Fleet Battle: Obstacles

Environmental hazards in battle.

To expand upon the ideas on wreckage being in fleet battles which can be found here...
https://forums.starcontrol.com/487617/page/1/#3706486

I propose the following items being added as well.  -- All to be configurable and/or random occurrences within a battle.

  • Planetary defenses that attack anything within range, for example an outer ring being the max distance for an Earth Missile, and an inner ring for point defense lasers.
  • Black holes with various ship components in the accretion disk, some active others not, active parts will attack indiscriminately.
  • Wormhole destruction causing an instant ship destruction... if an opposing enemy detonates a weapon within X of the other ship entering the wormhole, instead of exiting safely the ship would be destroyed and debris would litter the exit point
  • Wormhole ejections:  Asteroids, Comets, rogue missiles, debris, pirates, etc
  • Hostile fleets hiding in the Asteroid belts:  Pirates / Slavers / Alien vessels not found in either fleet / random player ship(s) approved by Stardock's design team
  • Gravity well explosion(s): If the planet/moon/etc takes too many hits it could fracture and/or explode expelling debris in all directions at different speeds and max distances

The ultimate goal would be to be able to add difficulty and unknown variables to Fleet Battle matches

Are you proposing these be considered for Fleet Battles PvP or as adventure game elements?

Wormhole destruction causing an instant ship destruction...

Vary this one slightly and it could be thrown in now as a standard battle element.

  1. Ship enters wormhole through point A to exit at B.
  2. Opponent fires weapon into B which then travels through the wormhole to exit at A.
  3. The weapon would collide with the ship in transit, tearing it out of the wormhole conduit and inflicting massive damage.

Honestly I could see it working out in both Adventure & Fleet Battle at various points in time with different configurations.

In Fleet battles aka 1v1 slugfest it could be configured by a tournament holder, or in 1v1 against a local AI have it make the battle arena harder with the harder level of AI opponent that you select.

In adventure mode...

Pirates would be FAR more common outside of spheres of influence than within spheres of influence

Protected planets would be far less common outside of spheres of influence than within spheres of influence

Debris would be more common in areas where battles have taken place and/or in areas where spheres of influence overlap among two or more hostile alien races.
