Fleet Battles Battle Report Function

I just played my first ranked match and found it incredibly fun. Near the end of the match though, I had killed quite a few of my opponent's ships but wasn't sure if he had any left. After I had destroyed one of his Plinth's, the game sort of just hung there as my ship flew around crashing into asteroids without a new ship appearing. Then it said Victory and my opponent had timed out. Is that the normal victory screen or is that because my opponent left the game? I'm not sure as I had destroyed quite a number of his ships and thought he should be getting close to the end of his fleet.

Also, that awkward scenario got me thinking, and forgive me if this already exists and I just missed it due to my opponent's disconnect, but it would be really cool if there was a victory screen with a report of what ships I destroyed, which ships destroyed them, how much "crew damage" each ship in my fleet had done, etc.

And if there was a way to follow those metrics in ranked play, like total crew damage of each of my ships, what's the crew damage per match each ship averages over my ranked play history, what's the average length of time each of my matches are with each ship, etc. As well as a more transparent understanding of the ranking system would be fantastic.

Also, later over time, maybe there can be different leagues set up, like a fleet battles league that only allows small, maneuverable ships, so it's like an aerial dogfighter league. And a fleet battles league that only allows capital ships etc. I think that would make for some really fun stuff as well.

Lastly, the planet gravity still seems to be working really oddly. Not sure why it feels off. I can't gravity whip around planets very well and when I get sucked into the planet then spit out at a 90 degree angle bounce it feels quite unintuitive. Maybe I'm just not used to it, but it seems to operate very differently from the planet gravity of Star Control 2.

Those are a lot of really great ideas.

I'd add that there should also be a lineup of silhouettes of ships showing the both your own and the enemy ship lineups.  Maybe they are miniature of what is in the thumbnails, changing to black silhouettes as you use them.  There is plenty of unused room for this in the purple side bar where the ship displays are.

Ship point cost really needs to be on the thumbnails on the ship selection screen, too.

Some terrific ideas here.  Some comments:

  1. We definitely want to start tying a lot of stats to the player.  We are recording some things but we aren't using them yet.  For example, what your best ship is, what ship you win against the most (as a %) and so on.
  2. Would love us to add rankings to who is the best at what ship in the game.
  3. Total damage done and an end summary screen is definitely something we should be doing.
  4. Gravity is...hard.  Well, not really. Gravity is easy. FUN gravity is hard.  We are continuing to mess with it.

Gravity is the greatest mystery of the universe that we know of;-)

Glad to hear my ideas were of some help. I'm really looking forward to how the super melee progresses. I have a feeling it's going to be extremely addictive!

And yeah, on the gravity thing, it seems like a really difficult aspect to get just right. Too little and it's meaningless, too much of an effect and it's like a black hole sucking the ship in. I'd imagine it's a very complex mechanism to program for and calibrate.
