Purchased Beta Can't Get Game

I purchased the beta and set it up on Steam, but can't get the game.  How do I get it set up?

Just checking where you've got up to:

  1. Used Steam Key to register Star Control Beta in Steam
  2. Steam downloaded game files
  3. Started game, presented with Launch splash screen
  4. Click play, game starts

At which point does it fail? Are you presented with an error?

I used the steam key to register Star Control Beta in Steam and is listed in my game library but I cannot download the files.  I get no install option.  It is listed as purchased.

When you run it, it should open the launcher.

I don't suppose either of you could post a screenshot of what you see?

There is nothing to run or launch.  That is part of the problem.  It shows up in my game library, but if I right click on it, there is no run option (unlike all the other games in my library).

There should be two entries for Origins in your Steam library. Have you tried running the Beta version?

Make sure to restart Steam. Otherwise, please post a screenshot of what you are seeing in Steam.

Have you already done this?

  1. Right click "Star Control - Origins"
  2. Click Properties
  3. Click Beta tab
  4. Enter the beta access code, click "Check Code" button right next to text field
  5. Restart Steam
  6. Repeat steps 1 to 3
  7. Select "closedbeta" from drop down menu
  8. Beta should begin downloading

Your steam library should look like this afterwards:

I see what it was now.  There are two, like someone said above.  I didn't realize (or see anywhere) that there would be two.

Thanks for the help.  Installing now.

After hitting INSTALL on the splash screen....It asks me to enter a code and press "Check Code"....then use the drop down list to choose closed beta.

What drop down box?

EDIT: Nevermind. I am dumb. I had to choose closedbeta in the drop down in steam before entering the code. I also had to restart steam for the drop down to work.

Don't feel bad.  After years of developing on Steam, I *still* enter beta codes, hit "enter"( instead of the "check code" box)  and then start yelling about why a particular branch isn't available in the dropdown :)
