I want Fences to honor the folder icon when it is configured in the desktop.ini file.
Fences do that already.

Static Navigation / Level-up button

The button that allows to navigate to the parent of the currently displayed folder in a Folder Portal element should be positioned statically. Otherwise, quick navigation of several levels up is not possible.

Please make an  align (and autosized en width) )option if you have more rollup fences among each other.

or create a Grid / Snap  option.

align problem

I don't know if this would be technically feasible but I'd really like to be able to view (and, if possible, restore/empty) the contents of my Recycle Bin from a fence. Basically, a Folder Portal but for the Recycle Bin.

Howdy devs,

Is it possible to have a fence stay centered on the screen such that when it is stretched horizontally to increase the column count, both sides stretch instead of just one side. Also, double-clicking to hide or show a fence which is two columns wide often results in opening the text edit box instead. Perhaps you could add an option to disable double click to rename a fence? Btw I have used Object Desktop for years and I am extremely satisfied with the current state of the product.

Thanks,

Trent

I would love Fences to offer an optional alternate UI with a normal-sized icon (customisable) for the "group" as an alternate to the collapsed title bar, with the group configurable as opening either as a popup (similar to many Android and other UIs) or opening/closing in a specific location on the screen (as with the roll-up to title bar style behaviour).

Okay, I just moved to Wiindows 11 (somebody had to do it!). One of the big missing pieces is that MS removed the Quick Launch capability.

I downloaded Fences and it's pretty awesome! And it's 90% of the way to providing a quick launch functionality.

What would I need? The ability to add "Pin to Taskbar" for any fences. Once click to bring a fenced window up and one click to hide it.

So, as you  think about a new version for Win11, please consider this capability!

I would like the ability to arrange items within a "fence" and have the arrangement "stick." That is the way I arrange my desktop now, and I would like to extend that capability to Fences, so that I could group icons in my favored order and then open and close (hide / reveal) the fenced areas as needed so as to free up more monitor area.

Gets my vote

You can actually already do this.

----------------------------------------

1. Open the PowerShell or Command Prompt and enter the following command:

wmic useraccount get name,sid

Copy your user account's SID

---

2. Now go to your desktop. Right click on your desktop and select New > Shortcut.

Copy and paste the following as the location of the item:

\$Recycle.Bin\S-1-5-21-5511247973-2207094687-3903398543-1001

Replace the SID above with whatever your user account's SID is that you saved earlier.

---

3. Now just drag your new icon anywhere on your desktop WHILE PRESSING ALT. Doing this will automatically create a new folder portal with the shortcut's target location. You will now have folder portal of your recycle bin.

You must do it as instructed above or it will not work. Copy and pasting the Recycle Bin path directly in "Create Folder Portal Here" dialog will NOT work. Using the native Windows Recycle Bin icon will NOT work. You MUST create a custom Recycle Bin shortcut as outlined above, and MUST use Alt + Drag on it to create the Folder Portal.

----------------------------------------

You can make a shortcut to automatically empty your recycle bin as well.

1. Just create a PowerShell file called "Empty Recycle Bin.ps1" on your desktop (the name can be whatever you want so long as it has a .ps1 extension), and just add the following line to it:

Clear-RecycleBin -Force

It will automatically empty your recycle bin when you run it.

No problemo. I've only had the opportunity to test it on Windows 11 but I'm pretty confident the process of implementing it will be 100% identical on Windows 10. I'm not sure what you're running, but if you run into any issues and are on Windows 10, just let me know and I'll try it on one of my other workstations that still runs Windows 10. Cheers!

I would love to have a way to sync across multiple PCs.  I'd like to have the same fences sync, but also the rules that apply to them.  I found a way to sync the snapshots that was easy.  I used mklink /j backups C:\myonedrive\stardock\fences\backups   In order to do that you need to delete the backups directory in %appdata%\roamimng\startdock\fences folder If I could somehow have the rules also sync that would be really nice, because not every machine will have the same applications installed, but I would like to have the same fences and use the rule to populate them.

Second the above reply about syncing settings across PCs.

Also, as an Enterprise, we'd love to see you standardize on MSI installers and flags for installation, such as disabling auto-update (since most enterprise users aren't allowed Admin access).

still no winding of the windows

from left to right or from right to left,

with the name of the "fence" written vertically?

in short to be able to have "fences" placed on the sides of the screen

I do not even think of buying it if it is not offered

allow a different color when the fence is hovered over by the cursor ? (color font text fence name ?)

when we remove the cursor, be able to configure a delay of a few seconds before the fence is reduced, that it is not necessarily instantaneous

me ? i wish instead of making us buy more software you update the already current release to fix several years bugs instead. having to pay over and over for the same software is GREEDY

It's actually NOT 'the same software' in the exact-same-way as it is NOT the same OS.

Programs SPECIFIC to an OS must change when the OS changes.

Fences is not a simple process like running Paintshop Pro 6 on Windows 10 - when it was designed for back in XP days...;)

yea ? that dont explain WHY the same issues are still in the V3 when they have been reported for over 3 years ago.. my point still stands

Are you still running the same OS you were 3 years ago?

I am...and Fences 3 is running here without issue.
