Sins perpetually loads on startup

Alright, so yesterday I reinstalled Sins after a mod failed to completely uninstall after disabling and revalidating.

After reinstall, the menu screen successfully loads, but as soon as I click 'Play' the Sins.exe loads and immediately freezes, causing me to be stuck at loading and forced to end it using Task Manager (via the keyboard only because the cursor becomes frozen).

I have tried completely 'purging' Sins from my computer, but Stardock's instructions for a purge are a bit outdated for the Steam version so I can't be sure that I got everything (There is no ProgramData folder, much less a License file). The two places I know Sins files exist are in my steamapps folder and My Games in Documents.

On an important note -- the dev .exe works just fine. It dumps this file when I run it, and I've only bumped into this error when loading a tutorial mission (Sins is in my D drive but there is no D:\SinsRebellion?)

But I'm completely lost right now. I feel like my computer is cursed to never run Sins again, even though I theoretically wiped all traces of it from my computer before theoretically starting anew.

Any ideas where to go from here?

Hi, I just encountered exactly the same problem. I even re-installed Rebellion and tried every possible fix from the Rebellion trouble-shooting e-support-site over at Stardock (updated Graphics Drivers, re-installed all Common-Redist ran PermFixer and so on right to the bottom of the list).

I then noticed that Rebellion will start normally when I run it in windowed mode (by manually changing the settings-file). However, since there doesn't seem to be a borderless window-mode, that is not really an alternative for me.

Has anybody found the cause for this problem?

My specs:

ASUS ROG Notebook

GeForce GTX 1070 with 8Gig VRam

32GB RAM

i7-7th Gen CPU

I too am having this issue.  I used to NEVER have problems with Sins but since this new load process (that I didn't ask for or want) it now is very buggy.

That does seem to be a decent jerry-rig fix. For those of you who don't know where to look, open the drop down next to "PLAY", edit the settings file, find "VideoIsWindowed" and set that to TRUE.

As of the newest update 1.93 (inclusive the Minor Factions DLC) I no longer encounter this problem. At least for me, the new secondary (Stardock) start-up screen has gone and SOSE starts directly and in full-screen now.

Additionally it finally runs steady as a rock and doesn't crash during auto-saves as it would frequently before.

No idea what changed, but I am not complaining and I pray that I won't get another forced Steam update for the rest of my life.  ;)  :)
