really, really want.  I want these because "alt-left" and "alt-right" or using the mouse to swipe through many Desktop Pages is painful.  I currently have 11 Desktop Pages.  Switching could involve 10 swipes or "alt-left/right"s.

1. Ability to tie a hot-key to a Desktop Page.

I use "Win-Tab" to move across Windows 10 virtual desktops all the time.  I'd prefer a similar ability to change Fences Desktop pages.

There are two possibilities.

1.a Use a similar UI to windows 10 "Win-Tab".

1.b  Allow a Fences Desktop page to be tied to a specific hotkey.  Like Win-1 corresponds to "basic editing".

Both would be great.  I think a Win-Tab would be easier to learn and remember.  I think the direct hot key link would be faster for the kind of work I do.

2.  Ability to tie or lock a Desktop Page to a Win-10 Virtual Desktop.  Or an option for the Fences Desktop page to be "per" Virtual Desktop.

This would let me switch Desktop Pages and Virtual Desktops in the same key stroke.  In many ways, this is better than option #1.

Anyways.  Even if I don't get these, Fences is in my top 5 tools on Windows.  Love it.

Where to find a straight comparison between Fences 3 and Fences 4 ?

Thank you.

Is there a way to have this??

Thanks

This may well have already been suggested but I would like Fences to scroll from the side of the screen and not just from the top or bottom.

Along with the return of precision touchpad scrolling, it would be good to have additional padding within the fences between the edge and file, or at least an option to define how much internal padding there is (i.e. widened, standard, compact, etc.). Thanks!

I would love to see in fence portal roll up navigation - have the name of the fence align on the left or the right.  When navigating within a fence portal, the name of each nested folder is different so the arrow navigation moves.  It would be really handy if the name (or the navigation arrow) was on one side or the other so to back out of a few nested folders just click click click instead of having to move the mouse each time because the name is a different size moving the arrow.

And will we be REQUIRED, with CONSTANT NAGS, to upgrade from 3 to 4 for whatever these "benefits" are? 3 works ok with Win 11, btw, so what's my motivation?
