How do you fix this so it is playable?

When i first started to play the game it crashed a lot then came good for a few hours then went back to crashing a lot .

After that i lost all control { could not move or access inventory } now it just crashes as soon as i leave earth starbase.

70% of the crashes were in lander 25% when talking to someone And 5% when switching screens.

I tried looking at the SC:O Support FAQ Forum and looked at the Page file Setting . And on the bit that talks about the Virtual memory i noticed where it shows Recommended / Currently Allocated numbers my rec number is larger than allocated number . I have no idea how to change it or if it makes any difference .

Any help will be welcome

Can you post your machine specs and graphics settings you are using? Other file to check is the runlog.txt located under 'My Games\Star Control'.

The game isnt really working with nvidia gpu's, from gtx680 up to gtx1080. There is another thread about it, but no dev answer since 8 days ago.

You also ned to know the difference between crash and freeze with a following crash. Can you still hear sounds and are the controls still working? Or do you instant get kicked back to desktop?

I have a GTX 970 with no such issues.  My girlfriend has a GTX  with no such issues.  Maybe it's not really your GPUs (or you need to update your drivers)?

Ok the asking about virtual memory, or paging file is press the Microsoft key. The four square button on the keyboard. Go to settings. Then advanced settings. On top go to advanced. Press the first settings. Go to advanced. Go to change. Change it to custom size. I wouldn't do less than the minimum, and recommended, or currently allocated size below it. You could do more as long as the hard drive has the space.

I also have a GTX 970 and have had minor crashing issues. I think the latest build + latest nvidia drivers largely minimized them. I think I had to kill the game twice in a long play session. Wasn't too bad, was very annoying. Typically happened when I was transitioning from one thing to another (i.e. finishing a battle, landing on a planet, talking to someone, etc).

This the StarCon bug with NVIDIA GPUs, theres a log thread on it.  Basically you can look in the error log to confirm if you have the Swap Chain errors.

Heres the thread and here's what the error looks like.

https://forums.starcontrol.com/491165/page/1/#replies

Nitrous Error: Swap Chain Present Failure:
(887a0005) The GPU device instance has been suspended. Use GetDeviceRemovedReason to determine the appropriate action.
Device Removed Reason: Device Hung: (887a0006) The GPU will not respond to more commands, most likely because of an invalid command passed by the calling application.
(616 duplicates)

Hope its not impacting you too but if so, might want to +1 that thread and keep an eye out there for updates.
