Remove officers to continue mission

I'll try to keep this as spoiler free. I've got a mission to go talk with a particular race. However, said alien refuses to talk with me because it doesn't like the race of one of the officers I've got on board my capital ship. I've been unable to find any way of removing the officer to continue my mission. I suspect if I get more than 5 (or perhaps more than one in a certain category), I can swap them out, but is there any other way to do this?

It shouldn't do that. It happens because of ships you'd have in your fleet.

You were correct. I'd assumed it was due to the officer, but once I removed the ships from my fleet, it was good. Thanks!
