Past Worried?

I'm past being worried.

When I saw the 2D Melee Beta, with the full ship design thingy, my worrying ended.

I was worried that if I waited too long to buy a founders pack, I'd miss out on a good deal. But when I saw the info on the melee beta and the ship builder interface, and read that anyone still getting a founders pack had to still sign a NDA, I knew StarDock was determined to be 10000000% secretive, until the extreme end of development.

Simply, to be this secretive at this point in the game, implies something BIG, REALLY REALLY BIG is still in the works.

BIG as in good or bad, I do not know. I've never seen such secretive game development before. I can understand any legal issues with the people who still own the original Star Control characters that StarDock was not able to get ownership over, but I'm left with no positive or negative reinforcement to explain why there is such a secretive nature at this late date for Star Control; Which to my understanding has been in the works since 2013. That's a long time in the development world.

Well, again, I'm past my worrying. I simply have no reason to trust, or not to trust StarDock at this time.

Put another way, I can't invest any emotions into StarDock's efforts, good or bad at this time. And until I see this BIG thing, for whatever it is, to explain the delay and secretive nature, I'll only bebop back in say 6 months, or so, like May 2018, at this point. And even if the game is released before May 2018, I may need to wait a good 3 months before I consider even trying the game.

I'd wager a copper, many others feel the same way.

NDA for a game in development is not uncommon. Neither is a development time of 4 years or more.

The purpose of the NDA is stop people from spreading images of an unfinished game, because there are those who would treat them as if they are of the final product. Also to stop spoilers for the adventure mode's story.

It has already been explained that the delay was needed to make tools for ordinary players to create ships, aliens, planets, quests, maps, etc.

And just for clarification, Stardock has a license to use the aliens/lore of the Ur-Quan universe, they chose not to use them because Paul and Fred wanted to one day make a sequel to the Ur-Quan Masters.

Actually, when I saw this game, my first thought was:

"O.M.G!  Spore and No Man's Sky had a love child and they sent it to Paul and Fred to be raised as a Kung Fu Campaign Fu master!"

Needless to say, I immediately pre-ordered.  I would have been a Founder, except I didn't even know this existed until after the Founder program closed.  I'd wager that same copper that many feel the way I do.
